I am wondering what debt consolidation will do to my prospects of buying a house using a VA loan in the future. I have used it before but am now considering consolidation and wonder what it will do to my home buying ability.

I have read about some debt consolidation programs that DO NOT report to the credit bureaus, so obviously trying to obtain a loan wouldn't be affected if the other info that does appear in your credit reports isn't overly negative.
