When go with a settlement company, usually, your first few payments go directly to the company. After they've collected their fee, they begin filling your account. Once it's reached a suitable amount, they start making offers to your creditors. In the interim, your bills have become delinquent, and your credit tanks. I think this is advisable if only it is a way of not filing for bankruptcy.
If you've already signed the contract, I'd at least advise you to go over it again.

However, I have heard good things about Freedom debt relief. I suggest you to check the customer feedbacks with your state AG and the BBB and know about their business.
