I am in dire need of help. I have 9 payday loans, two at a storefront in my local town and the rest are off the internet. I took a bad situation and made it a lot worse and now I don't know how to get out of it. My husband is divorcing me and I do not have the means of caring all of these and now the threatning phone calls and emails are starting. How do I get these under control?

First off - What state are you in? How much did you borrow, from what companies, and how much have you paid back so far?

Once you post this info we can better help you. You will want to take care of the storefronts first, as are probably legal and can collect on the loans. Then you can concentrate on the internet loans.

Welcome to the forums. You have taken the first step in looking for help and this is a great place to start. Let us know the information that goudah asked you for and all of us will do our best to help. You will find a great amount of help and support here. I am sorry about your divorce. Many of us have been in the same situation with the pdl's and know what you are going through. Many of these internet loan places operate illegally and make illegal threats just to scare you.

Oh thank you so much, it is all actually kind of scary. I have set up payment arragements with the storefront one just in the last day. The ones on the internet are the ones I have no clue on. I live in Indiana and have one with GFSIL for 200 + fees, DMS for 300 +, PDay service for 200 +, Quick Cash 125 + , Northway 1,500 +, Interim cash 360 + and Payday select for 250 +. I really appreciate you taking time to help me and knowing I wasn't the only one that has fallen into this. On all of them until this last month I have been paying all the fees. I know on the DMS and GFSIL one all I have been paying are the fees and the original amount hasn't moved.

So in your state rollovers are not allowed. You must pay off the loan completly at the next payday. So these internet companies are breaking the laws.

The first thing you need to do is close your bank account that these places have access to. That will allow you to regain control over your finances and pay them off on your terms. When you close your bank account be sure to tell the bank whats going on. Some banks have policies that allow them to "force open" an account when ach transaction go through. So even if you think your account is closed the ipdl's may still hit you. Ask your bank what their policy is and make sure there are safeguards in place to stop any account reopening.

How much have you paid to each company in fees? Your state has very specific amounts that they can charge you for these loans. You've probably overpaid on them, but if you haven't only pay what you state laws say, not a penny more.

My checking account has been closed but I will definetly call and make sure nothing can still come thru! Thanks for that tip. I know I have overpaid the fees, but I don't have totals yet. A couple of the ones that I have tried to talk to will not let me set up any kind of payment arragement other than paying the total and that's what I can't do. Are there any type of sample letters I could use to send to these companies?

Sparks ~ don't give up hope! Figure out how much total you have paid the internet ones and let us know. You may have well over paid, which could work in your favor as far as getting them marked PIF. (if I have repeated something, sorry). The store front ones are the ones you definitly want to take care of first.

Other thing, if they are calling your house all the time, you might see about changing your phone number. That will at least eliminate some of the calls at home. If you gave them your cell number, just let them go to voice mail, if necessary. Do not let these internet PDL people scare you too much. You can only do what you can do. Hang in there...it will get better.

Payday Select will settle for the principle amount and fees that are legally allowed in your state. It will take emailing them once or twice. They will happily let you make an affordable payment arrangement if you still owe them money. They have been a pleasure to work with, honestly. I was able to do all of it through email. DMS is not easy to deal with. There are several of us that are still fighting them. GFSIL is a treat to deal with too-Leah will tell you all about them. Like 2nband said, don't give up hope. It will get better and you will be able to take back your life.

GFSIL-they will call you and threaten you with everything in the book, they will harass you at home and at work..they will leave embarassing voicemails...Its humiliating BUT...I recommend not answering their calls, correspond with them only via fax, email and regular mail. right off the bat, go ahead and file a complaint with the AG and the FTC...They give up after about 4-8 weeks!
