WFFNB – not the good guys when you have bad credit

A year ago, I had fairly good credit and paid all my bills before due, then I had several catastrophic incidents that completely used up all of my resources and savings and I got behind one month with a dept store card and wfnnb started calling me at home (5+ times a day) and at work (again 5+ times). When I tried to talk to WFNNB, they became verbally abusive. I cannot pay what they want and they won't work with me. Plus, my job is now at risk due to the consistant calls. Any suggestions? I am at a breaking point because I do not have what they want for a minimum payment and I am stressed with other issues at home as well.

Since this is the original creditor, the fdcpa will likely not apply. If you aren't exaggerating about the 5x/day at work, I'd file a complaint with your state's attorney general. It is possible that your state laws may provide you with some protection...California would be a decent example. You might have some luck sending a letter that restricts communications by them to letter form only. Mail it CMRRR. I say it might work because I do not know if your state has a law that actually will be of help.
