i rented an apartment 5 years ago.I left owing 100.00 as of right now this debt reports as active/current and has increased to 3000.00.Is that standard? is it allowed?how do i get rid of it? there is no way i can pay it

From your post it seems that you're asking about the statue of limitation (SOL) of the debt. But for that you have to tell us about the state you rented the apartment. If the debt has past it's SOL limit then you're not obliged to pay the rent anymore.
