AMEX after 90 to NCO, after 120 with NCI

Anyways NCO is a collection agency.Your creditors can sell you account as many times they want.There is no limit of age.If they are not getting back their amount for a long time ,then they sell the accounts to the 3rd party collections agency.

My American Express is well past 180 days. Since then it has gone to 3 different agencies. Right now it is with NCO. It is my understanding that American Express does not sell their debt but sends to outside agencies to collect on their behalf.

Correct. Amex does not sell the debt and even following a settlement it will still carry the balance on its books. They will report it as settled, however. Not sure about 1099, since they seem to carry it on the books forever.
