Hi, I am really considering debt mgmt vs debt counseling whats the difference and how do we find out if the company is legit? I live in California.

Both are the same thing. You pay the principal amount at lower interest rates and have most of the fees waived off. A plan is fixed according to your financial situation and you continue paying to the creditors.

debt reduction or debt elimination means debt settlement. This one is completely different from the above program. Here you leave your accounts go into default before a settlement company starts negotiating with the creditors. You deposit money in a new account opened with the settlement company. This will be used when the settlement deal is finalized with the creditor. A reputed company can get your whole debt reduced by 40% to 60%

most debt settlement companies don't work. what they do you could do for yourself and keep the money you would be sending them.... Ameridebt and Provanta seem to be among the worse....

the best one i've heard of is CCCS....

but using one will ruin your credit. you will be treated the same as if you filed a chapt 13 bankruptcy.
