What is the best debt consolidation loan? What are usual rates for less than perfect credit?

In order to get a consolidation loan you must use your house as collateral. I assume you are a home own , but be aware a lot of financial advisers don`t suggest that as a good option. It is almost never a good idea to turn unsecured debt into secured debt. Is there any particular reason you don`t want credit counseling ? With credit counseling you will have one payment like with a consolidation loan. Plus you will have you interest rates around 6-10 % which is similar to what you would pay in interest on a consolidation loan. Credit Counseling doesn`t hurt your score. Most importantly you don`t have to put your home up for collateral so if some hardship comes up you don`t lose your home.

I,too, would be cautious using your home, unless you are sure you can handle the payments, have job security, etc. Yu don't want to loose your home!

There are other ways to get out of debt, including Do it Yourself. Have you tried talking with your creditors? How much debt, and is it still with the original creditors?

Years ago, my husband got a loan to pay off bills, which we did. The problem was that we didn't change our ways of dealing with debt, and got into it again, and then owed the loan and more debt.

I wish I had gotten some type of counseling years ago, so I wouldn't have been in this position at the age I am!!

Good luck to you..karen

I would try working directly with your creditors. The housing market right now doesn't have a whole lot of programs available like they once did. Also your debt to income ratio has to be decent.

The bottom line is go straight to the creditors and try and work something out with them directly. Be very careful with who your working with and check with the BBB.
