I called the number for PRISM/CBSD and it turned out to be a Home Depot credit card.

I just found out that Prism/CBSD can be Sears or Radio Shack & possibly others. Mine was Sears & had been paid off since 2001 & was only reported paid
to 1 credit reporting agency. The Sears rep didn't think it was them. When she told me the amount of the credit limit, it was the same information that was on the credit report. She sent in a request for all of the credit reporting agencies to be notified that prism cbsd was paid & closed.

Hope this helps!

The same PRISM/CBSD has shown up on my credit report as opening in 8-2007. Account # 5256****. I have had my Home depot and Sears master card a lot longer than that. I do not have a radio shack account.

Prism/CBSD was on my credit report this a.m. and, after 2 hours of investigating I got to the bottom of it. The credit card numbers beginning with 525650(10 more numerals follow) belong to one of 4 companies, all are under the banner of Citibank. These companies are; West Marine, Goodyear, Gateway, and Herzberg (jewelers). If you didn't open an account with any of these companies, as I didn't, you can call 1.866.510.2761 and report the fraud (after verifying that they have an account in your name with your social security number). If you are uncomfortable calling this number and giving out your social, you can start by calling the Citibank fraud number listed on Citibank's web site (fyi, that number is 1.800.950.5114) and tell them the first six numbers of the partial credit card account number, and they will tell you which company issued the card and how to contact that company by phone. Good luck! It worked for me.

I had PRISM show up on my credit report. At the time I could not find a phone number to anyone that had record of the account number so I wrote them a letter to their addresses in MD & SD. I just received a letter back yesterday stating that the account had something to do with Goodyear. I had a GY card back in the late 90s and in June I called to close the account. The representative did everything he could to try and have me keep the account active. I told him that I did not want it open any longer and to please close it. It was closed but this new mystery account was opened at the same time. I feel that this operator opened a new account fraudulently under my name since I closed my active one. I certainly did not open another Goodyear card. I havent been in one in a GY store in several years. I will be calling the numbers listed in the post above to try and rectify the situation.

I too just received notice (via a credit monitoring service) that a credit card had been opened in my name. After many telephone calls and a lot of time, I finally ended-up talking to Citibank customer service at 1-866-510-2761 and inquired about PRISM/CBSD. I provided the 52565002... account number and was told by the customer service rep that Citibank had purchased Macy's inactive accounts and had issued Citibank credit cards to all of the Macy's card holders. The physical cards are/were supposed to be mailed out by the end of September.

The rep also said that he has received many calls on this same subject. (I can see why!) I expressed my relief that this was at least not an issue of fraud, but I also expressed my displeasure that Citybank had done this without my explicit approval.

It looks like Citibank must have purchased inactive credit card accounts from a number of different companies and issued their own cards to these unsuspecting people. It may not technically be fraud or a scam, but it sure is not an example of high ethical behavior. However, if it turns out that Citybank charges an annual fee for these new credit cards, it could in fact be fraud.

That's why PRISM/CBSD is in the credit report.

Got the same message from credit reporting agency - card was received in mail a few days later. Card was a MC from Citibank, confirming previous reply. I immediately called the "close account" number, NOT the confirm account number on the sticker on the card, which completes the opening of the account. The practice of opening accounts without prior approval or consent is unAmerican!! and despicable!! Shame on Citibank to damage my CR with PRISM/CBSD.

I also received an alert from my credit monotoring company after a new account was recently opened, and after reviewing my report and spending 4 hours on the phone, I also could not find a phone number for Citibank or Prism on the Web. I did call Citicards because I do in fact have a CC with Citi but they are located in a different area other than Hagerstown, MD which is the address that appeared on my report and of course no number listed. By calling the number I did have in Souix Falls, where I have an active account they did not show any new account. Only after coming to this page and reading the stories of others did I finally get this new account closed. I also called the number listed above 866-510-2761 and spoke to a rep who told me that anyone who had a Macy's inactive card were sent notice several months back to activate their Macy's card again and if there was no response CitiBanl/prism automatically issued a new card under CitiBank/Prism and mailed these out. The problem becomes they are using old information on file from years ago and if you have moved or your marital status has changed, but also because of Hurricane Katrina .. you will not receive anything in the mail, as I did not. Hope this helps it dd for me.

Appears to be a common theme. Reading the above/previous comments - generally people who have a credit monitoring service did receive notification of activity in their name. My initial concerns are tempered somewhat by the responses, though I too am disturbed by the apparent action of a Citibank affiliate without my authorization.

I received two alerts this week from my credit monitoring service stating that credit had been opened in my name. I have had to run two new credit reports to dipute the information. It has taken over five hours of my time just calling to find out what was going on. I thought my identity had been stolen. No finally says the rep. for Citibank, it turns out that they have purchased innactive Macy's accounts and decided to upgrade them (she said gleefully) to their Mastercard. This was all done with out my knowledge or consent. I was told that although not very nice perfectly legal. The rep. told me to call my U.S. Attorney Generals office. I did just that. I have lodged complaints with them and the Comprtollers office and the Federal Trade Com. all of which told me that what they are doing may be legal but it is wrong. I hope that everyone who has had this happen to them this week will contact those agencies and report them. I personally will not ever do business with Citibank,Prism or Macy's again.

I got three alerts from my Privacy Assist about a credit card opened with my information with the three companies shown in the subject. In my credit report these companies do not show any phone number.I called the three credit bureaus and place an alert for 90 days and submitted a dispute. I received my credit reports from Trans Union showing only one credit card opened with CCSMC Spectrum and a phone number. I called today and it happens that it's Citibank. The representative explained to me that Macy's transferred its cardholders to Citibank. I did not know about it. I cancelled the card and they will send me a letter confirming the cancellation.

I called the number that was previously posted and they ended up transferring me to the area that deals with cards of this nature. These cards belong to a retail branch of Citibank (radio shack, macy's, etc..) and you can contact them at 866-510-2761

I also received this e mail. i called the number above 1-866-510-2761 and was told my Macy's card was conveniently upgraded for me. I do not know why they do this. I don't even use that card. I am glad I have equifax to keep me aware of this stuff.

I also recieved notice via e-mail from my credit monitoring service that a credit card with Prism/CBSD had been opened in my name with the same numbers as the above message with a $9000 limit. I had no idea what that was. After 2 hours of research I finally found the customer service # 1-866-510-2761 and they told me the same thing, that they had opened an old account which I had with Robinson May and I never did have a Macy's card but Macy's gave the info to Citibank Master card and they opened it without my knowledge or consent. I think this is fradulant and I told them to close it immediately. I am very disgusted they they would waste our time and emotions with this.

I also recieved notice via e-mail from my credit monitoring service that a credit card with Prism/CBSD had been opened in my name no accoutn numbers were given. I had nto opened any new accounts and was very concerned so immediately put a Fraud alert on my credit report. After 2 hours of research I finally found the customer service # 1-866-510-2761 and they told me that Citbank was taking over a lot of old accounts from Home Depot, Radio Shack and Macy's. I have not had an account with either of them for well over 8 years. The rep told me that I should have recieved letter stating that I could "opt out" (which I never recieved)..pardon my language but what a "crock" I am at a different address than I was 8 years ago and I never recieved such a letter. On top of that, why would I open junk mail that I was not interested in. They opened this account without my knowledge or consent. I think this is fradulant but because I do not have the account number they told me I could not close the account without giving them my soc sec number. Now why would I want to give a company that works like this my soc sec number. I do not appreciate them putting things on my credit report that I did not authorize. AND I cannot even get a person to talk to at the Credit Reporting agency to have them remove this from my record. I am furious. I feel like sing CitiBank for undue stress and for my time. Putting an alert on my credit report protects me some, but also means that if I should want to obtain any new credit in the near future, I will have to "jump through hoops" to get it. My other concern is that there may be cards floating around out there that I never recieved. Also, does citibank charge an annual fee for these cards - if I am charged for anything I will take them to court - I do not care how big a company they are. This is wrong. I am very disgusted that they have wasted our time and emotions with this. I will be sending a letter to the Executives at Citibank and recommend that you do so also. below is the address and of course they only give us a PO box
PRISM Residential Communications, Citibank
PO Box 9058
Gray, Tennessee 37615

I am also going to report them to the Better Business Bureau. In these times of high identity theft, I am appalled that a large company like this would put us at risk. They are evil  and twisted  and I am mad :x and shocked  that they can get away with such behavior.

Had a NEW account appear on the credit reports. I think it may be from an old Bullocks/Macys account. The NEW account shows that I opened it 09/07,but my OLD Bullocks/Macys acoount was opened over 25 years ago. I was never told about this chage. I guess our credit scores don't mean much to the banks UNLESS they want to raise our rates.

It gets worse each day. Now I have three alerts from my credit bureau. They opened one 9/1 at citibank, which I called on and was told the same "Macy's" story. I cancelled that account, which had a number attached to the credit report. Then on 9/20 a PRISM/CBSD showed up. Can't get the number on it and won't give my SS number. Then today 9/29 there is a third one CCSMC SPECTRUM/CBSD. Once again, no number. Has anyone found a way to stop this. I am mad as hell to have to spend my time fixing this and do not like the vulnerability of such an infringement on my personal information. I can't believe it isn't illegal to do such a thing.

Prism/CBSD is a Citibank account. Citibank appearently purchase up closed accounts such as Macy's and Goodyear. Then they send you a letter that looks like a credit card offer (so most people wont open it) where they state unless you reply within a certain number of weeks and tell them that you don't want a Citibank account, they will send you a credit card and an account opened in your name.

They claim this to be legal. But it is not! Silence by customer is never acceptance. This is a fraudulent act by Citibank in order to try to increase business. They have no right to open a new account without your conscent.

Ccsmc Spectrum/Cbsb Credit Card, this may be Macy's too. Opened 9/07, no account number (not even the last four digits), no phone number, only PO Box 6003, Hagerstown, MD 21747, still trying to find information. Lowered my credit score also. UGH!

I have received 3 notices from the credit agency with the same cryptic info as you all. Thank you for posting the information you found. It has helped me tremendously. I called Citibank after the first one and got very little info. This should absolutely be illegal. I am phoning the attorney general's office tomorrow. Please continue to post info as it helps many people out there who have also been victimized by this.

Have found the problem. The CCSMC Spectrum/CBSD was an inactive Macy's card that was sold and upgraded with Citibank without my request! So to close the account you need to call 1-866-510-2761 and wait while the phone system kicks you to an actual person because if you are like me and got the information from TransUnion credit reporting you do not have the full account number. Then ask them to close the account. WOW! This should be illegal and I will be filing a complaint with the BBB against Macy's and Citibank.

Thanks to this site and your help, I called 866-510-2761 as above; Citibank card division. I would not give my SS#, but was able to give a phone number used when the acct was opened @ Macy's. The card is now cancelled and they are supposed to send a letter confirming. Thank you.

I too have gotten 3 different new accounts alerted on my credit report with one today on 10/3/07. I called Citi Credit Card division. And the rep. said she needed an account number which I don't have yet because I haven't gotten a card but, she said I would be getting one soon !!! I am so mad at the "smart" management at Citi Bank for dreaming up this money scheme. This is going to backfire in their smiling faces. I hope everyone jumps off the Citi Bank ship and leaves their services behind. There needs to be a class action lawsuit filed against them for criminal behavior. I am contacting our State Attorney General- he is like a dog at a root!!!

OMG - I am so glad I found this forum! My husband's identity was stolen 3 years ago and we are still battling the creditors and credit reporting agencies to fix it all. Just when we think we have it all cleaned up we get a report of three accounts being opened. Of course there is no phone number, you can't talk to anyone at the Credit bureaus to get that information, and I'm in complete freak out mode that the guy who has been messing up our credit is back! I have literally spent 16 hours ordering new reports, writing letters to the credit bureaus to put 7 year fraud alerts on our accounts, trying to find who the hell spectrum/cbsd, and prism is so I can let them know we didn't open the account. I'm glad to know it is crappy business practices - they suck! What total stress and a waste of my time

And I am one more who has received the same alert from my credit monitoring service on 9/29/07. The alert read as follows:

ALERT RECEIVED ON 09/29/2007

ACCOUNT: CCSMC SPECTRUM/CBSD
PO BOX 6003
HAGERSTOWN , MD 21747
ACCOUNT TYPE: REVOLVING ACCOUNT
ACCOUNT NUMBER: *******23545
INDUSTRY: CREDIT CARDS

I am grateful to all of you who have posted above about your experiences -- it has saved me hours of time and a lot of frustration! I will use the phone number that many of you have posted and get rid of this unwanted, unsolicited card. Fooey on Citibank!!!!!

Just called the number 1-866-510-2761 and closed the account. Yes, Macy's and Citibank are to blame. I had to give them my social to close it, I hope i don't regret that....but this is ridiculous! Where do they think they have the right to do this??? I wish i was a news anchor or newspaper reporter cuz i would put this out to the public immediately.Apparently you get three alerts because its reported from the three different agencies at different times. I hope it's over now!

My Experian Credit Monitoring showed a CITIBANK USA opened Sept 1 on 10/02 as reported on EQUIFAX, then on OCT 5 a CCMSC SPECTRU Account was reported on Transunion with no date opened. I did call CITIBANK and they denied any such account existed. No way to call on the second as google posted this website with a number of similar complaints. CITIBANK is corrupt and I will cancel any accout I have with them and never open another - the same goes for Macy's. Also, the credit bureaus are irresponsible and insen sitive to consumers by arbitrarily reporting such trash. Before anything is posted, the consumer shpould be contacted to verify the info. There should be federal laws controlling all of them.

thank you so much for posting the info. I got the same transunion alert and also couldn't figure out where it came from and was more than a bit worried. googled the name the of company and found this thread with the number for the company. You're right - it's Macy's inactive accounts sold to citi. I called and got it closed but will be joining with you in filing a complaint with the attorney general's office. for one thing, as I said to the citibank account rep, if the account is inactive, perhaps its because I don't want to use it and meant to close it. thanks for the contact info -it sure wasn't in the transunion report and it would have been really hard to find.

Same thing happened to me. The cancel my old account and supposedly sent a notice to an address in MT where I have not lived for over 2 year!!!! I spoke with Macys and Citibank and they were both incredibly rude and did not listen to anything I said. I saw my credit score drop 10 points overnight from this. I have canceled the account. Macys tried to blame me for not updating my information. Why would I need to update my info if I am not using the card currently?? I can't believe that they can do this. I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the FTC (FTC.gov)and encourage everyone to do the same. This is absurd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FYI the Citibank number is 866-510-2761 and the Macys phone number is 866-593-2543.

Citi Bank sent me a credit card I did not apply for. It has the same acct# as in the alert from Trans Union. I wasted at least three hours trying to determine who Spectrum is. I first thought of identity theft. Citi should not be issuing credit cards that are not applied for. If you did receive a card you can call 800-432-0282 to cancel.

Thank you all for saving me a bunch of time. As mentioned before, a practice like this should be illegal. I can't speak for anyone else, but the only reason I have the alert is that my personal information has been compromised (a stolen laptop from a state employee who should not have taken the laptop out of the office).

I wonder how may folks that don't get the credit alerts that we get will just get these new cards and start racking up credit balances with this unethical company.

Citibank should be ashamed, because if this is not an illegal practice, it certainly is unethical. My guess is that they will get their share of bad karma from this deceptive scheme.
