I received a call from MCM stating I owe a debt. I explain to MCM that I was paying that debt already to a different collection agency. MCM stated they bought the account from them. I then ask how come on my phone their number is shown as unknow? Why they haven't left me any voice mail? Why I haven't received any statement in the mail from them? Their respond was there calling from a computer line instead of land line. MCM said yes they haven't left me any voice mail. At first MCM wanted me to make a payment over the phone but after hearing me out. I did explained to them after I received my statement I will work with them to get my debt pay off. That i'm looking out for my self and making sure this is not some kind of fraud. I have received a statement from MCM. My question is all the information on my statement for example their phone number and address doesn't match what is on line. How do I know my statement is real?

I received calls from someone stating they worked for HSBC. Simply put i did not have accounts with HSBC. I have been debtfree for more than a year and have not had any debt recently. This past week i have been doing some research into this and it seems fake calls have been going around from someone claiming to work for HSBC.

I will suggest you to send them a debt validation letter and ask them to validate the debt. This will help you know whether or not they really own your account. If they can validate the debt, then you can pay them in order to get rid of the dues. If they cannot validate the debt, then you won't have to pay them anything.

Once they send you the debt validation letter, check whether the debt has been properly validated. Check out the following page to know what proper debt validation is all about:

Send a cease and desist letter via certified mail if they are not able to validate the debt.
