I got a summons to appear in court today 5/17/10, I am a little confused as to what the debt is in regards to, because I do not recall ever getting any letters informing me of what I have been accused of owing. Please respond within a resonable amount of time, considering I received the summons today, and I only have 23 days to reply. My phone number is 317-***-**** and my name is Christina Turner. My address is also 618 N. Livingston Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46222. Thank you.

Christina, it's not wise to give out your personal information on an open forum, especially since identity theft has become a common place issue.

Anyway, the summons should have the basic information that you need. It would list the plaintiff's name and its lawyer. You can call them up for information. You may also get the information from the court house. However, since you're sued you must file your response for the summons within the time period, otherwise the plaintiff would be granted a default judgement against you.

Along with file a 'motion for discovery', which works like debt validation but is legally binding. It would reveal details about the debt. You can check out the following link to prepare your answer for the summons.
