where's my stimulus check 2009? look up is now active on the IRS website. Hope this helps

Has anyone that is getting a check tried to use this? I just tried and it tells me my information is incorrect... I may not be putting in the right number of exemptions, I don't have my taxes with me, but I am pretty sure I entered it correctly :(

you will need to put in the exact amount of exemptions on the correct line, I did it wrong the first time (only put in 3 for my 3 kids) and then looked at my 1040A sheet and got the number correct, it will be on the line 6d...example : 1 for yourself, 1 for your spouse and 1 for each child claimed.

I started messing with it this morning around 7am cst and again just to check to make sure I wasn't crazy about a 1/2 hour ago and still the same info. I had noticed that one of the questions in the "freq questions" section stated that the IRS was working on a rebate info system like they have on line for checking your refund status, so I tried it. I think the answer to "Wheres My Stimulus Payment" is done.

deann - thanks for posting this most useful information "Wheres My Stimulus Payment"! Since information has been less than forthcoming (or very slow) from the IRS, this is a great help. There's a lot of confusion out there about the rebates and when they will arrive, now that the schedule has been moved up. I only know one person so far that has received theirs.

Ok...now I'm totally confused. I went to the "where's my rebate" link on irs.gov and entered all my info. Nothing. It said I may have made a mistake and asked me to check my info. I did - all correct. When I hit "continue", it told me they couldn't provide any info on my rebate payment.

I called the IRS, and all I got was an automated system that had me enter the same exact info, and I got the same exact answer - nada - nothing - zip.

So I still don't know when I'm getting it. I don't owe the IRS, I received my refund as I should have when I filed back in February...so now I'm confused.

LADYBUG...did you have any success when you tried again later?

lmale - go to irs.gov, click on Stimulus Payment Questions (top of the page), and then click on "where's my stimulus payment". I called it a 'rebate' in my post.

Just an update, I called the IRS after trying the "where's my stimulus payment" thingie again with no luck - they actually answered fairly quickly, and said that it's kind of touch and go right now, and that the system is not working for everyone. The person I spoke to said she tried it for her own purposes and it didn't work for her, either, but it has worked for others.

She did tell me to expect my payment by May 9. But she couldn't tell me anything about exactly when it would be received - only "by May 9".

A question, though - has anyone been told that if there are errors on their 2007 return (like in my case, where a dependent was claimed that shouldn't have been and was claimed by someone else as well - oops), that this situation might hold up their stimulus payment??

I've filed the amended return, but I'm sure they haven't gotten to the amended returns just yet - they're too busy with this whole stimulus payment thing. I'm really hoping to receive my payment next week like they said I would, but this little wrench they threw into the situation is making me nervous now.

Here's a useful little snippet of info that I bet a lot of us overlooked when using the "where's my stimulus payment" link....direct from the IRS website:
Welcome to Where's My Stimulus Payment?

Get the amount and date of your Economic Stimulus Payment now!

We recommend checking the Payment Schedule prior to using this application since your payment information will not be available on this tool until the time that your payment is scheduled.

Also, please see the Economic Stimulus Payment Information Center for in depth information about the Stimulus Payment such as eligibility qualifications and other frequently asked questions.
Ok....now we know why SO MANY OF US can't get our information from the "where's my stimulus payment" link!! Even the lady at the IRS didn't tell me this when I called!!

Apparently, (and I just realized this after looking at the IRS site again) the info won't be available until your payment is actually scheduled to be deposited or sent out. So if you go to that link and don't get any info, it's most likely because your payment isn't scheduled to go out yet!

So I guess mine isn't coming tomorrow..... :-(

"We recommend checking the Payment Schedule prior to using this application since your payment information will not be available on this tool until the time that your payment is scheduled."

Sorry I don't know how to quote..Anyway, that's real helpful isn't, if its in the bank account, we don't need to check with the IRS< GOODNESS.

Roadwarrior -

I'm still getting the same results - what's really funny, though, is that when I called the IRS the other night, even the IRS employee didn't tell me that the information wouldn't be available on the "where's my stimulus payment" link until it's scheduled to be deposited - so probably not until about a day before it's deposited.

So if the IRS employees aren't even aware of this little kink in the system (or are aware but aren't telling), why even bother having the link up there?

Interesting.....the IRS must have finally wised up and listened to the millions of people calling and complaining that they can't get status on the "where's my stimulus payment" link on their site...

If you go there now and your the info on your payment is not available, you get the following message:
We are sorry. Specific information about your Stimulus payment is not available.
Possible reasons include:

* Your payment may still be coming, but has not yet been scheduled. Information will be available here as payments are issued based on the last two digits of the primary SSN shown on your 2007 tax return. Specific information about your Stimulus Payment will not be available until about one week before your payment is scheduled to be issued. See the complete Payment Schedule below for more information.

* You did not file a tax return for 2007 or your return is still being processed. Additional information about filing requirements is available.

* The information entered did not match our records. Be sure to check the information you entered. You may Re-Enter your information as necessary.

Remember, to qualify for the Stimulus Payment, you must meet the eligibility requirements. Please allow 6 weeks after filing your tax return before checking on the status of your Stimulus Payment.

Ok...so now I have another question. Has anyone who is due to have their payment direct deposited sometime this week (say, by Friday) seen their info using the "where's my stimulus payment" link yet? I've tried today, and nothing. Got the same message as above. So if I'm supposed to get mine by Friday (according to the schedule), where's my info?

I think you're right, lmale. A friend of mine at work said her father actually got his last week, and his SS ends in 70!! According to the schedule, he shouldn't have gotten his until this week.

I guess I'm just worried because now it says the data will be available within a week prior to when the deposit is supposed to be made...but mine should be done on the 9th and no data is there yet.

Yes, someone did get their stimulus payment in their account early I think Wednesday or Thursday, they are the ones that started this thread. I know mine won't be here for awhile as I accidently filed two 1040(a's) because I didn't think the IRS website had received it...stupid me  ...I could have had my money by now.

I normally don't file a tax return because my disability is so little

My daughter's is being sent via a check even though she did direct deposit thru Turbo Tax. I have heard that those that utilized that program will get there money sent via check. Her last two digits were 00 and this was just made available this morning.

Thought I would advise just give to everyone else a heads up.

I could not get through to the IRS...however....

I went to Turbotax.com, the service I used to file my taxes (as did millions of other Americans). There is a questions & answers area there, where you can ask questions of the "community" on Turbotax, and both community members and TurboTax employees will respond to your questions.

What I found is that your info is correct, Goudah.

TurboTax says that if you went through their online service to file your federal/state returns, and had your fees for using their service deducted from your refund, using their bank, Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, (even if you had your refund direct deposited) you will not receive a rebate payment via direct deposit - it will be sent via check according to the schedule posted on the IRS website.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm TICKED. The IRS has not posted this info ANYWHERE on their website that I've seen. Has anyone else seen it there? There's a heck of a big difference between having the money direct deposited by May 9 and having a paper check sent by June 20.

It is not on their website anywhere . . . . I'd be pissed too, because most people would think that they would be getting direct deposit in those cases . . . . .

Also, I've read that those that will get their direct deposit payments early are those that filed early, used 1040ez, and have no dependants. Something about the system being able to process them faster. So if you don't meet those requirements, odds are you will probably get the direct deposit on the original date.
