How long do you have to wait for Stimulus Check payments?

I know alot of people have gotten their stimulus checks, however I have not yet and have heard 4 diffent stories from the IRS devils, and I am fuming.... I was talking with the clerk at the gas station I go to everyday and she hasn't gotten hers either. It is maddening...

gardnerj - I'm beginning to think that the last two of the SSN don't have much bearing on exactly when it will be mailed, as my dad's last 2 are 58, mine are 53, and he got his check already - even though it wasn't scheduled to be mailed until the 20th. (Of course, there's always that little issue with the mailed notices saying you'll RECEIVE it by the 20th, and the website saying it will be MAILED by the 20th...big difference in my opinion!)

Still no check as of today's mail.

Sue - It goes by the grouping of SS#'s. Then by how you filed.

So someone with a 58 could get theirs before you if they filed a different form then you and had no dependants.

The system the IRS is using makes it easier to calculate stimulus amounts for those with no dependants, so that is why he probably got his check earlier then you.

My last two are 83...and I have heard you usually receive your paper in the mail right after it is on the internet and then it usually comes earlier, here is hoping...have been waiting a long time for my money. I did the taxactonline and had fees deducted, so I am in the same spot as you Lukeskywalker. At least now there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I filed my taxes late, got my refund direct deposited on 6/27 which was the exact date that is said online, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear on the voicemail recording at the IRS phone number I called that my stimulous will be deposited on 7/4. Now whether or not it will shall remain to be seen, but it is only 2 days away and the original tax refund was exactly right so I am very hopeful! Of course the fact that the Fourth is a "bank holiday" might muddy the waters a bit ...

I am so jealous of you guys...everytime I look on the IRS website it tells me the same thing  I am so mad at myself for accidently filing two returns when the first one didn't me a confirmation number I refiled and the 2nd one gave me a confirmation number.

Still waiting for a irs rep to call me. Beginning to think that isn't going to happen in my lifetime.

I got mine on July 5th. It was great. I went to Wal Mart to try to cash it and those people did not have a clue, why did I ever bother with them.

I cashed it and paid off 3 bills, half of another and put about 5 bags of food in my frezzer, went out to lunch, bought a dvd, and still have some left over. Nice :!:

Luke just because you had trouble at Wal Mart prob. doesnt justify what you said.... On a forum like this you might be surprised with who works there and might take offense to your statement. You bothered with Wal-Mart because they advertised free stimulus check cashing and apparently you couldn't use your bank. I am sorry for your inconvenience, but not impressed with your broad generalization....

No I can use my bank but Wal Mart does offer free stimulus check cashing but on that day and the customer service person I had along with her manager, as I stated above, did not have a clue and they do represent Wal Mart so I was justified in saying what I did.

Just so you know, an attitude like yours is not needed and will not be tolerated here. You insulted me and I do not appreciate it. I think you should tell me your sorry.

If that would help you. After waiting in line the normal 15 mins. I stood infront of a CCR who would not stop talking about a bunch of nonsense to her co workers, her boyfriend is not my concern. After waiting there for 3 mins. I asked her, "Should I come back later after you finished"? She said no, Im sorry. I said I want to cash my stimulus payment here. She took it, ran it through the machine, and had me enter in my ssn. She did that and I did my thing at least 5 times. I said "Do you need some help with that"? Can you call your Manager"? She did and that person did not have a clue on how to run their machine. The line behind me was out the door. I do not need that or have to accept it at Wal Mart on anywhere. I also work with the public in Quality Control and that is not acceptable. If those machines do not work the Wal Mart staff should report it as such and not have the "customers" filter out their mess.

Am I clear now?

Your attitude is twice as offensive as mine, Luke. I simply said no need for broad generalizations. YOUR Wal Mart doesn't have a clue. And as for insults CLEARLY YOU insulted me, and I spoke up for myself. If someone standing up for themselves insults you Luke and won't be tolerated then the business of being a forum is lost. I joined this sight in 2006, I am not a newbie nor am I a troublemaker, I think instead of spitting words back you should realize, as quality control you would try to uphold your companies name, too. As thats how you pay your bills.

This might not be a popular view, but I just find it sad that so many people voted for President Obama because they thought they were going to be taken care of via programs such as tax rebates, stimulous checks, etc. Maybe they will, but where is their sense of pride in themselves? My husband grew up in a Socialized country, and unless you live it or are close to someone who has, it is hard to understand how detrimental Socializm is. Just my .02 cents.

Hi smo65d11,

I partially agree with you. Instead of just dumping more non-existent money at it via stimuli or bailouts, they should seriously re-consider re-introducing banking regulations so the financial institutions don't continue to bleed the economy and the people dry for their own enrichment. It's just feudalism all over again under a different name.

But I'm not sure how you can blame Obama on this one, what about the last stimulus package? I'm sure Obama didn't come up with that one. And did you know that that the GOP is fighting for even more "tax rebates, stimulus checks, etc." than Obama is?

I think JOBS  would stimulate the economy far better (and I don't mean Steve). Repeal NAFTA!

The whole financial system in the US needs a serious overhaul. Right now it only seems to support greed and persistence. Some people would just like to live their lives with a minimum of hassle. And THAT is true Freedom.

Here's to peace, freedom, and happiness!

Hi Lisa,

See the IRS site, but I doubt it. For last years stimulus, I was mailed a notice (as a registered taxpayer) by the IRS detailing the qualifications. However, if you file early, you MAY just get a notice in the mail. But from what I gather, this one will not be so much in the form of payments, which is why no Republicans voted for it. So it hasn't passed yet.

My daughter filed for the first time and she got $300 from the last years stimulus.

Last year I filed her as a dependent but I did not get the extra $300 as she was 17.

She got it as part of her refund this year. They are calling it rebate recovery. As long as no one can file you as a dependent this year you can get it.

I did not even know about it until we were using TaxAct to do her taxes and it tacked on the $300. I did some checking and low and behold she did qualify for it.

I was bummed last year that I didn't get the $300 but I was so happy she got it this year. We were both pretty thrilled.

You can read more about it here.

I was under the impression, when we did our Taxes for the year 2008, our Rebate (from last year) was going to be taken out of our taxes. I already did my taxes ( a few weeks ago0 and I don't think it was taken out.

That is not the case. The stimulus was your anticipated refund for your 2008 taxes.

You can read more about it here.

From that link...

"It's an economic stimulus payment that more than 124 million households will receive. It's not taxable, and it won't reduce your 2007 or 2008 refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return."

Again, it is my understanding that no one will recieve a check for a stimulus payment this time, if anything, it will be a reduction in the amount of income taxes you pay in the amount of around $10.00 extra a week in your pocket for the year. And of course it is based on the individulal income.

thank you

Well.......I guess $10.00, more per week, is better than nothing. I am 'low income'..so, of course, anything extra would help!!

unfortunately i agree that adding all this stimulus is just gonna get trickled down to us and our children. I really really really could use a stimulus check right now, but i dont want it nor thier 10.00 a week. My family is very low income less than 30,000 a year but i realize that in the end we will be paying for this crappy bill. I have signed a patition at nostimulus.com to stop this bill. This site is very informative as to how this bill exactly works and i hate to say it for most people like us, this will not work. I have read up on this before i came to this decision. For example obama is putting all this money into eco-friendly business like windmills, solar panels, etc. to stimulate the economy and save the envirement. But how are people going to afford these purchases when they cant even pay thier mortages? It wont matter because most people wont have homes to purchase these products anyway within the next few years. This is a big waste and burden on us and our children.

and for those of us who are self employed, we get a higher self employment tax, even though I am "making" $10.00 per hour before taxes ... so this "stimulous" basically just made me $1 per hour LESS than before ... now my self employment tax is about $3.20 per hour, so I am making $6.80 per hour. I guess I could say I am "lucky" to have a job, but when I have been in the same line of business for 15 years, it is pretty hard to swallow.

i suggest we all just go on welfare. There is no reason anymore for us to try to stay off it. The harder you work the more you get screwed. The more you fight it to stay off, the gov. makes up some new law to screw you even more. Unless you are on welfare this bill will not help you one little bit its only gonna hurt when inflation goes up. Thanks to mr. pres. obama. Bend over and grab your legs because hes gotten us from behind.

Sadly i saw this comming, and now we cant stop it. before to long there will be no middle class you will be rich or on welfare. were are you headed?

Yeah really.

I have worked my entire adult life since I was 16. I raised two kids and have been at the same job for almost 17 years and I feel I am in the same position I was back when I was a single mom raising two kids. I was never on welfare or got food stamps.

I am still broke and I don't have a dime more to my name then I had back then except my pathetic 401K which is a joke to even look at now.

I still struggle to pay rent and bills. I still have a ten year old vechical and I have nothing of any major value. Hell I just bought a new dish drain and felt it was exciting as my old one was ten years old and a thrift store buy at that.

My stimulus check all went to bills and I am still behind.

My tax refund went to bills and needed household items.

It is supposed to get easier not harder. It really sucks.

I'm a single mom, ..myself. And I know where alot of the people are 'coming from'. Sometimes I feel like I'm just not 'getting ahead'. Even, at times, falling behind with things, again. However......even when the tough times arise, I still keep reminding myself I'm continuing to do my best in raising my son. ..he's my 'whole world'!!

its sad that 2 years ago i just got out of a settlement program, had the same bills, and was saving money. The last 6 months i started loosing money due to the rise of everything. So no i need to figure something else out. i have been cutting corners, and cutting costs with some fresh ideas and have been blogging about it so that others can use this to help them too. I know its tough for everyone right now and if we help eachother help ourselves we will all come out on top.

I read on a previous post about homemade laundry soap and dont want to post it to my blog till i try it out, but if it works this will save me a bundle. In one of my cookbooks it shows reciepes for all kinds of cleaning supplies and mostly its vinegar and baking soda. Very cheap. I will be posting this info soon.

But the key here is to keep hope that there is always a way. If you are determined you will make it work.

My refund....hold on to your pants i got crazy!!!!! i bought groceries and paid off 2 small cc that i used to install my furnace last summer. how exciting.
