Updated February 18, 2004:
The FCC announced today that it has received nearly 10,000 complaints since the Do Not Call Registry came into effect October 1, 2003. The FCC has also issued eight citations for Do Not Call Registry violations.

I have been called over and over again by a Stephanie Jones (1-877-337-3099) True Logic Financial, Colorado. I have gone to their site and complained about this person calling me for the past 2-3 weeks @7pm or 8pm -- I let the answering machine take it but if I answer it is a recording and a series of ref. numbers...no way to talk to her. I have also noted that I am on the Do Not Call List thru the FCC and that I intend to followup on this with them. Anne Vogler

Clyde check YOUR facts. Why don't you go to True logics web page and find out a thing or two about your employer.

We had the same problems with TrueLogic. They were calling our house all the time waking my toddlers up on Sunday at 8am or in the afternoons during their nap times. The calls wouldn't stop!!!!
Then I started getting really frustrated and called them back. I told them that I wanted to be put on their DO NOT CALL LIST. They asked for my number and the name they provided was for the previous owner since we just acquired our phone number. Of course, the address was also wrong. This is so frustrating!!!! We have an unlisted number so that no one can do lookups on similar names which also happened with us and other debt collectors. It's so frustrating is that they can keep doing this and disrupt our family and my children's sleep. What about us who keep getting harrassed and we didn't do anything to deserve it. The only fault we have is acquiring an old number that someone else had or having a similar name as someone else that owes money!!!

My husband has been receiving letters from True Logic. We've been trying to call the number to verify the info because we do not recall a debt from the creditor they mentionned. The 1-877 # is always busy, the 1-866# from the website doesn't work either. how can we go about finding out more about this debt? Now they are ending a settlement offer... but I don't want to be sending money to this company for no reason...

Maybe instead of blaming employees or collectors blame the top person/persons in the company cuz employees are there to do a job just like cops or the Law do everyday we don't like it but we live with it also blaming the Debters for it for not paying there debt ....

Since links are not allowed... Google "Bud Hibbs" and go to his Web site. Click the heading "Agencies to Avoid", then click on TrueLogic Financial. Reading this information makes Clyde's comments laughable.

I too started getting calls from these people about a month ago. We finally relented and called them back and were told to verify our social security number, when We refused We were given the last 4 digits of a social security number that did not match either of ours. But we were told that they were calling about a past due Montgomery Wards account. I paid my account off in 2001 and my credit report reflects that I have had a 0 balance for over 5 years and that the account is closed. Wards went out of business in 1999, so these people can say what they want, but they are debt purchasers that prey on the public hoping they will get some money from someone, no matter what they have to do. Also, it seems funny that they can call anytime they want, including weekends, but if you call the 866# they give you in the recording, you get a message to call during business hours. I put the phone number in my refused calls list on my phone, so they will get a recording to answer the recording. I plan to ask the Attorny General to look into this as being a scam to get people to expose their indenity so these people can sell that too.

if these folks are truly a nuisance, keep in mind that they give you a toll free number to call

it is free to you, but costs them a relatively nominal fee, 1-3 cents /minute

however 1 cent X 1000 people X 2 calls/day

would add up to $20/day
which comes to about $7300 / year

it isnt difficult to set up a speed dial and click it randomly during the day

just a couple thoughts....
cheers

1000 people, 2 calls per day, 365 days

$7300

think it over, not difficult to put them on speed dial, adn while you pour a cup of coffee....

maybe they will get the hint and stop calling

They are telling me I owe $495, for cancelling my cell phone service with them 4 years ago. I am considering getting legal advice but does anyone know how to make them go away??

I also recieved numerous calls from them. I was afraid to call because they gave no information and it sounded fishy. I have read lots of complaints about them. They were looking for somebody with the same last name but it wasn't me. I have to say the best advice is to call them and find out exactly why they are trying to contact you. They are a legitimate debt buyer so there may be an unpaid bill you don't know about or like in my case it could just be a mistake. The woman(Lisa) was quick to appologize and remove my number from their system.

If this helps, I've been receiving the same messages from True Logic from the same number (1-877-337-3099). I actually called them back and the woman I spoke to said they were looking for a particular person with my phone number. It wasn't me so she supposedly took my number off this person's contact list. Hopefully that solved the calling. We'll see, but if you guys are getting these calls, they may be looking to collect from a person with an incorrect phone number, namely yours, so calling them back might actually stop the calls. Like I said, I'll see if that does it. If not, then that can't be it.

However, if you suspect that they are calling you getting the right person then you probably should call them back anyway.

I called and they now have an option to take your phone number off. I entered it, so lets see if they'll take it off. I have absolutely no outstanding debts and have no idea how they got my number. 1/3/07

So true! I am getting calls for the person who had this phone number...in 2004! Becuz the phone co. turns numbers around in 60 days I had the bad luck to inherit phone calls from True Logic. Have you ever heard their weekend follow up message if you fail to call back after the first one!?!?

I am receiveing call at 3:30 every day so far and they dont leave a message they just call. IT is annoying because it is while I'm at work and so I ahve to put it on silent so I wont know if i get an emergency family call. I am afraid to call bakc and do something because I do not want it to be some crazy scam where they charge you $4000 in long distance fees. Any advice? Is it okay to call back?

I'm also someone who has never missed a payment or carried any kind of debt aside from my home mortgage loan. For months I had also been receiving the automated calls from their dialer/messager, and upon doing a websearch with the phone number came across this forum. I sympathize with everyone else who has had the annoyance of inheriting a phone number once carried by someone who racked up debt!

I finally got tired of the repeated calling and caved and called the number from a different phone. I was directed into an automated system and, a couple layers deep on their menus, found the option for "If you believe we have contacted you in error, press 2."

Upon doing this, they prompted me not for the reference number but to punch in the phone number at which I'd been receiving the calls. I did so, and the system told me I'd be removed from the list within 2 business days.

Surprisingly painless, and the calls have indeed stopped (it's been a week and a half, I'll post again if they resume). Never once had to speak to a rep, which is odd.

A different collection agency, with human agents leaving direct lines rather than autodialers, also had begun calling as of late -- a quick phone call and cordial conversation with the agent got me off of their lists as well. The number of accounts these collection agencies must have, in order to be closing them without any kind of real verification, must be staggering.

So we'll see how long the peace and quiet lasts. But now I'm a bit lonely because no one ever calls :)

I don't even recall at this point how long we've been getting these calls. It's a guy's voice (and a woman's voice) and the 877 number, but no company name and no reason as to why we should call them back.

And, gee, after all this time, the only employee that can post a note to defend TrueLogic and their practices is "Clyde". Supposedly, TrueLogic is one of Colorado's 25 best places to work and only one employee can figure out how to find this forum and back that up? Very phishy indeed.

The best way to get this issue resolved when being harrassed is to check the BBB. this company has SEVERAL BBB filed complaints against them. I am going to file one as well.

I disagree. While I might file a BBB complaint anyway, if the harrassment is illegal, then you get yourself an attorney and/or file complaints with your attorney general. The best way to stop illegal behavior is to cost them money. After all, this is a collection agency, do you really think they care what the public thinks about them?

After repeated calls requesting a return call to 1-866-488-4299, I did. I opted to speak to a representative, Option 0.

Gene was the representative, a polite person. Seems they were looking for a woman with the same name as my wife for a debt of $126.74 to Orlando Utilities Commission. He requested that I remit $126.74 "as it is due in the office, today."

I requested a debt validation. He said I'd have to request it in writing that they were "not a billing company."

He then asked me if the last four of my wife's social securtiy was a certain number. I took a minute while I looked it up on my computer data. I told him that my wife's last four was not the number he gave me. He apologized saying that "your wife is not the person we are looking for, then."

He asked me if we lived at the address he had and if our phone number was the number he had. I said they were. He also asked if my wife had ever worked at the Coalition for the Homeless. I responded, "No."

He said he would remove her from their "system" and that we should not get any more calls from them, after 24 hours.

They apparently did a search on the debtor's name and found my wife and proceeded to put us in their "system" so their robot could call us every day. It has been extremely annoying. Hopefully, this will end the calls.

Gene was a polite person, as I said, but I wonder if he was within his right to ask me to submit the outstanding debt before he had sent a debt validation?

I get calls like this from time to time asking for someone I have never heard of. At first, I got upset and just ignored all calls from numbers I didn't recognize. Now, I always answer and have a little fun...I ask about their families, the weather they are having...of course I always fill them in on the latest neighborhood gossip. Now, THEY hang up on ME! After a while, they just give up...I am in control! Everyone should try this method, it is terrific entertainment. :D :) 8)

I too have recently recieved several calls from Truelogic (if that isn't a misnomer, I don't know what is) for a Tiffany H. I have recieved calls in the past but can't document who they cam from. My complaint is that their computer dialer can call me and wake me on Sunday morning, but the 866 number they have is only from Monday- Friday. I called this morning and have it documented with names of who I talked to. If they ever call me again for Tiffany H., my attorney will gladly return their call.

We were getting calls from TrueLogic and since we have called ID we weren't answering. I decided to find out who was calling and I called the number. When I found out who it was I got concerned. My name and financial info was on a stolen computer of a former employer (I worked for a security company for 2 weeks). I talked to a very polite person. He asked if I was (name withheld), when I said no he said I'm sorry sir, do you live at (address withheld) and when I said no he said he would take me off their calling list. He said it would take 24-48 hours.
We'll see...

All you have to do is call 877-337-3099, press 2, enter your number, confirm it, and your number gets removed without having to talk to anybody. They say it can take up to 48 hours for your number to be removed from their database.

The best way to stop them from calling you is to speak with an agent and verify that the person they are trying to reach is not you. They are likely to try and verify your identity by name and the last 4 digits of your SSN. If you continue to ignore the calls or refuse to speak to anyone then there is no way for them to know that they are reaching the incorrect party and it is likely the calls will continue. It's really not that big of a deal unless you really are the person they are trying to reach and you are trying to duck out of a debt that you owe.

Cajun,

I agree, that is another way to do it that should work, but in my experience it is faster to do it over the phone than through the mail. And I am not advocating giving them any personal information. When you speak with an agent they will give you a name and the last 4 digits of a SSN# and if those do not match yours then simply tell them so and they will know they have the wrong person (and that is without giving them any information about yourself).

Of course, if the calls continue after you have tried that (not likely in my experience) then sending a C&D is the way to go.

Cajun,

I understand completely. And just to reiterate my point, I am not advocating giving any personal information out. Unless you consider telling them your name is NOT "John Doe" and the last 4 digits of your SSN are NOT "1234".

Of course, if you ARE the debtor they are looking for and you wish them to stop calling then I would definitely suggest sending a C&D. My advice was more for those people who are receiving phone calls about a debt that is not theirs.

These idiots have been leaving me messages for months since I looked it up I know its a scam so never returned the calls. I know I don't owe anyone any money but I need this to stop. They take up space on my answering machine for legitimate clients to reach me. Filed with FTC and donotcall registry anything make these idiots stop?

JO.........1997? Isn't that a "tad" out of SOL for almost any state for debt collection? If anyone here can answer my questions, please do. I think even tho a debt is SOL a collector can still try to collect. I have also heard that they pay pennies on the dollar for a debt but then try to collect the original amount. Two issues with this. I've never had a collection agency provide any service for me and I don't ever remember asking them to pay a debt for me and expect me to pay them back. Furthermore, if the original creditor will accept pennies on the dollar from them why wouldn't they accept that from the original owner of the debt? I have debt due to a string of crises within my family starting in Feb. 2007. My nephew and father died within weeks of each other of cancer, my nephew in Feb., my father in April. My fiance and his income left the 3rd of March. He couldn't take the pressure. My mother has had a catheterization, hand surgery and multiple appointments for many shots for pain in her neck. High wind took part of my roof that insurance denied a claim for and now more is gone from a tornado that went through a few weeks ago. Through all of this with work missed for medical reasons, etc., Add to this that when this all started I traded cars because of the amount of time and distance I was having to travel. My original load company took a payment that did not belong to them out of my account which made checks bounce. That was fun. I had to get my bank to retract that payment because the load company wouldn't accept my calls! I have fallen dangerously behind and defaulted on some payments. Do the collection agencies care? No. Did the original creditors care? No. They want more of a payment than I can afford so the ones that matter right now are the ones I can't do without. Like lot rent, utilities and such. I refuse to give bank info so the collectors deny any "deals" they offer to resolve my debt with them. Some are deadbeats. But some of us genuinely care and want to pay but they make it impossible by demanding for more than we can pay at one time. True Logic is one of them.

yes I know....it really bothers when you are trying to pay off your debs but the other party is not at all concerned about your efforts. These people do not want to understand that everyone of us wants to get rid off our debts....nobody wants to fall behind their payments....its because of certain unavoidable circumstances that most of the consumers vbuid a stack of bills.

I keep getting calls from Truelogic on my cell phone. I have had the phone 3 years and have never given the number to anyone except family members.

I called and was asked over and over for my cell number and I kept asking how they could get a cell number that only 5 people knew. They finally hung up on me.

I wonder if among their many scams they may be also collecting and celling cell phone numbers. Don't give them anything as far a phone number, and don't call from your cell because they can simply use caller ID to capture what they know is a working number. When they call me now I just set my autodialer on my computer to call they back every 5 minutes for an hour so they get to know what it's like to be harrassed.
