Central Portfolio Control INC.
I recieved a phone call from CPC INC. about a bill that I dont even remember, anyway the person that called me was very unprofesional. He was mean. He told me that I was going to jail, and when I told him that I could not pay a bill that I had no proof that I even owed he told me to ask my parents for the money (I am 30 by the way.) He insisted that I give him the number to my parents credit card over the phone and I could stay out of jail. I told him I had 2 children to support and I could not pay $1,000.00 of money I wasnt even sure that I owed. He informed me that my children didn't have to eat EVERY day..That they would be fine. I asked to speak to his boss and he said he didn't have one. He informed me that He was going to call me everyday, He said that I would wake up to his voice and fall asleep to his voice. Then I hung up. In 10 min. He called me back !!! And asked me if I had became responsible yet. IN 10 MIN !!!! I will not pay this bill to Central Portfolio Control with out some form of document showing that I owe it. I do not recall oweing this money. I would be more than happy to pay off any debt that I may owe someone, I just need some proof before giving a credit card number or check to anyone. Some of the things that this man has said to me is scary. I can't fall asleep at night from being worried that he is going to call and say some of the degrating things that he said to me. I am afraid of this person and I do not know what to do about it. If I owe the bill I will pay it.I just wont this man to leave me alone. I have night mares about this man !!

HELP!!!!!!!I have outstanding credit. I owe no one.I have nothing to do with these phone calls. Apparently, someone prior to my owning this home had a debit. Why can't these people understand that. Unfortunetely, I'm having to disconnect my phone...place it unlisted and hopefully this will stop it. I just hate having to change my number that I've had for over 7 years. Does anyone have a real solution to have these uneducated people call my number for a debt I have ABSOUTELY nothing to do with.
Central Portfolio Control
Get the name of the company that is calling you - if they will give you an address, get that as well; if they won't give you an address, search for it on this site. Then mail a "Cease and Desist" letter to the company. This should stop them from calling you. Also, check the laws for recording calls in your state. If you can record the calls, you can use their own words to sue them for violating the law.
Central Portfolio Control
I had these people call my phone repeatedly looking to collect from some guy I never heard of but apparantly gave them my cell phone#. After awhile I called them and explained who I was and not the person they were looking for and to please take out my number. They didn't. Called again and I called back and was spoken to very rudely. I asked the guy the name of the company and he wouldn't tell me and I asked where they were located and he said 'On Your Mama!!!!' Classy.
Central Portfolio Control unprofessional
This company is very unprofessional. Best thing to do is NOT answer thier calls. Report them to the BBB and Federal Trade Commisson. They laughed at me, hung up on me and after demanding I get to speak with a supervisor I would have much rather talked to the piss ant that called me first. The supervisor was worse than any of them. They refused to give me the name of their company (I had to do a reverse search on the number they called me from)...Central Portfolio Control refused to give me a name of whom I was talking to. IN the end they had been trying to reach someone that had the number I had before me. I had no clue who this person was and they didn't believe me. I hope all is over now I guess we will see in the months to come.
central portfolio control threatened to harm me
I have been receiving phone calls from these people since I got a new phone number in July - they are looking for someone named HIroshi and I have explained that my number is new and that I do not know the person. They call 3-4 times a day on average of 3 days a week.
On September 24th, they called again, I explained it to Central Portfolio Control, again and told them not to call anymore and hung up. The guy called back immediately screaming Don't you ever hang up on me again youf**king b*tch or I'll come over there and kick your ass" and then he scremed repeatedly a GIVE ME HIS NUMBER. I screamed back and hung up and he called back two more times. After I calmed down, I called them back and spoke to someone named Jennfer and she hung up pn me!!
I've FTC, Minnesota Department of commerce, do not call registry and also called the local police to reprt the threat. They called the company and confirmed that I am not the person they are looking for.
HELP!!!
I Work for Central Portfolio Control
Understand that we are people trying to earn a living, we recieve ALOT of commission for each debt we collect, $16,000 in fees we collect comes out to be about $7,500 commission check each month. If we get your phone number and you are not the "debtor" there's pretty much nothing you can do but give them another phone number, try having the number to the FTC on hand and give them that number as the debtor's number - maybe we'll get the message... But anyways, if you KNOW the debtor, GIVE them their number!! Or call the debtor yourself and have THEM correct the problem or pay the debt!! The reason Central Portfolio Control is so rude is becasue 99.9% of debtors that owe money LIE about who they are, we're thinking YOU are the debtor and YOU are LYING to us about who you are so you don't have to pay the debt.

OK. You've made your point. Now it's my turn.
Nothing gives you the right to pull some of the crap that collectors pull. Consider that the person on the other end of that phone call may actually be telling you straight. He may not know the person you're looking for, or where to find him. He may not give a rusty f*#k about your supposed commission check. Damn straight I don't.
You want to continue playing this game with Central Portfolio Control? Sure, you can call up at all hours, ranting and raving. You can threaten and bluster and generally act the fool. Hell, disregard law, civility and common courtesy altogether. It's all the same to me.
Last time someone like you called here, I laughed in his face. Made the poor boy so flustered he couldn't hardly talk. Honestly, I didn't mean to hurt his last feeling. I guess it was just his lucky day. He got off light.
Before calling up and acting the fool with somebody you know nothing about, you might want to just chill out a bit. As far as I'm concerned, if you get rude, abusive, or whatever, that person you called has every right to use whatever means he's got at his disposal to make you see reason. Legal or otherwise. Nobody is required to be your doormat.
Some of us might lie. Some might hang up on you. Others might write letters to you, or to your clients, or government regulators. Still others may even sue. You never know, that person you screamed profanity at this morning at 3:30 might be the one of us with the skills to track you down, and the means to make his displeasure felt in person. It has happened.
How about you spare a thought for the other guy before you ruin his day? Or before he ruins yours.

Hahaha, sounds like one of "us" has struck one of YOUR last nerves, well I must say that typically, (speaking on my own behalf)if someone I call tells me they do not know the debtor, and we have never spoken to the debtor at the phone number provided, I will simply delete the phone number out of our system... No sense in calling the same number over and over with the same response, see the definition of insanity. But anyways, I read a blog posting of this woman (Cherrie, on this website, search: 'central portfolio control' to find her post) claiming we kept calling for her ex-husband who she claims has never even BEEN to her house/doesn't live there... I searched the file in our database (she listed her husbands name so it was easy to pull it up) and in fact WE had called her home number (which she provided IN the blog post) and SPOKE to her "ex" husband on February 12th at that number... and she thought she could blog and lie about it - my point exactly about the lying debtors (she wasn't even the debtor, but you get the idea, 95% of the poeple we talk to LIE)her husband stated he filed a chapter 13 bankruptsy... was going out of town for a while, would take care of it upon his return...
So, in conclusion, it's too bad that most collectors ( as Central Portfolio Control)are a$$holes, but I'm sure you can figure out a way to mess with them... On my own behalf, I prefer actually helping people pay off there debts legitimately by settin gup payment plans, I know most debtors don't have much EXTRA cash to throw at some debt they really don't care about anyways.

CPC Collector
Hmm, I just typed a response but it doesn't seem to be posting, lemme try again, I guess what I was saying is that basically it's too bad most collectors are ****, sounds like someone hit your last nerve last time they called, well anyways, I guess most of us develope this rude personality when we are lied to contantly. I actually found proof of this one blogger LYING in her BLOG post... Her name is "Cherrie" and you can find her blog by searching Central Portfolio Control on this website. Anyways, she was all hyped up because she claimes we kept calling HER home for her ex-husband who owed money, she claimed her ex had never lived or even BEEN to her home, which she provided the phone# in the blog posting, I searched her husbands file on our database and we HAD infact SPOKEN to her husband at the number she claimes was to her home which her husband had never been... my point is that MOST everybody LIES straight up when we call them, THEREFOR, most collectors develope this pre-determined idea that you are lying to them. And we're thinking basically if you're lying to us and not paying, we're not putting as much food on the table as we could if you're telling the truth and paying - so that pretty much makes us feel like your taking food off our tables ya damn lying hillbillies NOW PAY ME!! Haha, well anyways, on my own behalf, I prefer helping honest people pay there debts, if you say you don't know the debtor when we call I simply delete the number, no sense in calling over and over with the same "Wrong number" response, see the definition of insanity. Well I guess I covered most everything... so long, debtors - now go pay your bills, or I'll destroy your credit report with notes claiming refusal to pay!

Wyatt, I was just getting to like you a little bit in your posts until you said go pay your bills and the threat of destroying my CR was uncalled for. This is a debt consolidation care forum (this website is here to help me pay my bills)
Forgive me if I seem jaded but I've had too many people come on here in the past bleating "PAY YOUR BILLS DEBTOR SCUM!" and it's kinda getting old. I am a debtor because I am in debt, but I'm getting myself out of debt. I request validation from collection agencies (so I know I'm paying the right individual), as soon as they send me validation I immediately call them so that I can work something out.
My advice to you is don't call people here debtors (even though anyone who owes money to anyone is considered a debtor, including utilities) or tell people here to pay our bills. That can be very touchy verbage to use and will usually generate some negative response due to some previous guests that come here to rant and rave about that. Just try toning it down on that, keep it civil and feel free to stick around.

Wyatt you can tone down your posting or we can revoke posting rights here. Everyone here will obey our board rules or will be kicked out. This is not a personal playground to bring personal business to,it is a forum to give ideas and knowledge. If you claim you have proof of someone lying, then save it in case your firm is sued.

I do what I can to help. It's little enough.
It just pisses me off when CAs pull the kind of low, underhanded crap that makes us all love them so much. Nobody here is a doormat to be walked on at some collector's whim. If enough of us band together to share knowledge and information, we can make the underhanded collectors' lives very uncomfortable. That's why I'm here.

Well, I guess I'll answer my own question. It's debt consolidation Care. This site helps people PAY THEIR BILLS, wow, what a concept. It also doubles as consumer advocacy. We help by educating people of the rights they are granted via federal and state statutes. If someone's rights have been violated we teach them how to fight back. We encourage people to pay the bills they owe. But we also want to make sure they are not paying anything that is illegally inflated or pay to a company they do not owe.
You should check out the consolidation services this site offers. I'll probably be enrolling in it soon myself to so that they can work with my creditors and lower my payments. Great services.

Sorry to hear of your impending demise, Cajun. I try to put the 'fun' in 'funeral'.....
I'm not just doin' this for comic relief, ya know. Shills in general just piss me off. Shills for CAs really piss me off. I don't like the idea that they might hassle or confuse somebody who came in here scared and in need of help. There's enough of that in the Real World, we don't need it here. So I point them up as what they are.

Well, I'm glad it's been a moderating influence on you, my friend. Myself, I'd probably warn'em a time or two, then lock'em out. Granted, I don't know what the moderating rules on here are. That's just my first inclination.
I haven't been here all that long, but I've noticed the trouble these shills can cause. A new member arrives here, scared, confused, and in need of serious advice. Maybe one or two of us start to say something to help, then BAM! Some pinhead pops in saying crap to the effect that everything that person is going through is because they're a horrible deadbeat, they're really gonna be arrested, they oughtta borrow to pay the CA....... All the kind, considerate things that shills love to say on here. Predictably, that just makes the problem worse.
I really try not to 'go off' on these shills. But I don't hesitate to use any legitimate weapon at my command to point them up for what they are. Humor, sarcasm, irony.... Whatever works. If it saves just one honest member a sleepless night, it's worth it in my book. What say you?

JCemt, I read a "DECLARATORY RULING" adopted by the FCC December 28,2007 and released on January 4, 2008. It stated that in some cases a CA can make collection calls to your cellphone. This ruling was requested by ACA International, a debt colletor association.

Well, this company is RIDICULOUS. First point: my phone rang at work at 2:18pm. A message was left. 2:19 my phone rings again. Same number. A message was left. SAME EXACT MESSAGE! <---idiots Second point: I am first contacted on Friday February 22nd that I need to come up with like, $2800 by the end of February. I started laughing and was explaining there was no way I could come up with that much money in a week. I am told to ask my mom or pop or a friend. I then explain if I had family who could hand out thousands of dollars in a week, I wouldn't owe anyone money. Third Point: I am told I own a $20,000 car. And that is the only thing the company I owe money to will see. (I have a car that is falling apart and has no power steering) <--- Moron Fourth Point: I am told that I will go to court and my pay check will be deducted because Im young and they can pull that money out no problem. <--are you KIDDING me???
I DO owe this debt and I offered them what I know I can afford to pay a month. (To which I was laughed at) I in turn shall answer and hang up on this guy until I get taken to court. This way when the judge looks over my paperwork, he'll understand why I can pay what I can pay. And they can go eff themselves!!

Michael Stoger, mn lic #20517346 Has been calling me trying to get ahold of my son. I have told him several times my son hasnt lived here in 20 years. He says my son gave them my number and I know this is not true. They looked it up from old records or something. This man refused to identify himself, cursed and laughed at me when I begged him to stop calling and that I couldnt help him. He said the only way he would stop calling was if I was to tell him how to get ahold of my son. Im not going to put my son thru this type of abuse. If I thought for a second this company would be respectful to my sons and his situation I would encourage him to call them but not with the way I was treated. The last call I tried to record, as soon as I told him I was recording the call and that the police advised me to tell them to stop calling he hung up. When I called back I got some lady that sad "well tell your deadbeat son to pay his dam bills" then she hung up. After reading this forum I will be contacting all the agencies suggested and I thank everyone for posting on this page.

Welcome to the forum robertintn, I guess you reside in TN? If so then you do not need to notify them you are recording any calls as TN is a one party state, which means that it only requires the consent of one party involved in the conversation, which would be you.

I just filed a complaint against these guys. One Elizebeth called and begun asking if I needed an attorny. When asked if they were taking me to court she would not reply. I took this this a threat. When asked for a supervisor she refused to get one. I will now file a complaint in MN. Where can you find the recording laws for your state? I'd love to get these debators on recording.
Second, I never said I would't pay them. I told the orginal holder of the loan I would pay. They need to give me more time and reduce the penalty fees. They did neither. A 1.5k debt jumped to 3k.
I asked the collector how much they bought the debt for i.e .25 on the dollor she claims they didn't buy it that they are working for the original lender. Pretty sure that is BS since the lende shows it as Charge off.
Last someone in here said that this hurts your credit rating. The sad thing is since this charge off I've been offered other credit cards, approved for refi to safe my house. The effects of credit card charge offs are so minor its almost funny.

Funny story to add to the mess. CPC has called me before also and been really rude. One guy even told me that if I was currently getting ready to be prosecuted by my local county...haha...right!! So the other day, someone else called and when I asked for the detailed information...company name, address, phone number, he said "you dont need that information to make a payment on the account" and I simply said "if i dont need the information than i guess you dont need the payment" and hung up. I called today in hopes of talking to someone with a few more manners... well got transferred 3x and when i requested something in writing, he asked why i wanted and blah blah blah... so then he transfers me to someone... and i've learned to take notes now... well i ask the lady her name, she tells me, and since it was an odd name I asked her to spell it.. she says "its spelt just like it sounds".. well obviously if i knew how to spell it, i'd have never have asked you to spell it for me. Anyways, she proceeds to say, how can I help you very rudely... I simply said "you can't" and hung-up. I am really sick of thic companies behavior and am going to the originating creditor. If they want payment bad enough I guess they will take care of this problem. I suggest anyone else ask who the original creditor is and then contact them....

CPC is awful
CPC has been calling my house for a while looking for my 83 year old grandmother. We don't answer the house phone ever! It is hooked up just so we can have Direct TV and DSL. On 8/8/08 I answered the house phone because my cell phone was broken and I was expecting a call from a friend. It was a man by the name of John B from CPC. I let him know that the person he was looking for didn't live there. He was rude and aggressive yelling at me to stop covering for my grandmother. I asked him to remove my number from the list and he refused. I asked him how he got my name and phone number since my grandmother lived hours away, he said she gave it to him. That is the biggest line of BS because my grandmother has my cell phone line only!!!! When I asked for the business name he said it, but refused to repeat it. He said, "Lady, you seem like a smart person, figure it out for yourself!" Then when I asked to speak with a superior he replied, "Request rejected." I could not believe the unprofessionalism this man had. Do they not undergo customer service training. I understand some people lie, but I am telling the truth...My grandmother DOES NOT live with me. I know they already have my grandmother's number. They have been calling forever. They gave up on her line and googled anyone with a home phone number with the same last name. They are awful. I turned them on to the BBB this morning online. If they call again, I WILL call the police.
