Hi everyone.

I am wondering if anyone has ever heard of/received a call from "the fraud division of CCB." I received a voicemail stating they are calling due to allegations involving my name and social security number. They also called a friend of mine and stated that she was listed as a reference. I am pretty sure this "attorney's office" is somehow linked to a payday loan company, as the calls did not start until I sent my letter demanding my refund and notifying these companies that they were not legal to lend in the state of Indiana, etc., etc.

Today I received another message from "James Black" at this company stating that if I did not return his phone call, they would process this through my county.

Just trying to see if there is anyone else here that has had to deal with these people and if there is a proper way I should deal with his calls.

Thanks!
BttrflyV69

try to get a ph#off your caller id.that would help us help you.it does sound like a pdl collector or a pdl.also sounds like a bottomfeeder.no legit creditor would threaten like that.save that voice mail it could come in handy to pursue action against this person or company.if you can try to talk to these people once,get a company name.if they refuse,don't speak to them again.they can't and won't do anything.if they have to leave messages like that they aren't legal.

Thanks. The phone number "Mr. Black" leaves is 888-291-6973. I called one night over the weekend to see if I could get a voice mail with the company's correct name. It said "CCB Associates." The only thing that makes me believe it is involved with a payday loan company, is because the person they called and said I had listed as a reference was a reference I used for a couple PDLs. Only thing, other than a job reference, I had listed her for.

Received a call today from James Black of the Fraud Division of CCR regarding allegations attached to my name and SS# that have been presented to his office for prosecution. This is the message he left with a relative.

He left this number 888-291-6973. I am sure I will rush and call that nice gentleman back, NOT!!!

Also guessing this is a PD loan collector as I have never done business with anyone legitimate that would leave that kind of message.

This was a collection agency for a payday loan company. The payday loan company and I had already come to an agreement and my account was marked "Paid In Full." I notified the collection agency via email as well as contacted the PDL that their collection agency was harassing me. The PDL contacted them and I have not heard another word since.

Beware. This company claims to be attorneys. When you call the number and get the voicemail, it even says they are attorneys. They are not. They are snake in the grass collection agents.

The "Mr Black" used by CCR Associates staff is likely a fictious name used by staff. The illigitmacy of their calls are designed to negatively reflect on the innocent and upset you enough so you'll phone them back. It is often regarding a name you've never even heard of and by these people phoning the manager where you live, your partents or employer about something or someone you know nothing about- they have succeeded at negatively reflecting on your repuation for no reason. They may be legitimately trying to locate someone with a debt, but should not be cold-calling strangers or leaving a waste of illegitimate doubt behind in their wake, regarding unrelated parties. That is unacceptable! You should refuse providing confidential information- resist phoning them back and instead, phone your State Attorney General with a complaint. Also be aware staff from companies like these will makes posts on sites like this, to further intimidate you. Don't fall for it. I'm not talking about avoiding a legitimate debt- I'm talking about not being in arrears on anything and refusing to answer phishing phone calls designed to capture your phone number or other private info. Caller: CCR Associates

Ok, so I get a call from ph 888-291-6973. It's a Miss Collins in "legal servies" and the are calling me in reference to a Tommy French, Case 18000-0.

Well I don't have any debts, don't know a Tommy French and the case numbers and all the names sound fake to me. Unfortunatly I missed the call--they left a message and they are not answering now.

Yeah, I think the are probably some bottom-feeder company that bought some old old names and is trying to get a bite.

I'll call them back tomorrow to laugh and make fun of them tho. I mean, they aren't even referencing me! What the hell? Anyway, I'm not scared because I don't have any debt so they can't be collectors looking for me. But saying it's in reference to a "tommy french?" What the heck is that all about? I think it's all fake. Should be a fun call.

My son received a call today from "Mr. Brown" from CCR & Assoc in regard to an old PDL he took out 3 yrs ago. Mr. Brown said that if he did not give him $200 with his debit card # within 24 hrs he would notify the courts and have him sued. My son says that he believes he does have an outstanding balance on an old loan but doesn't recall the amount. Doesn't he have the right to ask for something in writing from CCR before just giving up bank info to someone over the phone applying pressure to sue within 24 hrs? It's my opinion that he should never give up info like that without confirmation of the debit. Advice please.

When I called the number I got a voicemail stating that I could input the extension number or hold for the next available representative....aaarrrrggghhhh.....don't tell me that fraud is involved and then route me to some moron!! I will be calling them back and telling them exactly what I think of their tactics. Then my next call goes to the AG's office!

I have recieved threats that the "litigation department" for an old payday loan is going to send out a felony warrant for my arrest to the police in my county. I have paid half of the loan, but it is old, from three years ago, and I lost my job so can't pay them the rest just yet. Do you think they can arrest me for fraud when I paid part of it back?

no they can't have you arrested or charged with a crime at all.debts are civil matters not criminal ones.any place that brings that up is a bottomfeeding bunch of humanoids.demand something in writing.then end the call and don't speak to them again.if you get something send a DV letter.send i certified mail return receipt.again,debts are civil matters.if they threaten fraud.demand something in writing and don't speak to them again.

I scheduled a payment with her and then called 5 days before to cancel and she said that it was already with the attys and she couldnt cancel. She said to let it bounce and then I could Fed Ex a payment. I am in the state of ohio. I know that I owe a partial amount but she states that if I don't pay that I will receive a summons.

I am receiving calls almost daily from a woman from this company, stating I have been involved in fraudulent activities and if I don't call back they will refer my case to the local atty. I see here they talk payday loan which I have never used.

I refuse to call them back and have reported them each time they contact me.

My family has been receiving calls from CCR and Associates. They state their has been a breach with my SS# and I need to call back ASAP before they report me to the fraud department. I may have taken out a payday loan years ago with my ex-husband. Not sure whether it has been paid or not. However, I have not moved or even changed my phone number. My employer is the same. Why are they not sending me anything in the mail or even trying to call me? Why would they call relatives? Can they really take legal action against someone?

No Debt Collection agency can have you arrested period.... Nor can they threaten you with a legal action that is not enforcable or well...legal. These are just scare tactics to get money out of you.

Direct from the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Creditors and third party collectors may NOT:
* use false, deceptive, or misleading representations or means;
* harass, oppress, or abuse any person while seeking payment;
* use any false statements or engage in unfair practices.

Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices while attempting to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
* use threats of violence or harm against the person, property, or reputation;
* publish a list of consumers who refuse to pay their debts (except to a credit bureau);
* use obscene or profane language;
* use phone calls to repeatedly harass you;
* fail to identify themselves on the telephone;
* advertise your debt;
* threaten arrest if you do not pay your debt;
* say they will seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages, unless the collection agency or creditor intends to do so, and it is legal to do so;
* indicate that actions such as a lawsuit will be taken against you, which legally may not be taken, or which they do not intend to take;
* collect any amount greater than your debt, unless allowed by law;
* deposit a post-dated check prematurely.

Debt collectors may not use false statements when collecting a debt. For example, they cannot:
* falsely imply they are attorneys or government representatives;
falsely imply you have committed a crime;
* falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit bureau;
* misrepresent the amount of your debt;
* misrepresent the involvement of an attorney in collecting a debt;
* indicate that papers being sent to you are not legal forms when they are;
* give false credit information about you to anyone;
* send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency when it is not;
* use a false name.

I received a call today with a nasty and mostly inaudible message but I got the CCR and a demand call back to get extention #1 at the number 1-866-845-7811. States they are reps of and/or attorneys. The voice level was atrotious and never heard such a message from any legit debt collector. When I returned the call (out of curiosity, since I could not fully understand the loud, screaming message clearly) and got the option to get the attorney "you are working with" by name (but I have no such atty) or just press 1 to speak to a live person. After pressing 1 it says no one is available to take your call so plz leave message and then immediatly does not allow for a message because ext. 1 message box was too full... imagine that.. I too will call the attry general because I have never in my whole life been inside or used any payday loan facility. I dont beleive in them...no advanced pays from any type of company ever. As far as my debt...all has been paid in full save one credit card with owing less than $3000.00... so they may take me to court or whatever they want, but they will hopefully end up in jail as a result of their tactics and fraudulent practices.

Just look at half the names they use...Mr. Brown...Mr Black. This seems extremely fishy to me. I talked to an attorney friend of mine, he told me it was either a scam or a debt collection agency, either way they can not have you arrested and have no real power. They use the tag that they are attorneys just to scare you into paying....do not give them any money!!!! They buy debt off companys in the hope they can scare you into paying. These people have no real power to do anything but to annoy the hell out of you. If you have any questions about these bottom feeders call a local law office, most will give you a free consultation and all will tell you not to worry about CCR.

My family is being bombarded with this also the recording when you call them back is laughable and do you ever get a real person anyone? Time to turn tables on them! Here is the company name they told us was involved and that we had to contact them to rectify 1-866 680-7524 Southern Tier Agency. Now does this sound legit? Can you guess what happened when I called? You got it no such business or at least no answer!

I have also received several calls from this scam. The latest provided a family member's name stating they were a person of interest and for me to hold on for further info. After a brief wait, I was disconnected. When I redialed the number, the recording stated it was CCR and Associates providing an extension which when connected stated the voice mailbox was full. This is annoying and needs to be stopped! Do they not understand harassment??

This CCR & Associates called my elderly mother today and threatened charges of fraud on me. They were trying to get my phone # from her. She did not give it to them, but did take down all of their info for me to call them back. She called me in a panic stating that there were fraud charges against me. They upset my mother tremendously!! I believe this payday loan company was one from over the internet and I don't believe they are even in the U.S. I don't know if they have to follow our laws regarding the collection agencies rules and regulations or not.

I received a call from a relative today who stated they got a voicemail from CCR & Associates "Grant Gardner". Claiming they were attorney's and would take legal action if I didn't call them back. Here's what I found out. This debt is 10 years old (Jan 2000) which was already paid, it was from a cash advance company located in Columbus Ohio. I called the company back after several attempts to voicemail full i hit option 2 and spoke to someone in legal. Mr. Gardner got on the phone and told me I needed to make a payment in the amount of $948 to avoid legal actions. I asked him what the debt was for and who initiated the collection. I asked for a collection letter and he said he couldn't provide such information because he was an attorney, I told him that I wouldn't pay the debt unless I had something in writing, he told me I'd be hearing from the judge. I also told him that I would be happy to pay any balances owed on my behalf if I had something in writing and he asked for my address. You're the lawyer do the job you're being paid to do and tell me where I live.

Additionally I called the loan company and found out that I have paid the debt in full in 2002 (two years later) and nothing was due. What I was told was a bit disturbing, loan company sold my debt to a collection agency / or portfolio management company then after a few attempts they pass to the next agency then to the next and next, they have no way of recalling the account because they no longer own the account.

I called the lawyer back and told him it was paid in full and he told me it was to late and he filed the judgement. I told him it was a complete waste of time and I hired a lawyer to go after this so called "law firm".

I called

We recieved a call saying we had to pay on a quick cash loan or we would be taken to court .We had already paid the full amount to another collection agency over a year ago. They ran my father house which his number was never given when applying for the loan. Which means that Quick cash could never of filed our loan with there agency as they would of had our phone number which has not been change since the loan was taken out so they have fraguently obtain our information and fathers phone number. There is plenty written up about this company which goes under 2 company names ccr & associates and sta also if you type in the phone number many complaints have been made. And numerous people have written its a scam n there practises are illegal and they have numous law suits against them. My suggestion ring the company you took the loan out with and ask which agency it was reported to.

I received a call - actually get this - My Foster Parents received a call today about the same exact thing. I have never taken out a PD loan - and I have not lived with them in over 26 years years - how can they pull this information up - How scary is that? The number was 866-845-7811. I called to see what this was about and actually the same thing I hit number 1 and got disconnected. I did not want to use my cell phone so they could get my number, so I used a pay phone. I just knew it was not right, but they scared a few people.

I received a phone call while at work today from CCR and Associates, and as everyone else seems to be saying they only leave messages, and when you do call back you get an answering machine, and low and behold when you get ready to leave a message the mailbox is full. HMMM!!! My call was in regards to my son who has been in prison for over 3 years. The message stated that he was a person of interest, in an important manner,and he needed to contact them immediately or they would make their own decisions without him.A year and a half ago my husband and I moved to a different town, therefore have a new phone number. Very few people have our new number. I am remarried, and my son and I don't even have the same last name. How could they have associated the two of us. This is really scary. The call came from 877-467-3277 but was told to call back at 866-845-7811.

I was at work the other day and when i came home i had this message from some girl that sounds like a washed up trash face saying her name is Tonya. All i could do was laugh at her message because if you really listen to the message it makes NO sense. She even called some of my old friends and family members. I am not dumb like some people. DO NOT CALL THIS GIRL back. She calls and leaves a case number and her extention 568 and says you have to call her asap before some filing date. Its all bs and she is a fake debt collector. If she would have just called and said she needed me to call her about an important matter i would have called her back but i refuse to believe that crap!

This person saying the original poster was not smart sounds like the idiot or probably one of the many Mr. Browns, Blacks, Silvers or whatever color they are saying these days. It is not proff it is proof... Use spell check at least.

As for telling them to pay or go to court with these kinds of practices being used they can go to court to pay their debt and at the same time make their own civil case against the company for harassment and not following the fair debt laws??? So who isn???t smart? That would be you and the morons using such tactics. If the person owes a debt, they won???t pay, they can be taken to court not harassed and threatened to go to jail.

I have been receiving the same kind of calls and have numeroustimes asked for them to send me something in writing. I have asked for their address and they did not give it to me until about the fourth person I talked to. They have told me they would prosecute me if I have not paid it. I am working on trying to get all of this on tape because them threatening to take prosecute you for not paying a debt is a violation of Federal Law and opens them up to a huge class action lawsuit. Thi stype of behavior must stop!!!

I just got a call from a Joslyn from "CCR Associates." She said I was a contact listed for my sister and that it was imperative I call back. I called back, and they were extremely rude to me and very vague about the matter. They said they are delivering a "summons" to my sister. I said "please explain what you mean by 'summons'." He said he could not tell me that info, and that I can either relay the message to her or not. I said "please don't call me if you cannot tell me any information about this." Then he hung up.

It seems bogus. Their rudeness and agressiveness alone is a red flag.

I had someone call Mr Snow stating he was from CCR and associates a division of the national network of attornies and that I needed to call them (never said anyones name) left a reference number and phone number. stated needed call back immeditely or he would forward this to his staff for further "legal" action in my county (again no county named) As far as i am concerned this is harassment and I am sure it isnt legal. How can I stop these people?

I received a call from this company at work, and waited on the line for an agent. When they came on the line, a woman told me to put on the phone "right now". I informed her that this is a place of business that does not permit personal phone calls. She said that "was too bad, we call who we need to call", and I informed her that under FDCPA we can refuse to allow personal calls at work, and once we have notified them of that, they must cease and desist. She said she didn't care what the FDCPA says, she will continue to call until she reaches the person she needs.
This abviously is not a legitimate company, collection, attorney or otherwise. If it was, they would be familiar with and abide by the regulations of the FDCPA. A legitimate company realizes the legal consequences if they do not.
I would advise anyone who has been contacted by this company to do their research first. Please look up and read the FDCPA to see what collection agencies may or may not do. If you geniunely owe a debt, pay it back directly to the company you owe it to. Paying a third party scammer will not ever make it to the original company. If you do not owe the debt, arm yourself with knowledge of the FDCPA and hang up on them!

I currently act as Power of Attorney for my Mother. She received a phone call today from a CCR & Associates on her voicemail. The caller stated his name as "Ian Curtis" at 1-888-872-8034 ext 602, and said that if we did not return his call regarding fradulant activity with her social security number they would be taking further legal action. He even left a case #. I did call the number as my Mother did have a history of bad credit in the past (hence the reason I am her POA). Ian told me that he could not share any further information with me unless he spoke to my Mother to verify her SS # and get her permission to speak with me. At this point I then knew it was fraudulant activity, as you should NEVER give your SS# over the phone.

Please be careful!

Does anyone know out there if there is someone I should report this to, so someone else doesn't get pulled into this scam?

WOW! these jerks are busy! we also received a call from a "Rebecca" yesterday in reference to one of our kids for a PDL she has. I called the company back and told them NOT to call me anymore about the matter, cuz its NOT my problem and the jerk on the other end said 'whatever" and hung up on me. How do people like that sleep?

Got a call saying they had a legal matter attached to a social security. I must call etc etc. Called them and they say it's a debt, I asked them to send me a letter with the account information so that I could verify before any type of payment. He said "NO" to any sending of any information and that companies(?) had sent many letters, I verified that he had an old address and of course gave no new info. I said prove you have sent me anything and we can go further until then this is a cold call. He said maybe if I pad my bills I wouldn'y get calls for repayment, I said that's pretty presumptive of him. He didn't even want my new address, then ubruptly hung up on me. Literally again bottom feeders...if I could I would you know what!

Their number is 866-680-4506 and yes they are wonderful folks.

Grant Gardner is not in anyway a legal representative- an operator with an attitude calls it.
