Ok...I received a call at work today from a law office saying they were representing American Express in collection of my account. I was really worked up so I didn't get his name or company. I just asked him to not call me at work and he said that he had been calling home and my voicemail is always full...which is not true. My Amex account went to united recovery systems and I have sent them a DV and limited C&D letter back in July and never received any information or calls back since then. I called Amex again today and it still says to contact URS for info on my account. So do you think this law firm is with URS or has URS sold my account to an attorney? I tried to call the number back that the guy gave me and get this...it says that the number is not accepting messages at this time.

For the moment, hit the law firm with a DV letter. Be sure to enclose the opinion letter from the FTC, which you'll find linked below that template. Also enclose a copy of the ggreen card showing that you have previously DV'ed United Recovery.

What was the number he was calling from? We can probably find his company name and address from that.

united recovery systems are a pyramid cult. The guy who runs it has a Doctorate in Metaphysics! Somewhere I read the office is full of ancient Egyptian stuff.

Anyhow: check out Budd Hibbs site or this new one, collectionagencyhallofshame.blogspot.com for what you need to do.

Also see johnpfryedebtlawyer.blogspot.com or mannbrackenwatch.blogspot.com for how to handle lawyers, who usually aren't lawyers at all!

good luck

I received a call at work today from Ron Miller at URS about my American Express account. He said he was returning my call. When I questioned him on this, he said that maybe it was my husband that gave him my work number. I told him I would NEVER have called him!! My account is being handled by Freedom debt relief. He said that AE would not allow URS to work with debt settlement companies. He kept persisting on talking, and would not take the number for FDR, even after I told him he was putting my job in jeopardy as I cannot take personal calls at work. basically, I said "you will have to contact FDR" and hung up on him!

What SCUM!!!

Amer. Exp. uses a law office in Troy, MI and URS out of Houston, TX. The law office says things to frighten you, which I won't mention as it is really gross and wrong. URS likes to call friends, neighbors, etc and let them harass you. Out of the two, URS is scum of the earth. The fact that the city of Houston and the State of Texas even allows them to exist is a real slur on Texas. Be very careful.
