When your account has been sold to a third party collections agency what exactly does that mean? It may be a stupid question , but I just want to get some clarification... thanks anyone who can help.. I oew 500 on an old credit card debt and the letter i recieved says it was sold to goldstein henderson and weiss.

Once debts are charged off, the original creditor has the option to collect the debt themselves or by hiring a CA. In some cases like yours, they sell the paper to a junk debt buyer. Legally you owe the debt to the new owner. However often during these sales, paperwork is lost or never sent and the new buyer has no proof that the debt even exists. That is where a DV comes into play.

How old is the debt? Is it still in SOL?
