My original debt was in November of 2004. They have not reported on it since April of 2007....reaching 4 years this month. After reading the SOL, can I try and get this dereg removed from my credit report? The original debt was made in CA and I currently live in NH. It was from an emergency room visit/written contract.
I am happy to get a hold of them and try to work something out, BUT if I can save myself some $$ I would be thrilled.
Suggestions?

Welcome to the forums!
Check the SOL period in the state of California from the following page:

The SOL period on the debt will start from the first date of default on the debt. So, check whether or not the SOL period on the debt is really over. If the SOL period is over, then they can't sue you for the debt. However, they can still contact you regarding the debt. So, it is better to repay the debt even if the SOL period is over. Once the debt is paid off, you can request them to update the account status on your credit report.

Did you ever make payment on this account? If not, I wouldn't do anything. This thing is going to fall off your credit report at the end of the year if it's been 7 years with no payments.

I did make payments on it a long time ago....but it's going on 7 years.
It's the only large debt left on my credit report and my mortgage consultant thinks that if I make payments I can finally get approved for a loan. I just didn't know if I could somehow just get it removed.
Gues I'll just make some payments because I'm ready to buy a house!

If you're going to make payments, I would first contact the lender and ask for a settlement. You might be able to save yourself some money and perhaps you could negotiate a pay for delete.
