What is the name of the debt consolidation company that this website refers someone too when they request free debt counseling and submit their phone # ?? I just got a phone call from a company called Consumer credit counseling of America and set up a settlement program with them and also provided them with my checking account info. I then got curious and did a net search on them and came up with a hit on them that said they were a shady company and never delivered on their part of the bargain to pay off creditors. If anyone has ANY info one way or the other or has dealt with this company I would be truly gratful for any info,,,,thank you.

Hi lunardance2

Read the thread below. It might clarify your doubts to some extent.

You get the free counseling after registering in this website. Later, you can make choices whether to work with consumer credit counseling of America or shop for other company.

I have taken their counseling and found it very professional. I have not started their program yet as I am comparing my options.

Hi lunardance2.

Please call us if you have any additional questions. We only ask for checking because this is the quickest way to get money to creditors. You may also send in money orders. The only problem we have faced is that with money orders we are at the mercy of the mail. If there happened to be a hurricane or the mail was late the bills would be late. With pulling the money out of the checking or savings account we can guarantee on time payments for your bills.

Nobody asks you for your checking to just pull out money whenever we please. You actually pick your date that would be best and we only pull on that specific date once a month. Every credit counseling agency that I have talked to also uses electornic payments to benefit clients. This is a positive not a negative. Please call if you have additional questions and we will be glad to help.

Also with the volume of clients we help 99.9 percent are happy. There will always be a client who is unhappy for a specific reason and we try our best to make them happy. If you wanted to join this program initially please do not keep paying these high creditor rates because a person in this forum was unhappy with our policy. Please understand that we are here to help you with your situation and if you understand that electronic pay is best for you then stay on it. If you would rather send money orders then please call us and let us know.

I have dealt with these people and was set up with a program called "Hess Kennedy and Company...attorneys and counselors at law" Now I have been having money taken out of my checking account for 6 months with nothing in return. I did some searching and found out that they have some fraud charges against them. So now I am not sure where to go with my end of this. I have over $1000 in a "trust" account and no repsonse from this company...now I am behind with all my creditors and in a mess. So if you find out any more please let me know.
Sorry you got mixed up with them also.
Jana

Well i don't personally know of this company but i DO know my hubby was in a debt cons program years ago and they NEVER got our checking acct information! He paid them electronically cuz that's how he pays the bills but we also could have sent them money orders. But just wanted to say NO one ever asked us for our checking acct information.... and i wouldnt' trust ANYONE with that information these days!
Hope it works out for u, sorry i don't know more about this company.
