Due to a divorce, I filed bankruptcy about 7 years ago. :( I did not reaffirm with my mortgage company and eventually (about 2 years later), I let the house go back because I couldn't keep up with the repairs and such as a single mom. Other than these two instances, my credit has been excellent :) (and I have had lots of it). I am now remarried to a man that was in the military and was sent to Iraq. Upon his return, jobs were scarce and we lived on our credit cards for a few months until he got a job. :o As a result, we have quite a bit of debt. We are current on everything :) and able to make the minumum payments but we are tired of paying all the different companies and would like to eliminate our debt and live on a cash basis as much as possible. :D We do not want to do anything to negatively affect our credit (my husband's credit has no flaws). Should we tough it out and pay it as we can or try a program? Also, we are in the midst of trying to refinance our home so should we wait before we even consider a program?

Hi Chan-D
Welcome to the forums

Firstly you and your husband have a good credit score. After filing for bankruptcy your debt is cleared. Now due to insufficiency in funds in your family you have incurred few debts which you can easily clear off through a debt consolidation program. You do not have to refinance your home.

You should immediately register yourself in the debt consolidation program and the debt consultant will take care about your debts by negotiating with your creditors in the right manner. He will frame a repayment plan which will suit your pocket. This site has a signup form. Please fill up the form to get a free debt counseling and advice.

Hope to hear from you soon

Regards
Peter

Hi Chan

Welcome to the forums. I hope that you must have recovered from the pain of filing bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is the last resort when there is no other option left and I can imagine it in your case for filing it. I feel sad that you were bearing the pain of it for all these years.

If at all possible, I will always suggest you to contribute the most in your credit card debts if you can manage it without a program. But the painful part of doing it in your own is that the creditors are very proficient in roaring up their high financial fees and they might not consider your hard efforts for this payment mode. They will try to recover as much money from you in a naturalistic manner. Taking help of the consolidation program will help you by eliminating all the financial charges and/or the late fees accrued in your total debt which increases the total amount of the debt invariably.

The consultant will also offer you counseling and budgeting program which will help you to keep a check on your finance. You will be able to spend your living within a calculated budget and also will be able to save some money at the end of the month. Then, you can contribute more to your debt to erase it off faster.

You don't need to refinance your house for clearing this debt. Doing this, your debt will be pledged to this property and if you fail in making payment, then you might have the fear of losing your property.

If you find my advice meaningful, you can consider consolidation with this company as it has been successfully able to eradicate the debt of large number of people over a period of time.

Do let me know if I can assist you further in your queries.

Regards
Roxette
