I just received a first letter from them today in the mail saying they have been retained for Midland funding llc for possible suit, I have no idea what this debt is possibly for. I'm going to send off a DV first thing tomorrow and see if I can get some information on what this could possibly be for. The only thing it states is that an attorney from their office has not had the chance to look over my particular file yet and of course telling me I need to pay the amount of 524.08 or they will have no choice but to proceed with legal actions. I really don't have any idea what this could possibly be for and I'm not showing Midland even on my credit report. Just wondered if anyone has heard of this law office and if they have any complaints against them or anything.

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Johnita

Just had a seriously unethical 2 weeks of calls & faxing with Domion Law.
My husband & I paid of 2 old credit card bebts with we negotiated with an employee at Domion. Sent the money wire for $12,162. 2 months passes we hear nothing, did not get confirmation of our payoff. Dominion filed a court order for garnishment on our checking account but leaves it on the door of an old address where we lived 3 months prior. We were never informed of the garnishment. They took $12,000 out of our checking acct. Left us with -$1.
How is this legal? They took all of our money... I left a v.m. at thir firm today stating I will file a formal complain with the VA Bar Assoc in Richmond since all three of the VA lawyers need to loose their license.
I would like to start a Class action law suit, is anyone else interested in joining?

I just received a "Nastygram" from them saying that they will be proceeding with Legal Action and I have their authority to defend myself in a court of law. Get Real. Their authority??? First of all I have been making payments to thee creditor, so I called to ask them "Am I supposed to pay both of you"? The person on the phone was very nasty. Even nastier than normal for a collector. I told them that I think they are fraudulent and will report them to the VA Bch PD. I told them I have already made arrangements and I am already making payments. She wanted to know when the last payment was made. What difference that would make to her is beynd me, but I said 6 days ago. She started screaming that "This is an effort to collect a debt" and I said " I will not pay that same debt twice". And by the way, I CALLED YOU. I then called the creditor andgave them the name and phone numberof this so-called Law Firm and they are going to get it straight.

SO my answer is NO. I do not think they are legit.

Back to topHere's some helpful tips from your BBB on Collection Agencies:
On March 20, 1978 the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act took effect. This law is intended to help stop abusive practices engaged by some debt collectors. The act covers collections of any debt incurred for personal, family, or household purposes and applies to any person in the business of collecting debts owed to others with the exception of debt collectors for banks and businesses that collect on their own accounts. According to the act: A covered debt collector may contact a person other than the debtor only to discover or verify the debtor's location. In doing so, the collector must identify himself, but only has to identify his employer if requested, and must not reveal the consumer's indebtedness to anyone other than the debtor. A post card may not be used to reveal the collection activity, the collector may not communicate with the debtor more than once unless absolutely necessary, and if the collector learns that an attorney is representing the debtor, any further contact concerning the debt must be with that attorney. In addition, a covered collector may contact a debtor between the hours of 8AM and 9PM only. A collector may not contact the debtor at their place of employment if it is known that the employer prohibits this. The law also prohibits harassing and abusive behavior, including but not limited to the use of threats of violence to the debtor's person, reputation, or property. Also, the law does not allow annoying, anonymous or repetitive telephone calls, or charging the debtor for collect calls or telegram fees. Within 5 days after contacting a debtor about paying a debt, the collector must send written notice that includes the amount of the debt, name of the creditor, a statement that the debt will be assumed to be valid unless disputed within 30 days, and that if disputed, the collector will verify it and send a copy of the verification or judgment against the debtor.

I had a lot of debt and was contacted by DLA that I either make arrangements to pay my debt or they would file a judgment against me. Although there is disagreements about using a debt settlement companies, I decided to do so. DLA has never called me, threatened anymore and I have two more payments to go using my debt settlement company. Before, I did my research and found my debt settlement company was rated AAA+ by the Better Business Bureau.
