We have been getting phone calls and letters from LTD for my 13 year old son regarding a book club. Can they pursue a 13 year old on a collection. What are his rights?

Since he is a minor, the parent would actually be responsible for this. I've never heard of Sandvik publishing but I'm going thru the same thing now with a BMG account that my kids signed up for online. I know with BMG, they require parental consent before a minor can sign up. See if they have a website and do some research. I would contact the CA and Cc: the original creditor, explain that they are contacting a minor and that any future correspondence should be addressed to you. If this is legitimate, and hopefully he didn't go nuts and order a whole bunch of stuff, make payment arrangements and get this behind you. Personally, with my situation, it came down to lawn mowing, laundry, leaf raking and no allowance in order for me to pay this for them. Kids...ankle biting wallet parasites... :evil:

I worked for this company when I was in college. I had to go through a 2 week training course to be sure I knew the law and followed it. I never harrassed anyone, but 90% of the people I had to contact were loser deadbeats who would get very angry when I was able to find them through skip-tracing. IF YOU PAID OR DONT OWE A BILL, then prove it to them and get it over with! I once was told I owed a phone bill that I knew I did not. I showed proof that I did not live there, and they took it off of my credit report, end of story. These people have hard jobs dealing with mostly crapping people. Be nice to them. Work with them, and they will be nice to you.

Dear Iowa Attorney General,

Just writting to let you know the problems that I have been having with Dell. I purchased my Dell computer roughly a year ago and have had trouble with some the system and called to have ther help in fixing the problem. Their reponse have been that I would need to puchase a plan that would run between 70.00 and 89.99. Also I thought that is what they are there for. But know all they want is for us to spend more money that people do not have.
Also they pretty well do not get that sice they would not help I was going to send it back and said that they would not except the return since it was programed for what i wanted. Also I do not have anything stored on this computer, but it says there is no space to store and Dell will not help solve this issue either.

If you are reading this, then you probably have had an encounter with someone from Portfolio Recovery and you are feeling angry, insulted, humiliated, demeaned and frustrated.

This company???s bad business practices must be stopped. If those of us who have been abused by this company fail to speak up then no one with the authority to stop this company is ever going to pay attention or seek to investigate because we sit by and are quiet.

I am writing to say to everyone that we MUST take the time to record statements against this company here on this site, and also on as many Internet sites or blogs or discussion groups as we can each find.

You don???t have to write a long statement when you post ??? but you need to at least document in several different places on the Internet that you had a negative experience.

Even if your encounter was several years ago, but you still carry the emotion inside yourself from how the encounter makes you feel years later ??? then you too need to take the time to record your complaint.

If enough of us will stand up and begin to document on this company, then eventually some responsible entity is going to realize that this company is out of control and needs to be stopped.

My hope is that some local or national television news program which is searching for an investigative piece will choose to expose this company ??? but that can only happen if we will each take the time to write our experiences down and post on the Internet so that the negative PR against this company can no longer be ignored.

If you are just beginning to enter a situation with this company then you should know that everything you read on this site and other complaint sites regarding this company is true. You cannot believe anything they tell you because they lie, lie, lie! And they will harass you at home and on your job, plus they will do all the things that we are told as consumers that collection agencies cannot do. They will ignore you when you ask them questions or refuse to listen when you notify them in writing to no longer call you on your job. They will disclose your personal business on voice mail messages where others can hear what is being said. They will literally yell at you on the telephone when they call. They will say horrible things to you and accuse of things when you cannot pay.

These are heartless people who will say anything and do anything they can to get money. They are rude and will not hesitate to attack you verbally when talking to you. They are giving collection agencies a very bad name. They will make arrangements and then change their mind without any notice.

Their so-called litigation department is a disgrace and if they really are lawyers (which I don???t believe most of them are) ??? then they should be disbarred for inappropriate and unprofessional actions. They will try to come after you about debt even after you consult a lawyer who says they are too late. They will report false debt to your credit reports. They will issue judgments against you with increased dollar amounts beyond the debt amount. I???ve not experienced all of these things personally but I know people who are dealing and coping just as I am with these crazy people.

This company needs to be shut down and their employees need to be hit hard by our national Internet campaign to warn others about them and to speak up about how they behave.

Most of us who have dealt with any other collection agencies know that this particular company is the very worst of the bad ones.

Please join me in an effort to get this company exposed for how they operate. EVERY time they call you and harass you, post a complaint somewhere on the Internet ??? EVERY time! Don???t let them continue to do this to you or to anyone else.

Writing to the Better Business Bureau does no good because they will just turn it all around in their rebuttal ??? so that???s a waste of time. Instead we need to publicly humiliate them in the same way they do us each time they make contact.

If you are willing, send a letter to the Attorney General for your state telling them about your bad experience with this company.

Stop the madness. Let???s all work together to put in writing enough documentation that will enable a state or national agency to finally put these guys out of business!!! Please share the link to this site so others can learn of my call to action against this company.

I was called today by this company and must say I had a very good experience I spoke to a pleasant lady. For me it was easy I know I owed the debt and wanted to pay it. They offered me a very good settlement, but this is just my experience not everyone will be so lucky to get a kind collector on the line. She even thanked me for not yelling at her lol.

I just got a call from them. Will they tell you if you cal them back what the problem is or will thye skip around the issue and ask for all my worldly ID? I have no idea what this could be about.

These people harass me too. I had an outstanding balance with Bank of America and paid them not LTD Financial and they say I have bounced checks with them. Is there a way for me to take care of the debt without dealing with them? I don't trust them and it's less than $500 anyway.

LTD financial services has been contacting me for the past few months on a short sale "debt" that they feel I owe. When in fact, the debt was settled at the closing table!
Now, I get to hear the wonderful voice of Mrs. Belinda a couple of times a week trying to tell me that I've broken the law, that they're going to start garnishing my wages...blah blah blah.
I've asked them several times to provide me with documents stating I owe them - or their "CLIENT" - any money. I've yet to receive anything.
They keep asking me for things. To which I say, "blow it right out your ass!!!"
If these people cannot prove that you have debt in writing, never admit to it!!! They are scam artists trying to make a very quick buck off of completely innocent people. Do not pay them a cent, do not give them the time of day...unless you're like me and love messing with telemarker scum!!!
Though, after taking a few phone calls, I've submitted 5 complaints to the Texas Attorney General's office, 3 to my state officials, and 1 to the BBB.
I urge you to do the same thing if they are harrassing you as well. They break every rule in the book and deserve to pay more that 1.3 million dollars for the crap they pull!!!

if debt is past statute of limitations? dont pay or offer anything. this restarts the clock to current time and can be credit reported again. 7-10 years max in credit reports and it goes bye bye. best not to accrue debts in first place or pay off quickly if you can.

LTD Financial is technically NOT a collection agency. What they do is BUY debt from creditors and then bully people to recover. So they become the creditor.

I was paying $100 a month to a previous collection agency. It was an agreement I made with them and they accepted it.

Suddenly, the other day, I started getting calls from LTD.
When I spoke to them, they told me that they bought the debt and that I now owe the balance to them. I told them fine, and said that I have no problem continuing paying the $100 a month. They told me that the only way I can pay them monthly is if I gave them my bank account number for them to set up post-dated withdrawls. I told them absolutely NO. The rep put on his manager who was very confrontational. They eventually told me they were going to forward the issue to their legal dept. All along I offered to pay the debt via check. I've read about them and how they withdraw more than they're supposed to.

I called the Department of Banking in my state and he told me to forward the info to him and that he will call LTD. He also told me NOT to answer any more of their calls

i answered your other post and will again.LTD is a JDB.which means they are considered a 3rd party collector as they are still not the OC.only the OC is not bound by the FDCPA.

They just called me about a matter concerning a family member. Is that legal? The number they called from was (713) 414-2121.

I am under a Debt Management Program, which i pay every month without failing. and yet these people form LTD sent me a letter claiming that they were trying to collect a debt from a credit card. debt that is already been included in the DMP, and the creditor has been receiving and crediting the money every month since i started. Be very careful with these people

This company calls me constantly for every Jones on their list. My phone message states that I am the only Jones in this household and if it's not for me, hang up. The idiots still leave messages with personal info on the message. I don't owe anyone anything but these idiots call me anyway. I am reporting them to the BBB, division of Consumer Affairs, Do Not Call Registry!!

Well the Do Not Call Registry won't help, collectors are exempt. But also file complaints with the FCC and your state Attorney General.

I was recently employed by LTD Financial Services in the Houston Office. I collected on the past due balances on shell gas cards. I was paid 12/hr to basically bother people and had a quota of people i had to bother. The way Ltd treated consumers was outragous and disrespectful. the payment plan is a joke and the interest accrued during the time if you dont set up a plan is ridiculous. the best way to destroy this company and the gang that own it is to stop patronizing the businesses that LTD collects for. Dillards, Shell, Texaco, Macy's, Kay Jewelers, Mary Kay just to name a few. Stop giving these businesses your money and let them know why. Down with LTD Financial Services.
