Help me! I dont know what I should do.

Here's my situation. I went through a REALLY bad financial period last year up until recently and am still catching up. Problem being, I was so worried about my paying for my car and my rent, etc., that I basically ignored all my credit cards. I have probably $8000 in cc debt. I'm in a really sucky situation right now and I don't know what I should do. For example, I had one cc with a $300 limit. Due to fees since I haven't paid it, it's almost $1000. That's outrageous. It's not like I charged $8000 worth of stuff, 40% of that is all overlimit, late and cancellation-type fees. I can't be mad at anyone but myself. And I've gone from aggrevation to now complete dispair.
I started to enroll with AFS (American Financial Solutions) but I have some apprehension.
Would it be better to just start with them and at least get the ball rolling or am I better off just trying to pay each creditor slowly, but gradually. It's easy to come up with a set amount each month that will cover all my ccs. I can't imagine a creditor or a collection agency accepting $10-$20 a month from me towards my debt.
Is that even a good company to go with?
Creditors and the collection agencies keep telling me that they won't work with consolidation companies and are ready to take me to court.
I don't know what to do? I am SO upset about this. It stresses me out 24-7 and probably contributes to that fact that I'm always stressed out and sick.
Any advice, help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
VERY much looking forward to hearing from you all.

Hi Jamie, please don't feel so down. Have you talked with your consultant about your debts? What kind of program is he going to offer you? Make sure that you know everything about the plan before signing it. Consolidation is different from settlement. I have heard that AFS mostly does debt settlements.
More often, creditors and collectors say that they are not going to work with any consolidation company. But, if that is the only way they can get money from you, they will accept your proposals. In most cases, they won't take you to the court because of the court costs and filing fees. You have to prove that you were always ready to take care of your debts and have been paying under the plan set by your dmp.

most of them run their mouth and say that they won't work with an agency, but if they want their money they will. Tell them it is either that or they will force you to file bankrupt, which in that case they will recieve nothing.
