You basically have two options , besides filing bankruptcy.
Option 1 Consumer credit counseling.

They will administer a repayment plan with the creditors called a debt management Plan or a dmp. In a debt management plan you will repay all of your accepted creditors over a newly negotiated contract and terms. The Counseling agency will negotiate with all creditors to accept a lower interest rate, waive late fees and over limit fees and spread your payments out over 5 to 7 years. You will repay 100% of your current balance with a payment that typically runs about 3% to 4% of your total debt. If you can afford the monthly payment in a DMP you should do it. However if you are overextended and can't afford a DMP than you should consider a debt settlement.
Option 2 Debt Settlement

Debt Settlement is a hardship program best for consumers that don't qualify for debt management, can't continue paying minimum payments, can't borrow to pay off debts and don't want to file bankruptcy.A good settlement company can usually settle between 40% and 50% of the amount owed. The monthly payement will usually be half of what a DMP would be but your credit will be affected because your bills have to be past due while in the program , so i stress again it is a program for people who are struggling and credit is already affected and bills are already late or about to be. When choosing either Credit Counseling or Settlement company please be sure to check out their reputation with the BBB.

( sorry for posting it twice , apparently my computer signed me off so i had to log back in )
