Nova Debt Scam:
Anyone hear of nova debt consolidation? Is it a scam?

[]
I have been a customer with Nova Debt for the past 3 years. I had credit cards with APr up to 29.9% they have reduced them as low as 6%. I have paid off and cut up 3 creidit card with balances over 3k. They also send me monthy tips on how to saty out of debt and educate me on Refinacing, grocery shopping on a budget, and buying cars.

I would highly reccomend this business. I am on track to be debt free (from credit cards in March of 2011). That's hugge to me becuase I would have owed 8 times more money at the old rate of @29.9%

I had used Novadebt in the past when my divorce killed me financially - and they were a HUGE help. I never thought I would again have to use them - but with the job market the way it is, I ended up with debt, to my dismay. I called them and was thrilled that they were willing to work with me again. My debt is just about paid and I can tell you - the minute they are willing to have you as a customer - you have PEACE OF MIND. And, all the customer service reps I've worked with are all TERRIFIC!

yes! They'll negotiate with your company (you would not get anywhere trying to do it yourself) and your interest rates (the rates which are killing us consumers) will be GREATLY reduced - they will be a HUGE help to you! :D

the banks only see debt consolidation program as the same as chapter 13 bankruptcy, but debt settlement programs are not looked at in this spectrum they show up on your report as paid as agreed or paid as settled which are both positive and respected remarks on your credit report.....so really debt settlement is much much better financially and credit wise...consolidation still makes you pay your credit card interest rates and most of if not 100% of your balances.....it tends to be pretty detrimental to your score and finances.....i have found that when making decisions about your finances you have to make the most informed and educated decision possible and the best way to do that is to be a saavy consumer and do your research and compare programs by speaking to people at other companies and requesting information from about their particular program....and then you have to go a step further and research the credibility of the company themselves as to whether or not they are regulated by T.A.S.C. or the U.S.O.B.A which are 2 'GOVERNMENT ORGS' that regulate this industry like watchdogs....they are like the bbb of the debt industry....i have spoken to them before and they are willing to tell you anything you need to know about the companies that are registered with them like "debt relif centers of america" for example....they even went so far as to email me this comapnies accredidations and certifications that htey have through the I.A.P.D.A so people i say all this to say be very careful who you sign up with until you know that the comapny you want to deal with is on the up & up and is regulated and gives you the best options and benefits out there......"SETTLEMENT IS WAY BETTER THAN CONSOLIDATION"

I've been with Nova Debt for over a year. It has been a good experience. My bills have gone down and I can track the progress. My only negative comment that B of A may have a "special" relationship with Nova Debt, my payments to B of A are very high compared to other bills and B of A was the company that referred me to Nova Debt. However, I owed them the most so that might be the reason.

If you got in debt regardless of any current situation the lenders lend in good faith and it is your obligation to pay it back. Debt Consolidation through Nova Debt will allow you to do that.

Yes Novadebt is a scam
they take your money and hand it to the credit card companies and charge you a fee they do nothing the plan you are on is actually the credit card companies plan not theirs. the credit card companies own novadebt.
Novadebt told me I would be out of debt in 4 years well it's 2 years later and I still have 4 more years to pay. they do nothing but take your money. set up an automatic withdrawal from your bank to the credit card company it will be just the same only it will cost you less.

They are a Scam. They call themselves not for profit, but use third parties such as banks to get their clients. Real not for profits do not use third parties. You will end up spending 3000$ in fees after five years, and the bank will still make the difference off the interest. They use the BBB rating, but let's not forget the BBB is under investigation for extortion as of 2010.

I use to work for Novadebt, there are some counselors who really want to help you, but if you are a Bank of America client the counselors are instructed by the higher up's to push you into a Debt Management Program (DMP).

We were told not to advise Bank Of America clients to file Bankruptcy because they are such a big referral partner.

We also would tell our clients that the conversation was confidential but Bank of America would pull a number of calls each month to review.

The counselors are also held to a strict production we had to enroll a certain amount of people each month or risk being fired, so for many it didn't matter if enrolling was the best thing for a client!!!!!!

:sun:I have been using it for the last 4 yrs/they have helped me payup $14,000 in credit card debt/but they do charge $25 a month to make the payment.
They do bicker to get the lowest interest rate for you without late fees, etc.

Nova Debt is one of about 300 credit counseling agencies in operation in the US. They have been around a long time and can meet the needs of someone who is qualified to enter into a debt management repayment plan.

Nova, like any other counseling firm, is a business. Non profit designation as a company has tax benefits and requires them to provide free education to the public as a result. It does not change the fact they are a business and must operate as one. Non profit status in credit counseling DOES NOT mean charitable.

Nova Debt, nor any other debt management provider, "bickers" to get interest rates lower with your credit card lenders. The interest rate reductions are set by the banks. There is no negotiation, just a set parameter of income and expenses that you must meet.

I am making my LAST PAYMENT this month and could not have done this without Novadebt. If you look, they have a A+ rating with the BBB and everyone I have ever spoke with there has been very helpful and understanding. You will feel like you are the only person with as much credit card debt as you have but trust me, we are not alone. The credit card companies would not work with me but they did with Novadebt. If you want out of credit card debt, I'm telling you, sign up with these people. It's been five years for me but again, without them, I'd still be paying off huge balances.

I'm about 8 months in and it's been a good experience so far.  They negotiated my interest rates to 2% on 3 credit cards, and to think I'll be debt free in 4yrs to actually enjoy my retirement years with peace of mind is terrific.  Very friendly people, and help every step of the way.

Agree 110%, service has gone way down hill. I use to get responses to emails immediately .. now .. nothing ... but they are still performing the service as requested
