World Financial Network National Bank - Are consumers complaining?

I received a call a little while ago from an "Investigator Stevens (?)" of this bank. He did not identify the company he was calling from but the call came into my home and my cell from a 214#. I let the call go to voicemail and he left a message with an 800#. Out of curiosity I called the 214# and it was some kids cell phone in god knows what state. He said he's been getting all kinds of weird calls. I called back the 800# and left a message that I was returning a call.
So my question I guess is, has anyone else experienced this? Is this CA calling and routing the caller ID through other peoples phone numbers? Can they do that?
And who else does this CA represent because I can't think of who they would be at this point?

Jeez!! This doesn't sound right.

I will call world financial network bank and make them validate the debt. If they are a collection agency, they have to follow the federal laws. Be aware, the internal collections dept of the original creditor doesn't come under the fdcpa laws. I know this is true, but someone will double check it.

You will have to confirm if the person calling you is from an outside collection agency or it is the internal collections dept of wfnnb

Have you ever seen a case where the calls come in from an invalid or stolen phone number? That's what gets me. From what I read they are easy to deal with, but this seems real shady. World financial network national bank calling from stolen numbers

I think you should call once more and say "Your number is illegally used and your parents are paying high bills because of this. Just let them know to change the phone number"

You'll help another person out of their debts.

Stockholder what's with the sarcasm. You are an idiot. If your such a hot shot why are you on a debt consolidation website? He acknowledged his mess up, but for a company to use shady practices is illegal. World Financial Network National Bank is crap and it is very noticeable if you just type in the name on google. All you will see is a list of complaints. I never asked for credit with them and they had no problem giving me an account with a negative credit entry within the first 20 days the account was open. Illegal practices led to approving credit by fraudulent approvals.

So with not being able to call World Financial Network National Bank, how the frick are you supposed to resolved outstanding issues. I am a statistic and quit paying due to some hardships. They kept calling, of course. I explained that my place of business burned and there were several other reasons. I had OUTSTANDING credit. Now I want to resolve this as I'm at a place where I can, finally. But I can't find a contact number and I should have kept at least one of my statements I suppose, but I didn't. They've not called or sent me a bill or letter in over a year. Yeah that long. Anyone know how to contact them?

I do not have an account with this bank but they have been hounding me for several months because who ever did open a credit card account with them had the cell number before me....I have repeatedly told them, I dont know the person, I dont know where they are, It is not their phone number, not to call me, I have told them they are harassing me ...calling several times a day... and they just keep calling . I file complaints every time they call - doesnt seem to do much. They train their people very well - so I just play games with them now... I recognize ALL the numbers they use. I keep a log. I talk very loudly at them, I dont use profanity but I wont let them get a word in... I just go on and on and on... until they hang up. Several times I have then called them back repeatedly during the day just to "chat" - turn around is fair play. They are an incredibly unprofessional and unscrupulous company.

nancyjo ,Log down how many times a day they called , what time of day they called and the name of the person who called . Also write down the general conversation . If you keep good records you can likely sue them for harassment.

No problems with calls, just that I was unknowingly being charged an "insurance premium" I did not elect. It was roughly 1/2 the amt of my payment without my consent. Read your statements carefully.

there is an incredible amount of misinformation in this thread and I wanted to touch on a couple of things.

first, for anyone who believed NJ attorney, google the 214 area code. its Dallas, TX. not Ohio.

second, phone number spoofing (yes that's the real term) is easy and I used to do it all the time to mess with my friends. it does not run up anyone's phone bill except for the actual phone you call from. so if I call my friend scott from my phone, but spoof the number to make it look like I'm calling from his ex's - karen - number, he will think it is her calling, but all charges will apply to my phone and my account. hilarity ensues.

however in this situation hilarity is not ensuing, and what they are doing violates some federal law, im certain.

I received an automated phone call today. My caller ID said unknown name and unknown # so at the time, I didn't answer. However, a message was left with the phone # 1-800-579-5457. The message stated this was regarding personal information, not a sales call. When returning the call, the automated answer asked me for my account # but that if I didn't have the account #, to enter my SS#. First of all, I do not have an account with wfnnb and was in no way going to enter my SS#. Is this some sort of scam?

I recevied a voicemail two days ago from someone about a payment. When I called the number back it said world financial network national bank and the recording asked for my SSN#. I hung up Immediately. I received a call today from the following phone number 614-729-6042 and the guy said he was from WFNNB and wanted to take a pay by phone payment of $55 for American Express because it was late. I told him I am not familiar with WFNNB and I will pay it my usual way but he insisted that it had to be paid today and I told him I will pay it today but not thru him and he hung up. I called to check on my account and it was current and no payment due. I then called customer service at American Express and explained what happened and asked her if AMEX has any association with WFNNB and she said she is not aware of any dealings with them. So innocent people out there just verify before giving out any information.

My my mother got a credit card for Bealls Outlet in AZ via WFNNB.

She gets calls before she gets the statement.

She has been billed for identity protection which she didn't authorize.

$20.00 late fees charged on to the above mount up.

I've called and been disconnected after 20 min 3 times.

I contacted them 2 weeks ago by e-mail and rec'd information on the ID protection for follow-up. The ID charges have been removed.

We got another call from WFNNB and I told her it was being handled.

Then I get an e-mail from the Sales dept telling me that they understand and that she still owes and that they hope this communication is helpful.

I e-mailed them through the contact us yesterday and today the e-mail section was removed. What does that tell you.

I don't know where to go next.

If you are actually the person they are looking for, it is not harassment. WFNNB uses first-party collections. If you wish, you may read into the FDCPA laws for 3rd party collections; first party collections is not required to adhere to any laws of the FDCPA.

The phone numbers that are used to call are usually out-going only. When you call them back, you may not be able to get through to them. The numbers generally originate from Texas, Ohio and Kansas.

Deb MadAsHell: Sales does not make outgoing calls unless upon special request. Those charges on your bill were from a 3rd party. Those 3rd parties are very sneeky companies, and it's a common concern. After the 3rd party notifies WFNNB that they have taken care of it, WFNNB can remove any late fees and/or finances charges it it is found that the fees were applied to the account as a direct result of the third party (again, the third party would have needed to show an error or a credit before this happens).

For further answers, please call WFNNB at 800-695-9478.

They added unauthorized thrid party charges onto my Eddie Bauer account. I have told eddie Bauer that, after a long history with them, I am finished with them over their credit card bank. I always thought Eddie Bauer was a classy outfit, but doing business with WFNB Bank says something else.

This company is part of LANE BRYANT, BRYLANE HOME< and others. It is a scam. They use an automated rotating dialer and several numbers to call you, so that it overwhelms your call block feature on you phone. Area codes like 614, 214, 303 ect. Do not call these people back, do not answer the calls, DO NOT PAY THEM!!!!

Really... All people have to do is pay their bills. Simple. They are following all Federal Laws given, it is not their fault that you cannot stay current.

They also DON'T have to tell you where they are calling from and who they are representing, unless speaking to the account holder. It is not a scam, trust me I know![samebox:29c6808e65="paulmergel"]you know, yeah right.what shift for this scam do you work?are your bonuses dwindling because of this forum....GOOD!!!!!1[/samebox:29c6808e65]

"Does WFNNB accept settlement offers made by the cardholder? I have two accounts with them. "

Yes, we do. Depending on your tone of voice and the lateness of the account. A little courtesy when speaking with a collections agent will get your further then aggression. We're people too.

who cares if they are spoofing numbers? it's not hurting anything. if someone is calling you, tell them to cease calls. by law they can not call that number. if you have a credit card with them that you no longer pay and you are in debt, either go to the website of the store or actually go into the store and they can give you number or help you directly from the store. as for not sending you bills for over a year or so, if you go into bad debt other collection agencies try to collect for banks. so they don't own your account anymore, hence no bills. man, you're all stupid.

haven't gotten any phone calls from WFNNB (yet, as far as I know) but got a mailing from them today, just a simple Privacy Statement. Ordinarily wouldn't be a concern, but I don't have an account with that institution, and never have. The leaflet was addressed to me personally, and even had an account ID on it which had part of my name embedded in it. It just looks very suspicious to me. I suspect that scumbags like this are starting to phish by snail mail.

I'm unemployed and senior citizen, can ill afford to give these rip off artists $1.00 let alone 428.05

World Financial NNB is an under writer for credit cards and generic name of various other credit cards. Look in Yahoo Financial. If you are receiving calls from them, which I googled and followed a link here, for I did as well.
They do have to verify that they are a debt collection agent to you, they do have to send you information as to who they are and how you may contact them. They are also required to give you the ability to contest any allegations.

I received a letter from WFNNB. Their fraud department is investigating the previous owner of my condo. The letter says that WFNNB has "become aware of my name and address in conjunction with this case." They are threatening to contact the "agency of jurisdiction." What can they do to me? I'm not involved with the previous owners.

I am in the process of assisting my daughter with a suit because they put a negative item on her credit. She didnt apply for it but based upon their investigation they said she did. She was 17 at the time. I have advised them its fraud and shes a minor. They wont listen so I guess a lawsuit is the only option.

EMAIL REMOVED

I have been getting calls on my cell phone from these same area codes (410,303,614,blocked). I have been ignoring these numbers, but they actually left a message yesterday (for someone else) with a 1-800 call back number. I called back to tell them it, and actually talked to a rep who seemed reasonably nice. So hopefully the calls will stop, and this is not as "scammy" as some of the posts here indicate. (note; neither I nor anyone in my family has any debt). Also, after reading through the posts here, I called back all of the numbers I had been ignoring, and they were all valid World Financial numbers (no number spoofing).

I think someone needs to sue them - they opened my account without consent, they have been calling me about charges that they have elected to put on my account - like fraud protection (what a joke) they are the frauds and they have refused to close my account for months even thought I have told them repeatedly - Ohio isn't that far away..

:confused:World Financial Network is a scam. They've been calling me w/ a very vague "message about a personal matter that is not a sales call", and I have no idea what it's about (I have great credit and have no balances on any credit card) but then when you call back the number - you can't speak to someone unless you put in your account number. Well, how do you know what account number to use if they don't tell you why they're calling?!! It's very frustrating - Congress (or someone!) needs to do something to stop there unscruplous business practices
