Someone called me last night - I reapetedly asked what they wanted and the man would not tell me only asked questions - where I lived, and what was my SS Number? I hung up - I had debts l2 years ago, is't there a statute of limitation for l2 years ago?

Well, that depends on your state. If you could answer these questions for me I can better assist you.

1. What was the phone number the person was calling from?
2. Any idea what type of debt it might be?
3. What state do you live in?
4. If you can think of what it might be in regards to, when was the last time you made a payment on it?
5. Did he state what company he was calling on behalf of/from?

Redline Recovery has become my worst nightmare trying to collect on an account that has been paid. They call numerous times EACH & EVERY day and when I finally called to find out why they keep calling, I spoke with a "supervisor" who was rude, arrogant, personally insulting, threatening and accused me of "knowing" I owe this debt. He kept trying to get me to say "how much I thought I owed on this debt". I repeated several times that this debt, to my understanding had been paid, but that just pissed him off more. (Is an IQ of "o" required for employement with this company or just being high on weed or drugs???) I also told him to stop calling my neighbors and family and he told me he can call whomever he wants, whenever he wants,to get this debt paid. This agency actually had the balls to call my out-of-state son-in-law's mother and tell her they would "NOT STOP CALLING HER" until she provide my contact info. (Talk about "elder abuse" which is illegal!!!!) This resulted in a big arguement between my daughter and her husband and has left my son-in-law pissed at me for nothing. So after this supervisor threatened me with calls each and every day until he got his money, and threats of taking other serious actions against me, he screamed at me that I had 24"hours". Gee.....in the movie "The Ring", the VICTIM got FIVE DAYS>>>LOL!! He screamed it several times as I tried to calm the situation down to talk with him and rudely just hung up on me. This ass needs a raise since he is doing the great job of being such **** that his company wants him to be. I fully intend to play hardball with this company and try to be THEIR worst nightmare. Each and every time THEY call me I am going to call Joe Moran (Head Dick) at #716-250-4800 Ext.4805 and see how he likes to be annoyed constantly. I advise others to call him also so he "feels the love"!!!!

Correction to my last post:

In the movie "The Ring".....the victim got SEVEN days.......six more than I got!!!!! Redline Recovery would justly deserve "One Missed Call".

Here is a link to Bud Hibbs website (Mr. Hibbs is a Texas attorney and a consumer advocate) you can hear his impression on Redline Recovery as well as hear a few things from others they have contacted as well as a few ex employees.
http://budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/redline_recovery_services.htm

Anyway, the first thing you will need to do is send a debt validation letter to them. Send it certified mail, return receipt requested (this will make it so they have to sign for it and once they sign for it the signature card with date/time will be sent back to you giving you proof they had received it and by whom)
I'll give you a template for the validation letter that I use (because its good for a situation like this) once they receive it they are bound by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (fdcpa) to provide you with this information and until they do they must cease all collection activity. It also contains a written request that all future communication to be in writing only.

Here is the template:

Will take your advice..thanks!!
Few more questions, if you don't mind...
How and where do I file a formal complaint against one of the supervisors who got on the phone that was extremely verbally abusive, insulting and threatening? He was awful and needs some consequence for his actions. Also, do you have personal experience with this agency? You have sound advice and must have some knowledge of the practices these idiots use.

I have not dealt with Redline before but I have dealt with others like them. What you should do is call them back to speak to that supervisor about his conduct, tell him that it was unprofessional and you deserve an apology, record the call if it is legal to record in your state without the other parties consent. If you don't have a recording device on hand then you can sign up for the forum to use the free recording device we offer. He will most likely become verbally abusive again and then you can download the recording and forward it with a complaint to the Attorney General's office of your state and theirs as well as the Federal Trade Commission.

The Free phone system can be used to:
1. Talk to a counselor
2. Record phone calls.
3. Do Podcast.
4. Talk to any of the 9 people who run debtcc.

How to talk to a counselor ?
Call 800-601-1579 and choose option 1

How to record phone calls ?
Call 800-601-1579 and choose option 2.
The system will then ask you for your 6 digit numeric user id. Enter that.
Then the system will ask you for a 10 digit US phone number to call. Enter that.

Once calls are recorded how do I listen to them ?
They will be available in your member area once you log in. On the left panel. The menu option is called "Phone calls"

How do i get my user id ?
Once you login, there is a option in your member area left panel called "What is my user id"?. Click on it to get your user id.

How the free calls can be useful to me ?
When you use the free calls to record a message, you can use the recordings as evidence. You may use the service to talk about and record problems you have faced with debt and collection agents for example, and then by going to "Phone calls" you can get a list of your recordings.

How to do podcast ?
Call 800-601-1579 and choose option 3

How to talk to any of the 9 people who run debtcc ?
if you know the extension number of the person you are trying to reach dial that instead of choosing the above three options.

Oh yeah, that would be a HUGE third party disclosure incident. If you can record conversations in your state then call them and tell them you do not want them doing this. See if they will threaten to do it again so that you can have it on tape. Then file complaints with the AG and FTC

What are the differences, advantages and disadvantages of debt settlement vs debt management? Also do they leave a positive or negative effect on my credit report and credit score?

Well, I guess I will get in on this as well.
Redline contacted me for the first time last week regarding an old Old Navy debt that has been charged off.
When I explained to the man that called that I am already talking with another CA regarding this account and that I had not only never spoken with Redline before but had also not ever received any type of validation through the mail he demanded to know what company I was working with.
I realized right then that I was dealing with a "scam" company yet again ( I am already in the works with the FTC to do something about a company called Oxford Management).
So, I hung up on him.
They have repeatedly called me back but hang up when we answer so I am now trying to get some background so I can get ready to fight yet another good fight.
Does anyone know where I can get the statute of limitations info for my state regarding charge offs?
Any other info you can give me regarding that or this company would be most appreciated.
Thank you and may you all have good luck dealing with these vultures.

They're calling and threatening to sue (big surprise. I wanted to see if I could deal with the original creditor directly, but the account's been sold. I don't want to give these people my money, but I don't know what else to do!

Where does red line get the phone numbers and false information? Can this company take you to court for something you are not even aware of?

Could Redline be related in any way to a collection agency with the name Apelles or are they two different companies?

Not sure, it could be but it's hard to tell without extensive research. It's not uncommon for some shady collection agency to have many DBAs, Bass and Associates had so many DBAs it made my head spin when one of the other members posted them. Same is true for Resurgent Capital services, Collect America, and Wolpoff and Abramson.

Welcome to the forum Fraud Hawk, I am sorry to say that that would only work with work or other numbers that are inconvenient for you, in order for them to stop calling your home phone you would need to send a written request (this is per fdcpa) I would suggest sending it certified mail, return receipt requested.

Ok so I had a debt on my report w/ this company. Talked to a lady paid it, she confirmed I had NO MORE accounts, or anything on file.Recieved my ZERO balance letter. 2months later I get a letter stating I owe another amount. For the same company/creditor/amount.
When I call them to send me debt validation they say they have no proof, but they KNOW its mine. They continue to call/harass. I sent them a CEASE and DESIST.Only contact me by mail, never phone, send debt validation. Return reciept mind you, and they tell me they never got it, therefor they continue to call. When I tell them I sent the letter Reg/Return reciept, they just say it didnt get to them. They are rude and disgusting people. I am sending my 2notice to them, for Debt validation. I know this isnt my account and if it was(which it isnt) it is passed the Stat of limitations.
So what do I do now? Just keep sending these letters and ignoring their calls? Is there some kind of action I can take since they refuse to send debt validation?

They said they have no proof, you sent them a validation letter certified mail, return receipt requested and they continue to call. You can file complaints with your state Attorney General's office and the Federal Trade Commission. You can also file a civil suit for $1,000 for the fdcpa violation, $1,000 per call after they received the cease communication letter, plus punitive damages, attorney fees (if applicable) and court costs.

I did file a complaint with the FTC 2weeks ago.Since then they have called 3 times. When I told them I knew my rights the Ahole just laughed and said oh yeah? Thats when I hung up on him.
Since I sent then the Cease and Desist letter Jan18, they have called atleast 5 times. So, I am sending them a second one. If they chose to ignore me and my request for Validation, what should I do? They are telling me they didnt get my letter, but I have a reciept for it. Signed and all. If it comes to a civil suit, where do I file that? My state or theirs?
Sorry for all the questions, but really I am at the end of this rope.

I got three phone calls from these people today and have ended up here after searching the web for information.

I logged onto the Government Annual Credit Report website to check my Credit Report and there is nothing on there currently listed as past due/charge-off and I believe that is due to SOL issues. I was able to see that this company just requested my credit report yesterday, with the calls starting today. I know I have some bad debt from YEARS ago but I also know the SOL has passed on all of those in my current state (IL is 5 years) and the state that I used to reside where my bad debt is from (NY is 6 years).

Since there are no charge-offs or bad debt currently on my credit report, I can just tell this company No, I'm not going to pay and there is nothing this company can do beside call me, correct? And once I send them the Validation Letter Certified with Return Receipt, they have 30 days to respond to that and then I can sue them if they continue to contact me, correct? Also, after they receive that letter where I tell them that all contact has to be in writing through the USPS, they have to stop calling or I can report them to the FTC and sue them, right? I just want to make sure I'm understanding everything correctly before I start this process. Thanks.

When you send a debt validation letter to them, the moment they receive it all collection activity must cease (this includes reporting on your credit report) when you request in writing that they only contact you via USPS, that means they must never call you again unless to inform you that they are ceasing collection attempts or if they are going to pursue civil suit (which will be a fdcpa violation if the debt is out of statute (SOL), in which case you can use the SOL as an affirmative defense to get the case dismissed.

Thanks JCEMT, just a couple of more questions if you have time.

Since I have received no information in the mail from them, there is no information on my credit report about what this debt could be, do I need to include an Account Number on the validation letter or can I just include my name, address and phone number? I do not feel like calling and dealing with them after the horror stories I've read from other people here. Did I read correctly in another topic that they only have five days after contacting me via phone to send me something in the mail or the debt is considered invalid?

Since this company is known to contact family/neighbors/etc. in hopes of contacting you, should I include some language in the letter stating that they should not only contact me only via USPS but that they should also not engage in contacting any of my relatives or neighbors?

I'm lucky to have a lawyer friend and plan to go to civil court if they call me after receiving the validation letter, do you know what records I need to get in order to prove they contacted after the letter? Would I just call up my phone company and have them give me a detailed list of all phone calls after the Return Receipt date?

Thanks for all of your help with this. I just want to start out as prepared as possible so this is over as quickly as possible, hopefully 30 days from when they receive my letter.

Send them a 'get bent' letter, also known as a Total Cease and Desist. Send it certified mail, return receipt requested, then keep the green card as proof they got it. By law, they have to stop calling you when they get that letter. If they continue in their foolishness, take them to court and make an example out of them.
