When is a cc payment considered 30 days late? Is it 30 days past the statement date or 30 days past the due date? I know it may fluctuate from creditor to creditor, but what is your experience?

Also, if I am paying late fees on a cc acct that is one week late, is that still showing up on my credit report as 30 days late? If not, how is it appearing?

Thanks for the info!

31 days past the statement date, but check with the company because some have specific reporting date ranges. Mine reports the first week of the month following the late, but as it is due on the 21st, that gives about a week after the 30 day timeframe. Some probably report straight away, call and find out to be sure.

Yes, I believe it does go by the due date.

Once you make a payment 30 days late, even if you catch it up and keep the payments caught up after that, there would still be one 30 day late showing on your report (assuming that it was reported correctly to start with). If you only pay one week late, then it would not actually show as a late on your credit report, if you pay the full minimum payment.

thanks everyone! while the creditors may start calling after a week, my actual credit report isn't affected until 31 days past the due date. okay. so my late charges don't actually show up anywhere? on my credit report? I'm just paying them to my creditor?

I am putting my amex on a dmp this week. I know that's going to show up as 30 days late on my report. If I remember correctly, they will lift that after a while due to on time payments with the dmp, right? or is it there forever?

I'm pretty sure that you are correct that the late payments don't show anywhere, except that they would be included in your payment due amount and your high balance probably.

I also think you are probably right about the amex and the dmp. I think each creditor has their own rules about how the handle reporting of dmps, but I know that when I was looking into a dmp and into hardship programs, that is basically what several of my creditors told me--that the account would show as late until a nmber of on time payments had been received under the plan.

thanks alias1958. I know citibank told me that my late fees and overdue fees would be waived while I was under their hardship program. So I am pretty sure the same thing happens with the Amex under the DMP---once I've made several payments in a row (on time of course).

I'm trying to not rob our retirement money to make ends meet. In a few months, the cars are paid for so our cash flow will increase thus making payments on time will be easier. So if I'm not adding 30 days late notices on my accounts by paying 3 weeks late, I just may do that. Not very ethical perhaps, but it may allow me to sleep at night.
