GC Services or GC Services Collection agency seem to be born violators of fdcpa and FCRA .We go to them to consolidate our debts and hope that they follow the book, but they seem to be least bothered about reputation. They always have people to vouch for them.Their services are the worst but I have had no problems of harassment till now. If that too were added the picture would be complete.

here are 2 more numbers they use but show as Operation div on caller id and traced back to these artists of deception
713 271 3899

and 1800 573 9031 they have called and ask for the wife when i say im her husband they hang up or thety listen and if its not a female that answers they also hang up

I recently had a run in with these people. One person said he would send my letter saying everything was cleared up, then when I didn't recieve their letter, and called to see what the problem was, the supervisor said he knew nothing about it. Now I have lost the chance to obtain a house I have been trying to close on because of these people. If anyone has any other option DO NOT DEAL WITH GC SERVICES. I found out the hard way.

I got a letter in the mail today from this company saying I owe the superior court-California $464.74 saying that the superior court fowarded the judgment to gc services. When I called the company asking what this was about, the lady said it was a traffic citation that was still pending but couldn't give me anymore imformation about it. The thing is, is that I never got a ticket..so do I pay this bill eventhough I have no idea what its for?

Superior court of California appoints GC Services to collect pending traffic penalties. You can visit the site of Superior Court of California, Fresno County for some more information-

http://www.fresnosuperiorcourt.org/pay_traffic_fines/

You can Google the term ???Superior Court of California??? to find out their regional websites.

This company is a bunch of con artists at the best. I got a call at the end of dec. telling me they had my account. They gave me a settlement offer and I took it. We agreed that the balance would be paid in full within 75 days from Jan 11th. So I have been saving cash so I could send them the money order before the time expired. Today on the 28th of feb, no where near the 75 day dead line, I get a call from them saying that the total was due now and they never agreed to the 75 day date. They also claim they sent me a letter, which I never received, stating when it was due. I told them that I hade never received the letter and "the supervisor" told me unless I can prove that I never received it, it doesn't matter.

I will be calling the Dept. of Ed after work today to let them know that I will be sending them the balance of what I owe (before settlement) and to let them know of the practices being used by GC.

Any other advice is appreciated.

How funny!! Same goes to them too. Unless they can prove that they sent it, it really doesn't matter.

Third party debt collectors are subject to fdcpa rules and they should send paper works prior to starting collection activities.

Quote:
We agreed that the balance would be paid in full within 75 days from Jan 11th.

Was it a verbal agreement? Don't you have any proof of this? You can send the evidence and ask to postpone the payment date.

DOE maintains a list of collection agency. if you find any of them violating FDCPA rules, you can definitely file complaint against them with DOE and other places as well.

This is all sounding so horribly familiar!

About 8 years ago I tried to go back to school and managed to accumulate a large student loan debt but no degree. Almost immediately after that my husband lost his job and was effectively unemployed for 3 years. During that time the student loan moved to default status.

In August of 2005 I recieved a letter that appeared to be from The Dept. of Education regarding this student loan. (I say "appeared" because in researching I've found that this company has been slapped at least once for sending collection letters out that look like they're from DOE but are not.) I called the number listed which connected me to GC Services. I didn't know it then but I was now on the fast track to collections hell.

At the time they offered me an opportunity to "rehabilitate" this student loan, which would remove it from my credit report as a delinquent account and put it back on as a new loan. It would also give me the ability to get student loans again which was important becuase I've been trying to go back to school so I can improve my income. They repeatedly pressed for checking account or credit card information that I was unable to give them. My husband and I decided a long time ago not to have a checking account or credit card - cash and money order only. Finally, they told me they could get me in the program IF I made 3 consecutive payments of $160 (one pmt a month for 3 months). I asked for written documentation of the agreement. They told me that I would get a "packet" once I'd completed the 3 months. This seemd suspicious so I called DOE. I was assured this was a reputable company so I agreed. After we'd made 2 of the 3 payments, the person we'd had the agreement with suddenly vanished from the company. At this time we discovered that what I actually had was 2 loans, and the smaller loan was ineligible for the program. I spent the next 2 months paying off that smaller loan, then made NEW arrangements to get into the Rehab program with a new person. At this time I did call to complain to DOE about the problem and was told that it must have been a simple mistake and there was nothing they could or would do. We started again in January and made the Jan. pmt and the Feb pmt.

When I called today to let them know I was sending in the 3rd and final payment I discovered that once againt the person I had the agreement with was no longer with the company. I was then transferred to the "Garnishment" department and a very rude woman. In the course of a VERY long phone call I was told that they had no record of this agreement and that since I didn't have written documentation from them it wasn't valid. She told me that she could see that I'd paid off my car in December so why couldn't I pay this off? (I paid the car off with a $2,000 gift from my parents, BTW.) She then told me I could use the car for collateral. When I asked what for she told me I needed collateral to get into the Rehab program. This was NEW! I told her that would not be possible since we were in a serious accident Thurs. and the car was totalled. She was quite rude at that point. She continued to go on about all the loans we'd paid off and how she hated to have to ruin our credit because of this - even though I pointed out that the car loan was the ONLY loan we'd ever had. She then told me to go to the bank and get a loan for the full $17,933.68 remaining. When I told her that wasn't possible (literally - how do you get a loan like that with bad credit and no collateral even if you wanted to?), she basically went off and told me they would be garnishing my paycheck. The paycheck by the way, that netted me $7,000 last year, so they're guaranteed to get LESS from that than I'm paying now!

I'm sending in the pmt. tomorrow as agreed and I'll see what happens. My next step is likely to be the state Attorney General and a lawyer.

I consider myself an upstanding citizen of this planet. Sometimes, things happen in our lives that are beyond our control. A bill was simply forgotten, which snowballed into a huge problem for me...called GC SERVICES!!! This so-called coorporation has done NOTHING but give me attitude, threats, and immature workers who DO NOT know what they are doing. I spoke with Steve a "Leader" of something...who was too busy arguing with a co-worker about who tugged on his jacket to speak with me about my bill, then this Steve "Leader" told me that he would be promptly marking my credit report with a refusal to pay and he hung up on me! I had made a payment to GC Services regarding my account there...and AMAZINGLY...no one has record of it even though the money was promptly removed from my checking account. Someone better tell me where my money is or I can promise GC Services that they will be hearing from my attorney. They can make all the ill-willed threats they want, but when it comes down to it, better customer service goes MUCH further than incompetent "Leaders" are willing to allow a coorporation to go. I will say that I spoke with an employee, Valerie, who was very attentive and understanding. That was a welcome change from the usual calls from GC.

GC Services handled a missed court appearance for a registration tag issue I had. I was never informed I had to go to court , and the first thing I ever received as a ticket for $1349.00. When I called the court they said "This is out of the COURTS Jurisdiction"!! What the heck!!! Anyway I asked the GC person whom answered the phone when it went into collections as this was the first I heard of it and was told the day after the missed court it went into collections So basically the court never gave me an opportunity to deal fairly with this misunderstanding which I feel was not my fault since i wasnt informed of where or when to go to court in the first place. This was the very first ticket I ever received in 25 years of driving, and I was furious, I wanted a chance to explain I wasnt informed and ask to have the whole thing expunged since i had indeed handled the registration within the required time but the court wouldnt let me. Further ..it actually gets worse.. after paying the ridiculous money to GC services , they never processed my payment as having been received and they wanted yet more money from me to have m liscense reinstated, since the DMV never was informed I had indeed paid. Personally I feel there is some shady politics involved with these people, for onething, if I have to pay a fine I would rather it go to the State rather than 50% to these crooks. .What I want to know is how the heck these people won the government contract for collections???? I would bid on that contract myself , as I am sure I or anyone else could do a better job. I had to write numerous letters to the Governor, the court, and the DMV to get my liscense reinstated. I refused to pay these idiots a fee to file a form to get my liscense reinstated when they purposely didnt process the payment as received so that they could tell me I had to pay them money to get it done. My other thought is since when does the Court not have Jurisdiction???? if they dont where does it state in the code books that some private rip off company has juristiction to discuss my case when the courts cannot. Something rotten here.

They are handling a student loan from me....

Listen to this crap...

So 2 weeks ago, I try to call the 800 number on my credit report, and I can't call it from my area...It won't let me through...So I call the original creditor, Sallie Mae...Sallie Mae tells me I owe $5 and if I send it to them by money order, it will be paid in full. So I send them a money order, but check my account info online. It says I owe $4, plus a $99 collection fee. So I call Sallie Mae back, and they say, "That's wrong, because it is more than the amount you owe. When you pay the $5, it will even out."

So today, i answer this number that comes up on my caller ID about every single day. It's GC services. I tell them, "I've been dealing with the original creditor on this, and it's paid in full. They're mailing me a letter this week." She got rude and said, "I don't know where you got that hairbrained idea, but you owe us $99." I said, "No you're wrong, and when I get my letter I'll show you the account is paid in full." She hung up on me.

Today I found a note on my door, from a woman who said she used to live acrossthe street. She said that a company named G C Services, found her number through the internet, and wanted her to contact me. That it is very urgent! She left me the name of the person to contact, and a reference number. Is this legal? I feel like this is outrageous!

I am an employee at GC Services in Knoxville, since I have been there I have been amazed at the way this company treats people. They are abusive and uncaring. All they care about is getting their bonus when they talk a borrower in to a rehab. They keep telling me I am too nice to the customers and I shouldn't care about their problems, I guess that is why I don't make any money. I have witnessed drug use, ****ual harrassment and regular disregard for fdcpa rules. If I wasn't desperate for a paycheck I would have walked out a long time ago. I am currently looking for something else. Just wanted to let you guys know it is actually worse on the inside.

Be advised that if the calls do not stop to my cell phone and home phone I will hire an attorney first thing next week to file formal harassment charges against your firm. Futher I have already contacted the local authorities and provided them with a detailed list of all incoming calls.

Heidi Lemon does not live at my number. Stop calling and hanging up on me! The phone number 614-759-8325 shows up on the caller ID named "Operations Division". I get so far as to say Heidi Lemon does not live here and then your fabulous employees hang up. I have had over 10 calls this past month from this number. Get your act together and stop bugging me.

How can you get these people from calling you? I only have student loan debt and they call my cell phone at least 5 times a day and leave no message. When I call back, there is a busy signal. Has anybody reached this company?

Hey folks -- if you're passed the statute of limitaions (2 years in California) they don't have a claim. BUT if you agree to send them $$, then the clock starts all over again. If they were legit, they would not be conducting themselves in this way. Don't fall for it, they are just fishing!

i just recently got a call from GC Services and the first thing that they asked me was what my social security number was and my credit card number. i had a hard time believing that they were an actual company. First off, i never give out my ss# unless i call them... and 4 days before they called me, i had made an online payment of $30, cuz that is what my statement said was the minimum payment. when GC Services called, they told me that i need to make another payment of $158... i dont understand.

About a week ago, my husband and I started receiving calls from 713-271-3899 on our cell phone. We originally had the number that is used for our cell phone as a land line a year ago and switched over to just a cell phone this spring since it's more cost efficient and more useful for us.

Anyway, the calls started about a week ago. The phone rang, I picked it up and the caller ID showed Texas and the number, 713-271-3899. I answered the phone like I usually do with "hello" but all that was on the other end was silence.

I've been getting calls from that same number over a week now, sometimes three or four of them in a day. They try and call at all different hours. Sometimes in the morning as early as 8, sometimes in the evening as late as 10. They called three times on Sunday afternoon.

The thing is, they never say anything, they just hang up. It doesn't matter if I say "hello", my husband says hello, or we don't say anything at all but just pick it up and listen.

Is there any way to stop this kind of call? I've tried calling the number back and just get a busy signal no matter when I try to call it.

You would figure if these were debt collectors, they would say something in order to collect a debt. Although I find it interesting that debt collectors would be harrassing us considering we don't have any debts whatsoever. We don't even own credit cards. The only thing we have that we're paying off is our car loan, and we have been making the payments on time every month to Wells Fargo with no problems.

I came across this board because the number that is harrassing me is listed here, in hopes someone can help a little, or at least shed some light onto this issue.

So I got 4 calls from this number this morning in the span of 2 hours and when i finally answered they asked for me and I pretended I was a friend answering for me and the woman said "well her and I have a business matter to discuss". When I asked what she would not tell me and she asked me for another number she could call to reach me. I asked her where she was calling from and she just said "thanks I'll try again later". It concerns me she knew my name.

I just recieved a second call from 713 271 3889. This time they didn't just hang up, the started talking. They asked for "Teresa B...." I remembered someone saying in here that they were calling their work asking for a teresa, so I played along and said "She's not in right now, may I take a message" and they gave me a number to call them back, the number is GC Services 1-877-290-8894. I called the 877 number back right away, and started asking the guy who answered a bunch of questions. I asked what GC Services was, what they did... where they were located. The Guy couldn't answer any of the questions. I asked why they were calling my house looking for a girl that didnt' live here, they said that the girl "Teresa" has called from my house before and the computer recorded my phone number as being hers. There full of shit, no teresa has ever used my phone. Something is fishy. I will continue to figure these people out, and hey.. why not try calling them all the time asking for random people. they do it to us.

Add me to the ranks of people that they are calling. So far the two people that I've spoken to from this number are nice, but out of about a dozen calls now only twice when I've picked up have I actually spoken to someone. All the other times they've just hung up. This is VERY annoying! I don't even know the person that they are looking for. They really are making me regret getting a land line after being without one for several years....

Is a ******* Canadian colection agency for Capitol One Credit Cards I just talked to them I kept getting a call from them all night . I advised my little Canadian friend Donavan was his name that I have no Capitol one Credit Card and would be more than happy to meet his gay ass somewhere and stopm it if his automatic dialer was not prompet top stop calling American Citizens at 4 oclock in the morning . I advise all of you to call this number 8772908894 and complain !!!

the reason u don't here anything when u pick up is b/c we work on an automatic dialer that dials 4 numbers at a time and only one actually gets to a rep (yea i kno i don't like it either but my manager says its the only "effective" way to get a hold of people). the reason you are getting calls is because you owe money to someone to get the calls to stop send gc a cease and desist letter. and for all those people that say we can't call sundays we can get it over it and pay your bill thats best way to stop the calls.

First to GC guy-I don't owe anyone anything and yet I get calls. So get over yourself and have your company (G C Services gcserv.com)check to make sure they are calling the right people first. Last 6 months your company has called and been told each time that the person they seek is not at this number.

TO STOP THE CALLS AND HAVE COMPANY REVIEWED:
1. File a complaint with the Houston Better Business Bureau.
2. File a complaint with the Texas Attorney General Office.
3. If you are not a Texas resident, file a complaint with your state's Attorney General.
4. File a complaint with the FTC via the Do Not Call registry EVERY time they call.
5. If calling from blocked numbers (mine reads Unknown or Private or 000-000-0000) have your phone company trace the calls to ensure you have the right number. This may cost ($25) but is definitely worth it.

If we all keep filing complaints, this idiot company will be forced to do their research and STOP harassing people who don't owe any one money.

I have problems with GC Services too. They seem to not care about the consequences of their actions. Although my situation is a bit different than many of those posted. In researching the resolution to the problem I came across this web site. I appreciate the posting by athomass of 06/06/06 regarding the class action lawsuit. I clicked on the link and sent a letter to the attorneys. I can assure everyone this is legitimate. The law office has been very responsive and pro-active in contacting me with follow-up information. While they cannot and do not make any implications of success or awards of damages, I do believe they are aggressive in their pursuit of this matter and they will prevail.

Contacting the law office of Robert E. Schroth Sr., Esq. via e-mail at gcclassaction(at)sbcglobal.net is something that you should do straight away as the time remaining to join the suit is limited.

I would also suggest that anyone having problems with GC services or any other collection agency, take the time to review applicable law under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. You will probably find quite a few violations by most agencies. Commit any dialog to writing, send certified mail and demand from them the same.

Reviewed all postings here and there was no mention of a class action lawsuit. A google search of Robert Schroth says personal injury lawyer based out of Wyoming. More information please, or is this another scam to get people to give personal information.

My complaint with the Houston BBB was finally answered by the GC Services General Counsel. They deny the allegations. Here is his name and number, for all those having problems why don't you try calling him-can't say the number is real, nothing about this company is honest but here it is anyway.

GC Services Limited Partnership (one of the many companies they operate under)
Joseph M. Van Nest
General Counsel
713-777-4441
713-776-6630 (fax)

Keep filing complaints with FTC Do Not Call; Houston BBB, State's Attorney General.

Keep records of every time they call. Have your phone company trace the calls (may cost a fee, worth it).

I use these as a Guideline...

debt collectors may not state that:
- You will be arrested if you do not pay your debt.
- They will seize, garnish, attach or sell your property or wages unless the collection agency or creditor intends to do so and it is legal to do so.
- Actions, such as a lawsuit, will be taken against you when such action legally may not be taken or when they do not intend to take such action.

A debt collector may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt from you. They cannot:
- Collect any amount greater than your debt, unless your state law permits such a charge.
- Deposit a postdated check prematurely.
- Use deception to make you accept collect calls or pay for telegrams.
- Take or threaten to take your property unless this can be done legally.

Having bad debt collection harassment? Here are some extreme steps you may decide to take:

1: Don't take the calls. You can hang up, screen calls or stop them from calling entirely with what's known as a "cease and desist letter." If you send a "cease and desist," include your name, address and account number, and tell the company "do not contact me further about this debt." Send the letter certified so that you have proof the company received it. But this move doesn't cancel your debt. The original creditor or the collection agency may decide to sue, or the creditor can simply hire another third-party collector.

2: Keep a diary. If you do take the calls, write everything down: dates, times, names and what is said. If it's legal in your state, tape the exchange. And if you tell them you're taping the call; whether you are or not, they'll be more likely to behave.

I keep getting a call from these guys every day and after hearing they are a collection agency, I have not picked up the phone to answer their call. The number on my caller ID comes up as 713-271-3899.

I am glad I read this board first before talking with them. They seem to be nothing but crooks. It also appears they are trying to collect on an American Express account I paid off over 8 years ago. I am not paying them one red cent.
