GC Services or GC Services Collection agency seem to be born violators of fdcpa and FCRA .We go to them to consolidate our debts and hope that they follow the book, but they seem to be least bothered about reputation. They always have people to vouch for them.Their services are the worst but I have had no problems of harassment till now. If that too were added the picture would be complete.

ok, so ive been receiving these calls from GC servies too. ive look into them and found several phone numbers in which people receive calls from them. They are a debt collector for Capital One. i found this by calling them, soundin angry, and demanding the woman (who was frightened and i kind of feel bad for) to tell me what company she works for, what they do and why they call me and dont speak. she told me who they were (GC servies) where there from (Huston Texas) and what they do (Attempt to collect debts for Capital One) then she told me that next time i was called to outright say, "my name is [your name] and i dont own a capital one credit card" and if they keep calling to report the number and the date time of the call.

hope it helps

Above I read STv''s post so I called the 877 290 8894 because I''ve been getting the phone calls from the 713 number. In speaking to the people who answered the phone they asked me for my capital one accoutn number - I told them niether me nor anyone in my household HAD a capital one account number so WHY are the calling me? Their only solution (I was talking to a supervisor at this point) was to pick up the phone when they call and ask to be taken off the list. But I have the same problem that others have here and that is that they hang up when I answer. They supervisor kept telling me to just pick up the phone we can''t do anything on our end. AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH. I have no idea what to do next but disconnecting my phone is my next route. I have varied hours and getting woken up at 8 am when I''ve worked until 2 am sucks!

If they keep calling you and the person they are looking for is not you. Call your phone company and complain. It works, believe me. I got alot of calls from MCI/Bellsouth/Verizon/Etc. Stating that we cease and desist calling that person. I was told by my manager that if I get any of those calls I should take the phone number down and immediently let him know.........Thank God I don't work there anymore.

I've had several calls from 713-271-3899. I'm never home and they never leave a message I'm on the Missouri no-call list.
I reported it to them. The pursue this stuff pretty vigorously for fines.

I keep getting calls from 713-271-3899.
it's that GC services from Texas. They keep calling my parents house as well, even though i haven't lived there in a few years. they won't answer when I pick up, and they won't tell my parents what they are calling about. all they say is that it's "regarding a personal matter" I need these people to stop calling me. I don't have enough minutes on my cell to stay on the phone with them all the time. it's getting ridiculous.

GC Services is a debt-collection company (duh, I know) that is still one of the few independent non-mergered or consolodated debt-collection firms in operation in the US. Their bread-and-butter is a combination of private sector debt collection as well as public-sector debt collection (i.e. collecting deby for municipal, county, and state governments for stuff like court costs, parking fines, etc.)

They're a legit company, but unfortunately they're also getting pretty big and their brute-force debt collection tactics, as made evident here, is pretty standard faire for the industry. Just as many sectors of GC Services may be doing an excellent job, there may be several other divisions that are doing a piss-poor job and harrassing individuals like you on a daily basis. Due to their size and unwieldy market demographic I'm not surprised they can't mind every corner of the hen house any longer.

Suffice it to say, unlike some debt collection firms, GC Services at least is legit enough to have a headquarters and corporate contacts. Google them. You *can* hunt them down if you want to, I don't know how effective it would be, but you certainly can do so. Compared to some companies that reveal nothing and hide in the shadows, that's at least something.

On a side note, this particular number seems to be a number that is shared across the board by several debt collection services, GC Services being one of them. From my research at least three separate debt collection companies use this number. In the US, most of these calls originate from GC Services call centers.

I only bring this up because I recently got a call myself, and know a bit about GC Services due to past work experience.

Dammit..WHY ME!!! I swear this has got to be th worst way to retrieve any owed monies ever! Why should I have to get online and research this 713-271-3899 in order to obtain the true identity of the collector. I do owe on a credit card but payment arrangements have been arranged and are being met.
You would think that with the amount of folks with similar issues that this would be able to be stopped somehow.
How could you go to work every day and know that you are a douche for calling asking for people that dont own that cell# or phone, or hell even folks that dont owe any money.
All I ask for is a simple message on my cell.

I called these same people just now and explained to them I do not have a Capital One Card. They at first told me that the only way to stop these calls was to be home when they call. I am at work when they call. I got a supervisor and explained to him that I do not own credit cards because that is a way to get in debt. And that also I am rarely at home in the middle of the day. He took down my number and said that my number should be removed and if i should receive any more calls to tell them I am not the person they are calling.

He ended up getting his manager Lina 877 290 8894 i yelled at her too and questioned her ability to be merciful to americans and humans. I offered to call her night and day. she said the whole collection agency bull and i then told her i want my name off and that if they call again i will find her and meet her in person and show her how disatisfied i am with GC Services. One thing for sure who ever owns that company if i get his name im gonna put it on a ***

I got the 877 # from one of the above replys and I called them to complain about being constantly called by the famous 713 # and I asked her to remove my 13 year old son's cell phone # from the list... She said she would do so(yeah right) and when I asked who to call if the calls persisted, she said they should stop. We shall see. Not counting on anything here, but it's a start!!! anyone have any other suggestions, please post them!!!!

GC Services began calling me about 3 days ago. Their purpose to collect an ATT long distance bill I had validly disputed for long distance calls billed to my credit card. After the calls I got a GC "bill" in the mail demanding payment of an amount more than the disputed amount. After my successful credit card dispute ATT had the balls to recharge me so I had to again dispute the charges. After that was resolved ATT continued to bill me and even had a rep call me. I explained the situation to the rep and she told me to put it in writing so I did and the response I got was call us to discuss--definitely a circle jerk. After this is when GC Services began harrassing me. The ask to verify my address and I ask what is the nature of the business and they refuse to state what their purpose is. When I insist they then hang up. I get calls 3 to 4 times a day that say "Operations Division." Apparently, they have many numbers and the Houston BBB has a list of those numbers. Their web site is rather slick but their practices typically agressive and in violation of the law. Write a cease and desist letter that states you are contesting the charges w/in 30 days to protect your rights. They also buy debts from other collection agencies that are satisfied and try to collect a second time. Just document and complain to the proper authorities to stop this racket.

Demand an Address and send a cease and desist letter under the Fair Debt Collection Act. Creditors and their collectors don't have a specific right to contact debtors or others by telephone, even though they will disagree thats what the law says. Google FAIR DEBT COLLECTION ACT

It appears that Capital One is buying a lot of deliquent accounts from other credit card companies and converting these old accounts to new Capital One accounts and therefore, making it look like you were delinquent with a Capital One credit card. This makes it easier for them to try and collect the debts as Capital One. hope this helps. One of the most popular companies they bought out was fingerhut credit cards through axsys bank.

I use an automated attendant on my home phone, which saves me a lot of annoying calls, I have special box for bill collectors and sollicitors and the rep, named Jim was sure to mention " Oh and I am, Not a solicitor but I must talk to you immediately." he then left 1-877-871-7717 x4709 as his contact number. If anyone else is interested, they now have automated attendants programs that with the right voice modem and caller-id actually block any number you place on the blacklist, you can even setup special messages for those numbers if you want to really aggravate them.

I have a student loan with GC Services and I????????ve have been trying to resolve it, But financially it????????s been very hard for me. I made an agreement with them a while back to pay them $50 a month. Well needless to say I only made a few payments, because of my finances. I only can work part time. My son is autistic and I do have many doctor notes or legal documents to prove that he needs constant supervisio ,which means I can only work part time.
They told me I could get into the hardship program; as long as I sent it all my information and I did I even faxed it. I called them this afternoon they told me I could not qualify for the hardship program because I work, yes I do work, but part time and bring home $115.00 a week. They should know this I sent them my pay stubs, and all my other information. I don????????t even make $17,000.00 a year and they want to garnish my wages. I said I could pay them $50.00 a month like before, but they said they could not take it, and that they would take it from my pay checks. They won????????t even get close to 50.00 on my paycheck on 15%.

Ya, I do get help from other sources but that????????s for my son and this keep a roof over are heads etc, he????????s only 10yrs old. I do get help from my family but very rarely is it money not big amount $20 for food or to do laundry etc???????

What I really mad about is they said no on hardship program, I don????????t want them to garnish my wages. I was hoping to get the hardship so I could pay them off but at a lower rate.

They also told me to get back into good standing with the account I had to send $300.00.
I did talk them down to $180.00 but that still to high monthly for me. I didn????????t give them anything ,because one reason they kept pass the phone to different people, I talk to 4 different people on this one phone call ,and another thing when I told them $180 was still to much for me he started rambling off their debt preamble. You know; This Is an attempt to collect a debt etc??????????????then they hung up.
I just don????????t understand them, after sending all the information in and all my financial stuff, how could they think I could pay this amounts.

.

I have received 3 calls in 90 minutes from this number, when I answered they asked for Sandra, there is no Sandra at this number. They asked if it was the correct number and asked who they were speaking to . I answered that with who am I speaking to? I was told it was Adam from GC services trying to reach Sandra on a financial matter. When I told them that there was not one here by that name and I had had this number for 0ver 20 years the gentleman did apologize. We will see if the calls stop

hah wow, gc works on behalf of cap1, i doubt half of these calls u discribe actualy happend, in most cases when something seams a bit fishy its cause we are training people and they are scared to get on the phones. first off we dont normaly ask for the social, we ask for the person we are looking for to verify their date of birth just for security, it is against the law for us to tell random people account information, and the reason why we ask for the date of birth is so that people who pretend they are who we are looking for dont get your info. also if we cant verify the dob then we ask for the LAST FOUR of the social. Also fyi, if we are asking for a certain amount it may be because you being a retard forgot to make a payment OR perhaps you went over your limit, you do ahve a monthly paymnt to make true, but if you are over your limit you get charged overlimit fees and that brings you more into collections.
Gc personaly doesnt hang up on people, we have quality assurance who listen to our calls and if we do something wrong we can get written up for it. so my friends here posting, im only going to say this once, if it shows up as that 713-271-389 number it may be more than one company calling you, about 7 different companies connect to a tower which changes our number to the exact same number, so it may show up as the same number but its about 7 different companies calling you for the same person. And what sucks is that gc gets blamed for these calls when its not even us caling u half the time.

People need to calm down its nothing fishy just answer the damn questions and get your number taken out of the system we are not soliciators we do not have a list and no, no matter what you think there is someone that does exist that had that number before you, you are not the first one ever to have it. people are just trying to do their job you dont have to be rude we are not trying to steal your identity

GC Services needs to be put out of business. They have called me several times a day, several days in a row from a 614 area code (Ohio). They've called me at work at least ten times even though I have told them every time NOT to call me at my job. They have left me rude, harassing, threatening messages. When I called to complain, the supervisor told me that my work number was the only valid number they had for me. When I told her that was a lie, they had my home number, she claimed that number was always busy. Wrong, guess again. Its a cell phone. It goes to voice mail, not a busy signal. And I've seen their number on my missed call log so I know they've gotten through. Liars!
I've filed complaints with the state Attorney General, with the US Government (forgot which branch, whoever is in charge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act), and with the Department of Education. Now I'm off to type up my cease and desist letter.

I have no problem paying off my debt but I refuse to work with a company like GC Services to do it. Bunch of low life scumbags. The supervisor even had the nerve to tell me "Well its a good thing this isn't a customer service agency then huh?" ****.

Okay R tards I'm going to explain this once and for all.

1) We are calling for someone who owes money
maybe its not you, maybe it is, but either way
YOUR NUMBER WAS GIVEN TO US TO CONTACT THAT PERSON

2) If it isnt you, then we ask 5 simpleass questions
do you know the person, have you had ur number a
long time? how long? and to verify the PROPER
number becaus there are times that we get
crossed lines. So we will say the number we reached
and you just have to say 'yes' or 'no the number
is', and im sorry for this but we have to ask
for a first name just so we know that we spoke with
someone legit, and if who ever we are looking for
calls and says' why didnt you try to contact me?'
we have the notes to say taht we have.

3) the reason why we ask all those questions is
because it is mandetory from us, we have a section
called 'quality assurance' they record the phone
calls and grade us on if we asked the questions
or how well we were talking to people, or if
we responded correctly. Its lame I know.

4) Now in u.s.a. most of you facktards have more than
8 credit cards, so in most cases, if they are in
debt in one, they are definatly in debt in the
others. So heres the biggest problem. When we call
out we reach a tower in texas which changes our
outbound number, but we arent the only company
to do so, I know there are other banks that use
the same tower. So it shows up as the same number
but its not us. Thats where we experience the most
problems, because after the 4th call for the same
person who doesnt live there, the people who answer
get angry and they start yelling at us. 'WHY DIDNT
YOU REMOVE THIS NUMBER LIKE YOU SAID' then they
hang up. BIG MISTAKE. WE MUST VERIFY THE NUMBER TO
REMOVE IT. MUST BEING KEY! so if you fackers hang
up then we have to call back untill we verify it.
Thats where most of you fack up and just keep
hanging up. Its rude and we are usualy very nice
people on the phone, thers a rare some that sound
mean but for the most part we are all very nice
on the phones.

5) Another problem we have is that we have about 6
different campains to call in. One is for the
west side, one is for the east, central, in bound
you know how it goes, the reason for that being
that we legaly cannot call untill 8 am and we must
stop calls at 10 or 11 pm. So when you say 'you're
calling me at 4 am' no no sweety, that will never
EVER happen, because our offices are closed at
11pm. Now! We do infact get in to work at 6 or 7 am
but thats only because when its 6 here its 8 in
newyork, so we can start calling bright and early.
Our dialer legally knows when it can or cannot
call.

6) This is the lame part, when we remove a number it
does take some time b4 it actualy gets removed from
the system, so sometimes our dialer messes up and
dont tell me that there is a flawless program out
there that has no glitches! Yes we have glitches
yes we do appologize and we attempt to remove the
number. we tell our managers who then have to deal
with it. So again we apologise for this.

7) We work at a piece of shit job because there are
times where good places dont hire. So our job
sucks as it is, please attempt to not be rude to
the people on the other side of the phone because
WE PHYSICALY DID NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG! The company
maybe, the person in debt most definatly, but not
the reps over the phone. And you make our lives
hell when you call us sl*ts, c*nts, f*ck faces,
pieces of sh*t, b*tch, dirty f*cking wh*res, sh!t
eating sh!t hound, or when you

****ualy harrass
us over the phone..or my personal favorit, when you
FOG HORN US. Lifes not fair, thats true if it were
NO ONE woudl be working at gc, and I hope to god
every one of them finds a new job. We are GREAT
people that YOU would probably get along with well
but you chose to make things harder for us.
When we get treated with respect over teh phone
we do all thats possible to help out that person
but if you yell at us, piss us off ( and trust me
if we could yell back oh we facking would) or
hang up on us WHILE WE ARE TRYING TO HELP YOU BY
SAYING WE NEED TO REMOVE THE NUMBER BY VERIFYING
IT, thats when we dont facking give a sh!t, and
we can schedual a call back for 8 in the morning.

So to conclude this, be nice, and we will help out
sorry if our systems suck and we call back muh bad
the people arent the ones to blame, its the fack
who gave us the number who is in collections.
So quit facking b*tching and follow my advice
it'll work trust me.

To the GC Services employees. I realize you are just doing your job and it's got to be a hard one.

My question is: Does GC handle the majority of delinquent American Express accounts? I have a feeling ours is going there (or somewhere) soon. If so, what is the procedure. Do you all demand payment in full, or will you take payments? I'm trying to handle things with AMEX, but if they don't agree, I have a feeling it's going to GC.

Thanks if you can help,

Jen

I have been out of school for a while now and I have ran into some bad physical luck. I was not able to get a job out of school nor are the credits that the College said I earned go toward any accredited College or University (technical school).

The last 4 years I have had 4 back surgeries and have had a hard time with money. My loan account started out with MOHELA, I was in deferred status then they sold my account to Missouri Department of higher learning, I was in deferred status with them as well.

They then turned my account over to the Great GC services. They have been rude even when I was paying a monthly bill with them( I sense quit paying the monthly bill). Now they are talking about garnishing my wages, I work for a University in Illinois and I am currently on disability. The only thing I don't understand is that I get a garnish wage paper from MDHE. Who the heck has my account. anyways GC has had my account for 2 yrs now.

I have not talked to them in about 7 months and with all the crap I have been dealing with physically and mentally I really don't care.

gc services keeps calling. 6 times today. gc services is in violation of the FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT! Section 806 titled "HARASSMENT OR ABUSE" THE USE OF OBSCENE OR PROFANE LANGUAGE OR LANGUAGE THE NATURAL CONSEQUENCE OF WHICH IS TO ABUSE THE HEARER OR READER.

--AND--

CAUSING A TELEPHONE TO RING OR ENGAGING ANY PERSON IN TELEPHONE CONVERSATION REPEATEDLY OR CONTINUOUSLY WITH INTENT TO ANNOY, ABUSE, OR HARASS ANY PERSON AT THE CALLED NUMBER.

GC Services is in direct violation of both of these. I am contacting the BBB and any other agency that may help.
Josh is the employee that I talked to and he is an IDIOT.

I used to work there, crappy place I hated it but they followed all the rules and laws, no leaving messages cause it's a violation to tell someone that someone has a debt unless you know it's them, they followed the rules, cept the drug thing, they didn't even entrance screen.

Ok, so, I see lots of people with questions about this agency. Let me share what I know about this place.

They are a legit business. They are also required by law to follow the fdcpa (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act) which is why they do not answer the question of "why are you calling my house?" BY law, they are not allowed to discuss the business with you unless you are the debtor and have been verified by your social security number or birthdate. It does no good to continue to ask them. They will tell you it is a personal business matter (it is if you think about it) and if you ask where they are calling from, they HAVE to tell you, however, if you ask them what GC Services is, they will tell you it is a diverse financial institution. Which it is. They are not lying to you in the least. They are telling you what they can by law.

Cussing them out is not going to get you anywhere. Neither is hanging up or ignoring them. They are just doing their job.. in some cases, there job is to actually help get student loans out of default by offering programs for such. However, if you choose to be a pain to them, they will continue to call and wait till your account is taken out of their office and put with another collection agency... where your acct will have another 18% charges and fees tacked onto it.

So, you see.. it really is more to your benefit to actually have patience with them and talk to them than it is to their benefit. Yes, you will get rude ones.. however, they are NOT customer service, if you are rude to them, they can (within the law) be rude right back to you. Something to think about there eh?

As an afterthought to my previous post...

Consider this if you will.

You answer the phone and on the other end is an agressive collector. How many calls have they already made before they called you? How many times have they been cussed out, called names or treated abusively before they dialed your number? How many times have you, in the past, hung up on them or been rude to them?

All these things need to be considered, because if you have never worked the field, trust and believe, these people get paid crap to call debtors and get verbally abused for 8 hours every day. Yes, they get in bad moods. They get headaches, their shoulders and necks are tense and hurting, and to top it all off, they have their management teams breathing down their necks to bring in more money. So... yes, they can have bad days before they get to your number. Guarantee you this... if you are polite and listen to them, talk with them and try to work with them.. they will calm down and change their tune.

A decent person on the call makes a collectors day.

As for calling you and asking for someone else... chances are, they have researched and come up with your name as a possible neighbor or relative of the debtor and they are trying to see if you can help them establish communication with the debtor. Again, yelling at them and cussing them is not going to do you any good. If you do not wish to help, simply state you do not want to help and to remove your number.

Cussing them out is not going to get you anywhere. Neither is hanging up or ignoring them. They are just doing their job.. in some cases, their job is to actually help get student loans out of default by offering programs for such.

It sounds like they are fishing for personal information. The calls come on my cell phone from 1-866-647-3068 and 1-877-290-8894. Usually there is no one, sometimes they say "hold for an important message," then nothing happens. I called them back and they answer "GC Services" and ask if I have a CapitolOne card -- I do not. And then she started asking, "what's your phone number." There are a few lawsuits listed against these folks. Does anyone know how to block a call from a mobile phone? What can be done to stop this?
