If you and your computer have ever had the misfortune of being attacked by a Trojan Dialer specific to 900 numbers, you more than likely have been dealing with the likes of EBSI (Enhanced Billing Services Inc) & Integretel (Both are Billing Aggregators) from entries on your phone bill. They are representing the internet scam outfits such as MMI Communications , Information Services and Live Interactive to name a few.
Unauthorized and evasive charges have been placed there by these organizations via the malicious dialer which accesses international 900 number sites. The only time when you are made aware of this activity is when you receive your monthly telephone bill.
The general rule of thumb is: when you challenge these bozo's (Aggregators) after their uneducated telephone reps accuse you or someone else in your household of accessing pornograhic websites, they tend to back down and credit your account (without any word of apology of course). You would tend to believe that this was the end of the matter.

Not so I am afraid, because waiting in the wings, months later are the lowlife bottom feeding debt collectors. These unsrupolous characters buy up old telephone records and debt from even more unscrupolous vendors and go after for what they can get. This is where you may have had a call from a Mr.David or others threatening you with lawsuits, disconnecting your phone line and further harrassment, without fully identifying himself or their client, which is the law.
If you do not challenge this moron on initial contact he may stay on the line long enough to tell you he represents the law firm of a Paul Kupferstein & Associates. Otherwise, he hangs up. The phone number they tend to call on is (905) 474 3535. Investigation of the number gives the address as follows:

Liability Solutions Inc
4981 HWY 7 East
Unit 12A, Suite 267
Markham, Ontario
L3R 1N1 Canada

Thats right Canada, They are also located at several other addresses including PO Boxes, and they are all located in the Markham area. They tend to move around a lot! For peace of mind call the RCMP Phonebusters 1-888-495-8501 or Recol 1(888) 495-8501 hotlines (same number) and your State Attorney General. The Law Society of Upper Canada are also very interested to hear from you. (416) 947 3310. They and the RCMP are very much aware of the activities of these scam artists in their area. This is total fraud and none of it would stand in a court of law. They are preying on vulnerability and fear using scripted scare tactics. Just ask your Attorney Generals office.

This thread has been started to put a case history together on victims and consumers they have targeted. If you are a victim please highlight your case on this forum so that we can get a portfolio of sorts on these crooks, and present it to the relevant authorities, and for general peace of mind. The more people who make complaints the more likely they will get investigated and have their illegal operation shut down. Take note they will infiltrate this forum with bogus victims who apparently ended up paying them after going through the courts. It does not happen! For further information on Kuperferstein and Co. check out further listings about them on this website through the following link:

Sorry - vacation for me. And man....did this thread explode while I was gone. :) Now, I see many more people posting with similar stories. I also see Charline didn't actually quit, still supports her company, still wants SOMEONE to call her and calls each one of us a liar. I also saw a lot of interesting things that I'd like to comment on:

1) A TON of new questions have been asked, but many again were either totally ignored, or responded with the ol' "give me a call and I'll discuss your case". Charline, I think it would help many people if you either answered simple questions or had an 800 number to contact. I know I am not spending another penny to contact your office about a bogus debt.

2) Name calling is happening again from both sides. I think if we are to hopefully resolve this issue or get into any direction of fairness, we need to keep the name calling out of the picture and stick with facts. That goes for guest, guest1, Intimidated, erzeke and Charline. Agreed?

2) Charline, you posted this many pages ago:

Quote:

New postPosted: 25 Jul 2006 19:48 Post subject:
We work on a contingency fee basis, I assure you we do not profit from 100% of the collections. How on earth did you deduce that since we don't purchase files we must then keep all of the money? We are forwarded the necessary information required to pursue debtors. It's all the back up that I'm referring to. Some companies have pages and pages of electronic communications from each debtor! Again, you're looking for something that just isn't there.

You state you are "forwarded the necessary information required to pursue debtors". Your exact words. Now, if you are forwarded all this information, how is it that your company cannot, nor will not, provide proof of debt? Again, I will refer back to Canadian law that states, quite clearly, that a debt collect must, upon request, provide written proof of debt. Many, many people have posted on this thread, stating their horror stories of threats and intimidation when that simple, legal request was made.

4) Before you see this as a Charline bash, let me say this: I do agree there are people out there that have debt, yet are not honorable enough to pay back that debt. That's wrong. If you have been contacted by a collector, and that collector has furnished proof, it is your duty to correct the outstanding debt and make it right.

5) Now, my response to myself: I believe everyone posting in this thread has done just that, and are upset that a new "debt" has come up, yet when the attempt to verify this debt, they receive nothing but threats. That is bad business practice, and illegal no matter how you look at it.

6) My mouse SUCKS! Geeeeez...I need an optical! :)

7) DBA as Cash Now Capital. From what I know, the only reason the BBB of Canada would list that for Mr. Kupferstein is because someone filed forms with that company name from your office. And if it's incorrect, I would let Mr. Kupferstein know so he could get it corrected. I wouldn't want a company like that associated with me and my upstanding position in the business world.

7) DBA as Brian Belmont LLB. Little bit of googling (very little), brought up this:

8) DBA as Paul Kupferstein Barrister & Solicitor. More googling (very little again) and I find this:

2/3s down the page. Another address for Mr. Kupferstein?

9) DBA as International Billing and Recovery Services Inc. Had to work a little on this googling (about 30 seconds), but boy, what I found:

http://www.grandrapids.bbb.org/AlertDetled85.html?ID=201

http://www.state.mn.us/mn/externalDocs/Commerce/Collection_Agency_Actions_061005010742_EnfAct-CA01-02thru0505.htm
(5th from the bottom)

So.....Minnesota AND Michigan. Factor in Texas, Illinois and North Carolina and that's 10% of the USA. And that's all I have found so far. How many more of the US Attorney Generals have an issue with Mr. Kupferstein and his entities?

Ok - I'm tired of this mouse for now. I'll be back later.

Link deleted as per forum rules - Mike

Since you're back Jeff, I will bow out of this thread gracefully.
I thought my posts were well thought out and my questions pertinent to the conversation.

Zeke - by no means did I want to step on your toes. You stay and be a part of this for you definately added excellent ideas to our discussion. And I'll be honest - I sort of scanned through the names in the past few pages, so if I included you in the name calling, I apologize.

Tell you what - that dinner for Char quitting is now yours. :)

Erzeke - pls. don't leave. I know I've only been on here a few days, but you've already been a big help and I appreciate your moral support. There are a lot of nice and helpful people on here...but I bet you would still be missed if you left. :(

Thanks so much for your help.

Gotta make sure that everyone is aware of your lies - no matter where you try and write, people will always be there to expose you and your lies - you can count on it. You know who you are behind the "guest" mask as we all do. Funny thing is, there are so many people against what you write on this forum, that I could be anyone of them. As for you, there are only a small few who you could be, but I predict the most recent user out of the Paul Kuperstein environment.

Some of these posts are getting a little out of hand, childish really.

People need to realize that many people have posted great information on here regarding this office. Jedijeff and erzeke1 seem very educated on the manipulative way Charline, Mr. David, Mr. Sargeant, etc. operate and have done their best to over and over again post this information for people in need of advice to see.

They have posted accurate, truthful information for everyone unlike Charline who keeps avoiding the questions people are asking - ALL THE TIME. She always says she isn't but her bluff has been called many a times and the majority of the time, she will either avoid the question or change the topic completely. It seems the posts keeping running in circles and the same questions are always asked and of course, answers are never given.

Charline never answered Mr. David's post or Elle's - which is not a surprise because she can't plain and simple. "Contact our office" is all you will here, but look what happens when someone does, NOTHING!

This has gone on for quite sometime now. People need to realize they are not going to get straight answers from Charline, etc. EVER. They are being watched by many now, just waiting to see if they happen to write the wrong thing that could get them in even more hot water. All they are doing now, is trying to get everyone hairs up, cause a little turmoil for their own humour and as has been suggested do "damage control". They know they cannot pull a fast one on the people who are educated in the illegal business etiquete and it is now more than ever harder for them to obtain an easy target as people are becoming more aware of them and their scam tactics.

They only post on here now for their own entertainment as they have nothing new to say and as usual no firm information to give us or provide people with.

On a personal note, I would like to say thanks to all the intelligent people on this forum who have posted accurate information (dead on information really), on this boggus firm.

It is sad to see that some human beings can actually feel good about lying and trying to con people out of their money. Like many others have posted, look at the ratio, then you'll know who's lying and manipulating.

Whatever gets you through the day.

Hate may be ugly in your opinion, by deceit and denial of guilty actions are worse, you should know that. If it makes you feel better critizing others, go ahead but that is one sad life to live. I don't hate anyone, I feel sorry for you that this is how you chose to live you life but to each their own.

No unforunately, YOU never answered the questions but you already know that and I am not going to play your little game of cat and mouse. You know you are wrong as we all do.

Good luck to you and your conscience. Your posts are becoming old and not worth my time.

Good luck to all.

Correction, "Guest" ... my latest question/post was never answered:

I asked Charline if SHE could call ME, since my calling her office doesn't seem to work. I asked her if she could set up a specific time to make sure I'm available to take her call. I'd be more than happy to work something out if she'd be willing to do that.

But she has not yet responded to my post.

Taking a shot in the dark here (pretty certain though), "guest" is either Charline or Mr. David from the office of Paul K. As they have no one else in their corner they have no other alternative but to post as others.

Say what you will guys or deny it all you like, you have done it before! This is becoming too much the lengths they will go to - rather comical now!

if you people owe money to any of theses places that you are called on. If you don't believe the people calling you to pay your debt. Then go to the orginal place of debt ask to pay there. If you can not then pay your debt to the people who have your debt. I'm sure the company that you owe if you explained that you want to pay but would not pay the collector would gladly take your money. Problem solved. But for those of you that are just looking for a excuse to get out of paying then stay on this site and keep complaining but its not helping you get out of debt. The whole problem is that 98% of you's actually owe the money and know that you owe the money so why not pay and get it over with.

While I will agree with you that if you owe a debt, pay it, I don't think people are here trying to avoid a debt. The issue is multi faceted:

1) Treatment. Being threatened with jail, court and other threats is not fair collection practices.

2) Validation. I will just respond for myself, but I believe others will relate the same story - if you get a call, you sure would like to know why and to whom you owe the money. But when I asked for proof, I was just threatened. Guest - I ask you one simple question: If I called you on the phone and demanded that you paid me $2000 dollars, then threatened you with jail when you asked who you owed the money to, what would you do? Please - I beg you - answer that question. I have aksed Charline that question 3 times, and she has never answered it.

3) Debt. I did a crapload of personal research, determined the REAL amount I owed, contacted the company and determined there was no debt at all. Many others have stated the same thing - an old, illegally created debt was purchased by this company and an attempt to collect with forceful, intimidating means was used. Guest - a 2nd question: Would you pay a non-existant debt just cuz someone threatened you?

Again - we are not here to avoid our responsibilities. We are here to protect ourselves from an scam. Plain and simple. I have done a ton of work showing the illegal activities of this company. It is fraud, no matter how you dress up.

You are an asset to this forum Jedijeff13.

I wish you luck getting answers but past postings show that they consistently avoid questions.

Guest/Charline/Mr. David (all rolled into one probably) do know how to do a few things right and are extremely, EXTREMELY GOOD at it - and that is avoid confrontation, NEVER provide people with the answers to questions or validation and last but certainly not least, deny any wrong doing and basically say everyone else is wrong and are lying (99% to 1%).

I've come to the conclusion that they were never answer questions and will always live in LA LA land. I will however stick around here as long as they are just to make sure that people will always be educated about them.

Supporters??? I guess we all have back-ups in our line of work when we are AWAY.

Once again, you have avoided direct questions and will not post answers on this forum for the people asking them (Jedijeff13, erzeke1, Mr. David, Elle - and the list goes on).

Why is that????? READ THEIR POSTS AGAIN CHARLINE. They will not be calling you as they get nowhere doing that. What is so hard about answering their questions Charline??? Why must you keep avoiding confrontation???

If you are going to reply with, "call me" don't bother wasting forum space because we've heard it all before and it is getting very tiresome how you continually avoid this problem.

I am going to repeat my question for the record:

I heeded your direction and called you . . . you were not there and your voice mail didnt work, for instead of beeping and letting me talk, it went back to the main directory line. I tried Mr. Paul Kupferstein's extension -- same thing. Finally, said screw it, and attempted my chances with the infamous "Mr. Juan David" again. Fortunately (or probably unfortunately), "Mr. David" answered the phone. "Mr David" and I had spoke before (er, should read: "Mr David" called and threatened me in the past), but, much to my chagrin, he did not remember me. I gave him my name and location (you see Charline, you keep on saying call me with your file number -- but I got no file number; all I have received from your company is harrassing calls). After waiting on hold for about 5 minutes, "Mr DAvid" came back on the line and starts saying stuff like he knows who I am, and that I owe all this money to some company I have never heard of, and that it is really too late, but if I overnight a check (PAYABLE TO PAUL KUPFERSTEIN! a little sketchy I'd say!) then I wont get sued for $3000. Once he finished his spiel/rampage I asked him for one simple favor -- if he would be so kind to send me validation of this debt alleged debt. Now let me tell you, that seemingly simple and easy favor really really hit a chord in "Mr Juan David." I think
'irate' is the best word to describe it...he literally started screaming into the phone that he does not have to send validation and that i know that i owe this money and validation or not i am going to be sued, etc etc. I argue with him for a bit more, and then, abruptly, "Mr David" finishes with "we've hired local representation in your state to assist us, expect to be served any day now." I give a little chuckle and then "Mr David" hangs up on me, literally.

So Charline, my questions are:

(1) Why is it that "Mr David" refuses to send me validation of this supposed debt? Are you telling me that you are the only one in that office of yours that is able to do such?

(2) There are specific Canadian and US laws which regulate the collection of debt . . . why is it that your company feels that it is necessary and okay to not follow the rules?? The statutory procedures for debt collection is really quite easy and painless, and is not really a hassle . . why is it then that Paul Kupferstein and Associates refuses to go by book???

* Charline, thank for taking time to read this; I look forward to hearing your responses.

Mr. David

I am new to this site but I also work for Mr. Kupferstein. In regards to you calling the office and not talking to Charline but then you went to Mr. Kupfersteins extention. Mr. DAvid I will say that you are full of it. All Mr. Kupfersteins calls go directly to me and nobody but me. I screen the calls when you speak to the receptionist she transfers all calls to me. So lets tell the truth around here now. I know that you do not tell the truth. I also take all complaints in regards to the staff and deal with them. I send out info etc. So please do not speak untruths in regards to things that you know nothing about. If you would like to contact the office I will gladly help you in every way possible. Ask to speak to the manager. Or do you actually want to solve this issue.

Janet,

Please do not defame me by accusing me of speaking un-truths. When I called I got a recording -- I didnt speak to a live person. The hit a couple buttons and was taken to an automated directory for the people that work in your office. I tried Charline's extension, and then Mr. Kupferstein's ... both had some kind of message recording, but yet neither allowed me to leave a message. I guess Mr. David stayed late at the office the day I called, for he picked up. And, you may want to check out your voicemail system, since, again, it does not allow one to actually leave a message. Please do not call me a liar again.

I have been with the law office for 6 months. I can not disclose how long anyone else has been under the Canadian Privacy act.
As for Mr. David. Most calls go throught to the main message centre. If it is not working then I am sorry but no one else has had a problem leaving messages. I usually have 20 - 30 per day as well as does Charline

Janet,

Since you are the office manager and appear ready to answer questions, can I ask you why your organization has an unsatisfactory record with the BBB for the following issues?

No Response
BBB Definition:

No Response - The company failed to respond to the complaint.

22 - Company failed to respond to the BBB to resolve or address the complaint issues.

Customer Service Issues
BBB Definition:

Service Issues - Claims of alleged delay in completing service, failure to provide promised service, inferior quality of provided service, or damaged merchandise as a result of delivery service.

3 - Company failed to respond to the BBB to resolve or address the complaint issues.

I understand you have only been in your position for 6 months and these complaints may not have happened on your watch. Do you have any plans to improve on response to complaints, regardless of nature?

Janet,

In the spirit of fairness, 2 of 27 complaints were resolved according to the BBB.

I'm curious, as I'm sure others are, why are you here in this forum? This forum is a powerful tool which is being used to display the negative experiences with your organization.

The phrase "damage control" has been suggested as a reason for all communications from Paul Kupferstein & Associates in this forum. It seems likely that no response to the allegations here will give outsiders the impression that your organization does act as alleged. It seems that you think if you put forth effort here it will cast doubt about the alleged behavior.

It has been stated before, - validate debts when asked and work within the confines of the laws (US and Canada)and there will be no need for this forum.

Well Janet, being as though you seem to be the new mouthpiece for the company, I will direct the questions (which have been side-stepped and avoided every time asked) at you:

(1) Why is it that "Mr David" refuses to send me validation of this supposed debt I owe? I mean, are you telling me that there only people at your office that are allowed to send such??

(2) There are specific Canadian and US laws which regulate the collection of debt . . . why is it that your company feels that it is necessary and okay to not follow these rules and regulations?? The statutory procedures for debt collection is really quite easy and painless...it is not really that big of a hassle . . why is it then that Paul Kupferstein and Associates refuses to go by book???
