I really need some help with this. I received a letter from MCM today on a credit card from Citi Bank. I have NEVER owned ANY credit cards in my entire life. So to say this accusation is false is an understatement. I have read so many different ways to go about this on here but I need a solution that works. I owe no one nothing. I am young with great credit and do not need to deal with something like this. I am NOT looking for a solution that involves avoiding the matter, I have always been one to deal with things head on and need an appropriate method to deal with it that way.

What are my options? Can I contact and verify from Citi Bank?

Got a collection for Dell Financial account that wasn't hashed out during my divorce settlement. Original debt was 1650..they sent a "coupon" for 1500 settlement (marking as paid in full). Once I spoke with them, they lowered to 1200. The agent was foreign, though spoke very good English and had a good sense of humor. I was satisfied with my interaction with them, which is more than I can say than a few others.

Yes, you should absolutely validate the debt before you speak with Midland. If you can obtain something in writing (that you can pass on to Midland), even better. Are you sure you haven't been a victim of identity theft? May be a good idea to get your free yearly annual credit report from annualcreditreport.com (not the ones that make you pay). See how they jive with what you expect to show up. The company reporting your account has an obligation to validate that you truly agreed to the account and debt.

I have a question about this, I was rebuilding my credit and had two cards--Salute and Tribute. Tribute and Salute closed everyone's accounts--however, since this was the case I refused to pay their yearly fees since my cards were cancelled by no fault of my own. These were forwarded over to Midland, to which I just found out on my credit report. I disputed with the credit bureaus as a not owing, but the original creditor did not validate (was removed) but Midland could validate??? How?? If the original creditor could not validate, how did Midland validate?? Anyone else have this before?em0

Most of the calls are answered by a call center located in...India. So good luck understanding what the debt collector is trying to ask you. MCM is a subsidiary of Encore Capital Group 8875 Aero Drive Suite 200 San Diego CA 92123. This company has been sued and lost by two state Attorney Generals offices for illegal credit collection practices.:)

If your bankruptcy has been accepted by the Court, the Court will send a letter to all Creditors listed on the bk. It is up to the Creditor to Validate the Loan. I think they are given a time limit of 30 - 60 days. If they fail to validate the loan, the Trustee, set up by the Court, will not ask the Debtor to pay on the loan. Only loans that are Validated to the Court, must be paid by the debtor. While the debt is in bankruptcy, the Creditor is not allowed to collect interest or add accrued interest to the loan.

After the loan has been paid off though the Bankruptcy Court, the loan and all others listed, paid or not, are considered settled. Any attempt to collect by a Creditor once the bk has been entered into can be considered "Contempt of Court".

Have dealt with Midland, they are not the best people.

Rick

To everyone who is bitching about Midland, grow up. This is a collection company and they are just doing their jobs. They will continue to do their jobs reguardless of what you say. They are collecting debts that you owe. They purchase debts that are owed to companies that you owe money to. I had an account with Dell from when I was 18 years old, Dell sold it to one company, that company sold it to MCM. This is debt that is already owed to someone, it just hasn't caught you yet. Now it's catching you and your upset about it. GROW UP! They will set up a payment plan and report it to your credit as paid in full. Just talk to them and make a deal. They are one of the easiest debt collectors I have ever dealt with! PAY YOUR BILLS!

I continue to get daily calls from an MCM agent who says I had unpaid debts with ATT 3-4 yrs ago even though I have never held an ATT account. I told them him this but he continued insisting I give him my SS# and address as validation. I told him I would not do so because I had never been with ATT and asked him how he got my name and number. He would not answer me. I asked for his name and agency info and the male Hindi voice told me he was David Gardner in a fake British accent. He then told me he was with MCM and provided me the 1800number. Never told me how he got my name and number. Never said he was given account info by ATT. He did attempt to confirm my social security but it was wrong. I told him he has the wrong person and that he take my name/number off his list. He continues call me to have the same conversation. His phone number is listed as unknown but the guy calls about the same time every day or so. LOL. MCM is unprofessional and persistent even when they have the wrong person.

My question for you all is how does MCM get people's personal info to begin with? Do they use a search engine or whitepages.com? They somehow got my phone number thinking I was someone else (similar name but wrong SS#). I have been reading your posts here and it seems they have been known to contact the wrong person or even family members of debtors on occasion. Should I just continue to ignore this agent even though he's contacting the wrong person but thinks he's on the right track? It's very irritating to have repeated calls from strangers who insist they know you and demanding to collect debt. Should I ask them to mail me a formal letter? I don't want to give my address as I am not the one they are looking for.

Who do I contact who speaks American English at Midland Credit Mgmt? They have been calling MY cell phone (we never give our cell #'s to anyone except friends and family!) asking for my husband, but with an incorrect middle initial. They say he has a Bank of America Visa that he hasn't paid on for over a year. It's total BS because I take care of our financial business. Anyway, this Indian or Nigerian sounding male berates and belittles me, yelling at me, telling me we need to pay our bills. I have tried to get him to give me more info. He tells me I have to give him my husband's SS# to prove that they have the wrong person or they will continue to harrass me!!! I don't give that info out. Why do I have to prove they have the wrong person. He told me they will sue is and they will win. I told him to go right ahead and sue and that he won't be suing US because it is not our debt. I also asked him to send me something at the mailing address he has. He won't even verify that with me. I have to give him our information first! I don't think that's going to happen.

Midland Credit sued my spouse for an old credit card for about 10,000 and they won a default judgment against him. Well, later on my husband recieved information saying that he may have been wrongfully sued. Well, come to find out Midland sues people for debt that they don't even own! Well, my spouse counter sued them later and his judgement against him was dropped and he got an extra 2,000 after lawyer fees. Midland Credit even had the nerve to try to attach a debt to my credit report and they tried to attach a debt to my spouses later bankruptcy! REAL CRIMINALS!

Got a call from Harjeed Sings from New Delhi India. He said that his company (MCM) had been contracted by Chase NA to collect a debt. Since the number came up as "call", I asked for his callback number. The number that he gave was 800-265-8825. However the number that I received from them in the mail was 888 327-7774. I asked for him to send me a letter in the mail with his name, address, supervisors name, CEO's name and business ID number. I will be waiting in the mail for all of this indo so that I can file a claim with the FTC for violations of the FDCPA. These people are not authorized to put my number on "speed" dial and call several times for this "alleged" debt. They have several addresses that they work with but the calls I got came from India? Something does not smell right!

I had the honor of dealing with MCM's "customer service" today. We settled our day 3 weeks ago for an 8 year old debt my ex wife ran up on a phone bill, not my fault but hurt my credit so I payed. They never provided a receipt, stopped answering my calls, sent me to voicemail even when I could hear my account manager was in the same room as the person I was talking to, were extremely abrasive and verbally abusive.... and to top it off they tried to charge my debit card without asking. Luckily the bank caught the fraudulent charge in time, but when I called once again to see what the heck was going on they yelled at us, actually YELLED at us... very strange. We have a police report in now and a lawyer working on a case against them.

MIDLAND MORONS took my payment out of THE WRONG ACCOUNT, not once mind you, TWICE!!!! THAT'S DOUBLE THE PAYMENT I'M IN THE HOLE.
Yeah, I tried to work with MIDLAND with my debt becuase I LOST MY JOB. So not everyone has the same issues, like, not paying a cell phone bill becuase I was young and naive.
MIDLAND screwed up while I was trying to be responsible. PERIOD.
For payments, send a registered check or money order. DO NOT pay over the phone with your own personal account number, credit card, etc... They have it on file. If they screw up, then unfortunately you get screwed also. :-x
What should I do? Please and thank you.

Yes I agree that everyone should pay there bills, but when these people call telling you that you owe money on a credit card that has been paid every month on time and paying more than the minimum amount, and also giving false information something is totally wrong. This company is a fraud and if I found out that they have been screwing with my credit then they will be the ones served with a summons to appear in court!

Sounds like the person telling people to "grow up" and "this is just your debt catching up to you" is an employee of Midland... I was contacted about a debt I have never incurred with a company I've never had dealings with... In order to have posted here you had to have searched for the company name and wanted more info...

What kind of fools get on here and try to say they are legit? For crying out loud, they can't even show respect by using lower case letters! And then they expect us to believe they don't harass people. I tried to be reasonable with them, via phone and letter, but NO GO on that. Then they tried suing me, but my attorney got them to drop their case before a court date could be set. Haven't heard word one on that supposed debt. Moral of this message, Fight back against Midland and don't let them bully you. The more they have to work the less they likely they will pursue the matter. Don't get panicky or afraid of their threats!!!

I recieved a bill in the mail today. no previous letter no nothing. It says I owe them $866.34 and I KNOW for a fact that I don't owe NOBODY anything! It says the original creditor was GE money bank. I've NEVER done business with them ever. The only credit card that I have is through my personal bank. I am only 22 years old and have only had my ONE credit card for a year. I always pay my bills in full trying to get my credit up so i can actually survive and buy a car. This is BULLSHIT! and I don't know what to do...I don't have time for this. I'm trying to get my life on track. Could this be identity theft? if so what the hell do i do to fix it?

:(OK,
Here is my story MCM has posted negative info on wife's credit report. they used her SS number but a guy's name which is close to my wife's name but not the same for a tmobile cell phone account. I called and got a guy who admitted he was in India and explained it to him and he said he would transfer me to the complaint department after being on hold for 30 mins I hung up and called back and got another guy in India and he said he can do nothing as he is not in the USA. What can I do now? I disputed on credit report and supposedly MCM validated debt with them. But, I understand they use eOscar to validate and don't even actually have to show proof to bureau. What can I do now we are trying to get a mortgage and this is stopping it.

What if they have called me and have verified that the account being collected was for some company in which there is debt, but in february of last year I had made a final payment to that company ( not midland) and had requested that account be closed, fully aware of the cancellation fees, but the account was not closed and another three months of service charges were rendered plus the cancellation fees and now I am being collected for this. Could I still mail off the verification request?

For every body notice that i am part of midland credit management and would like to share that mcm is a legitimate company with being registered with the better business beureaus and the NASDAQ and we primarily known as encore capital as been rated as one of the most admired companies which i proudly say that is the 2nd largest debt collection company in the United States having different sites within the US. We consumers forget onething that is taking care of our responsibilities on time and blame everything on the debt collector. No my friends we go wrong about one thing and that is taking care of an obligation that if you think that you actualy obligated towards taking care of a past due debt then we often tend to escape certain things(bills) to take care off!. I would like to share that we as a company believe in consumer centricity.:)

I would like to share one thing importantly that who ever called you from mcm make sure that you also id yourself as answer the person's questions to make sure if the person calling from mcm is talking to the wright prson or not. Until if there is a one way conversation then things wont be resolved and you might keep receiving such calls. If the person is also able to receive is answers on time and you too are getting your answers by the same time and if the person is you who ever is looking for a particular person calling from mcm. Make sure that are answers being given from both ends.:)

It was cleared now all of a sudden I get notice for this company asking for money and there is no phone number to call. I am very agressive person on the phone, I called verizon first they said the account was closed and sold they had no info call the company, I call them I get Rose Anderson ID # DZ1, first I dont think its her real name. 2 I asked her do you have information on this paid account she stated that i had to dispute the charge and they need to contact verizon. Well my question was a yes or no answer she could not answer the question. so I am sending a letter to stop sending me notices. Between verizon and this compnay someone will be sued by me!

I hung up called back and requested to speak to a mgr, i then spoke to a daniel, who was horrible and could barely speak english, he cut me off and blind transferred me to someone in arizona, that rep gave me the right mgr name which is gabriel and his ext.... I called back and of course got snt to gabriels vm, i left a msg and i will be filing a complaint with the ag and the ftc.. I am a debt collector myself, so i knw the laws!!!! I have been getting 25 calls a day from a blocked telephone number. A lady called me early this morning and also this evening saying I owe a $350 T-Mobile bill. I disputed that and she wouldn't tell me anything about where the bill originated or how they came about taking it over.

She said I needed to pay it ASAP and tried to get me to give her my bank account information. She aslo said if I didn't have that I could give her a Walmart prepaid card number but that I definitely could not send her a check, cashier's check or money order because it would take to long to receive that. She proceeded to try to schedule a payment arrangement which at first was the next two days, then she extended it to a month, then two months and then to four months, but that she would be calling ASAP to get the payment method I was going to pay as they had to have that before they started anything. I could tell she was not the least bit interested in payment arrangements but in actually getting my payment information such as account numbers.

She had my address but was one digit off. And like an idiot I corrected her so now she has my whole address. Again, she said she would mail me a form that has the payment arrangements on it, but nothing to do with the original debit or where it came from.

In my opinion Midland Credit is a scam. The lady I spoke with also did not speak good English and sounded like she was calling from another country.

Please anyone beware of this company and do not give them any information over the telephone!

I just got the number for them from this forum site and I requested they not call me ever again. They said that they can call me as long as they like.

I said I will contact the District Attorneys office and they said go ahead they are not doing anything wrong and they will call me as many times as they like.

Something needs to be done about this company. They call me out of the blue and say I need to pay a debt I know nothing about and I need to pay ASAP and try to get my bank account information over the phone. First of all I don't know what debt they are even talking about and they call all day long!

Why are they being allowed to do this! I have never seen anyone try to pressure someone into giving them their bank information as much as these people. They are calling from India. What is going on?!

Thanks Soaplady. I am sending a Debt Validation Request letter today and also contacting all three credit bureaus to notify them and have them take it off my credit reports.

Also, I lodged a complaint with the BBB.

This fraudulent company needs to be shut down.

They call several times per day...the debt they are talking about is now over 12 years ago...made payments to former agency that told me this was settled because we paid most of the debt already. This guy from India called Sunday morning at 8:00, was rude and threatening. I told him we were on our way to church, (absolutely true) but he kept me on the phone for 20 minutes. I asked 5 times for a letter of verification, but no luck...he wanted an immediate payment and continued to intimidate me until I said I would call him back. Today is Tuesday, no call on Monday, but I'm sure we'll hear back soon:confused:

I just spoke with a rep today in my letter I received it says "pay $250 or call and see how to qualify for discounts and affordable payment plans." I called the lady & she was rude she said "this is an affordable payment plan, and if you don't pay we will send it to an attorney in your state who will prosecute you for non-payment." The problem I have is 1) don't threaten me! 2) if your letter says call to set up an affordable payment plan then follow through with your advertised statement, otherwise it is considered false advertisement. 3) I want to pay my debt or I would not have contacted MCM. All I ask is set up a payment plan that is affordable to my standards not MCM's. Last and foremost don't threaten me with prosecution! I am a poor lady and have nothing to lose but MCM is wealthy and has a lot to lose in a lawsuit for threatening the innocent consumer!

If you try to call any of the Midland numbers they will route you to India. They will not let you talk to anyone in the U.S. and they are very rude when you ask to speak to a manager. THis is a bad company to deal with as they do not have American based Customer Service. And if you are paying the account for your Ex they want her to tell them thye can talk to you no matter how many times you call to get information. IT's a rip off

Hi all! Sorry to hear there are so many people who are going thru this nightmare with this company. I know that one of the accts I had was around $1600 owed and now it's showing at over $3k! I haven't paid in about 3 years and the debt is now off my cbr and since it's been 3 yrs since last payment, they can't sue b/c it's past the statute of limitations. I still get a letter from them each month with the bal and their offer to 'help' me fix my finances but they also state at the bottom that due to the age of the debt, they cannot sue me. Has anyone else received a letter from them with that verbiage. They haven't called me in years; they just send that 1 letter to me each month.

If they aren't a legitimate company, how are they able to take people to court? They call my job at least several times a day. They leave no messages. I finally received a letter regarding an old debt, but right now can't afford to pay anything.
