GC Services: Customer feedback and tips to deal with collection calls

Are you kidding me? No Way. The best way to deal with these idiots is to not talk to them, not give them even a shred of information to use against you. They are not going to play fair. The more you cooperate with them, the more they will take advantage of you. Don't believe a word they say. They are liars, snakes in the grass. They prey on the innocent. They called me looking for a relative that lives in Arizona. I am stationed in NC and that relative has never been here or visited. They just saw "googled" the last name and figured that they could call and harrass me and that I would gather personal information on that person for them. They have called neighbors and asked them to go leave messages for people "HARRASSMENT". If you give them your social Security #, they will attach it to someone else's debt and try to collect the debt from you even if you don't know the person. My best advice is to not cooperate at all with these crooks and scammers. If you owe a debt then pay it to whoever you owe. Don't give anything to these people. It amazes me how they get away with their scam. I wish congress would secure our information. Anybody can find out any information on anyone on the internet. So much for privacy. Congress!!!! pass some meaningful legislation for a change and outlaw the gathering of personal information for databases. You have sold out our right to privacy so someone can make a buck. Are we going to continue to stand for this? I don't know about you but it infuriates me. So much for anti terrorism. If you feel safe it is a false sense of security. The terrorist's have their own databases which are loaded with information on us gathered off the internet. The scam artists are the least of our worries. Gunnery Sergeant G USMC

Need quick advice
:confused:Hi,
I"m dealing with them over a turing in my Toyota this past spring. So far my outstanding debt is 10,999.00... first I received a letter from them stating if I paid off the total balance of 7500.00 the debt would be cleared.. .then last night this Mr. Butts told me if I paid off the balance of 5400.00 the debt would be cleared and I had one week to do this.. my question is..should I take this offer? or if I hold out will they go down even less?. I do not have the money and will have to have a family member co-sign. Also, as I told him on the phone many times, I own nothing and being unemployed for over a year and now working at 50% less of what I was earning I have nothing of value. So take me to court.. So if anyone can shed some light it would be great .

Have you ever ask for any paperwork? They are not required to send you anything unless you ask for it. Since you are in default, you are not entitled to billing statements.
Of course the money is being deducted. All payments on DOE are drafted to or sent to the DOE payment processing center.

I also have been receiving calls from GC Services but mine are from 877-292-2584. Does anyone have an address for this company? I would so like to send them a letter because I have no idea why they are contacting me and I HATE talking to any collection agency!

My wife got a red light ticket in July 08. We moved before we got the ticket in the mail, and by the time things got sorted out, the fine had doubled and went to GC services for collection. I set up a payment plan with them before following up with the court. Because the ticket was in my name but it was clearly my wife driving, the court reissued the ticket and the fine was reduced to the original amount. We put a stop payment on the check to GC services. (I don't remember if I extended them a courtesy call). We paid the court in full and they told us not to worry about GC services. 8 months later and no records kept, I get a call from GC services. They were very forceful about making a payment and would not help by give me any of the pertinent information I needed to fill the gaps in my records. "This is a court judgment about a debt you owed the court and legally binding. You can wait for the next statement." She refused to forward the information sooner or give me any clues about the original debt that I might use to prove my case. However, when I called back with proof of payment of the orignial debt from my bank statements, they were quite helpful to resolve the issue.

GC Services is a Texas based Company , The Collection laws in Texas are almost non existent. I work as a debt Broker and deal with Collection companies all the time, When a company like this starts yelling and screaming it is a sign of desperation because they do not have what they need by law to sue you or do any of the many things they will threaten you with. When GC Services went after a member of my family I called them, they tried yelling and screaming at me demanding all sorts of forms I did not need to provide them. after I mentioned a few basic rules/laws under the "fair debt collection practices act" I do not expect to hear from them again.
Companies that yell, scream and threaten are very profitable and they make allot of money because most they go after do not know Collection Law and pay these companies because they think these companies can do the things they say they can do! These companies can not afford to face any legal action and once they know you know your rights will run away.
Gc services criminals
GC Services is most annoying group of people I ever had to deal with. They call my home at least 2 times a day usually around noon and 7 pm. They are looking for my exwife of 11 years. I told those Mother Fers that I have no contact or infor about her but
MZ. TROUTMAN dosent seem to believe me!!! I hope they are proud of the fact that they are harassing an innocent person!!!!!!!!!!
impossibly rude people at gc services
I have a student loan in default. YES IT IS MY OWN FAULT!!! I have not heard from ANYONE in years about this debt. Three months ago, I contacted the US Dept of Ed. and they told me that it had been turned over to GC Services... so I contacted them. The case manager was very polite and helpful. She set me up with a payment plan (of course it meant a monthly payment slightly higher than I could afford and it was deducted directly from my checking account). The case manager, Michelle Miller, told me if there were ever a problem and the money wouldn't be in the account, I would just need to call no later than 3 days before the payment date. Last month, I called, explained I had almost died, was out of work and the money would not be in the account. She transfered me to a manager (didn't get his name) who told me I HAD to have the money by that date. When I explained there was no way possible for me to come up with it, he DEMANDED I ask someone to co-sign a loan for me. While TRYING to explain I had no one who could do that, he told me I was just assuming that and it was not a FACT that I didn't have someone willing to consign (he even offered to get a dictionary and give me the definition of FACT since I said I knew for a FACT that no one would cosign.) He was beyond rude and wouldn't let me say anything without talking over me and calling me a liar. I never got rude, or raised my voice, but did ask to speak to another manager.... which he refused to let me do. After 20 minutes of listening to him tell me I was a liar and unwiling to solve my debt (NOT TRUE... just couldn't make a payment at that particular time) I hung up. CG Services then tried to take the money out of my checking account (it wasn't there) which caused me to overdraft (twice) at a charge of $35 per overdraft and $5 a day I'm overdrawn.... resulting in my account now being -$180. Since the "check" bounced, I have received at least 5 calls per day from Michelle Miller.... sometimes the calls come at 6:00 AM other times they call at 10:30PM. I spoke today to the same rude manager who again told me to get a cosigner, and pay off the loan. He again called me a liar, and told me I was incompetent, and again I hung up on him.
now my letter is drafted for a cease and desist but I can't find out who the rude jerk was who I spoke to. Any suggestions on what to do now??///

I made a payment arrangement on an old debt. However, I did NOT give them my checking info. Instead I send a money order. I've heard stories of these agencies trying to withdraw money when it was not approved.
Close out your checking acocunt, open a new one, but DO NOT give it to them. Instead send them money orders certified mail, with return receipt

Ignore that advice please. Student loan contracts are highly sought after and they can loose the acccount for withdrawing funds willy nilly and without authorization. Offices that handle student loans are seperate facilities from consumer debt collections under high security. You will have no problem with them doing direct withdrawal.

Hello everyone, I used to work in collections and i just thought that i would let everyone know first off, if they are calling you over and over again that could be considered harrasment and you could file a suite against them. If they are calling for you tha are only allowed to leave one message a day. Also, if you tell them very specifically not to call this number anymore or better yet say "i want you to ceast and desist" this is whether the call is for you or not. Some agencies will honor it when you do it this way but leagally your supposed to fax something but if you wanna be sure that it gets honored they leagally have to give you there fax number. One last note.... Sometimes if there looking for you, you might want to listen because you might be getting garneshed soon or the situation may be more serious than you think. I hope that this little bit of "inside info" helps someone.

And you won't get garnished just like that unless your employer does it voluntarily. Most won't. It requires a lawsuit and the chance to defend yourself. Find out if your employer has that volunteer policy, most will require a court order.

In fact I had to pay that money before I could get my car out of impound, which shows me, I have not incurred any debt that requires them to come after me!!!!

He's the thing about GC Services employees, managers and assistant managers. It is a telephone sweat box. Consider who your dealing with. All of their employess are working there becase they are not good enough collectors to work directly for a large 1st party corporation like Master Card. It's a high turnover high stress job. These collectors go from third party agency to third party agency, again, beacse they are not good enough or have the abillity to work directly for 1st party corporations like Amex of Master Card.

I truly need some help because this company is being of no service. I have never been treated so rudely or disrespected in such a manner before while trying to conduct a short sale.

To the dissapointed real estate agent. Call the Corp office at 713-776-6671 and ask the person who answers, "Who can help me with this?" The person that answers can not help you with your problem! This person can only route you to someone that can possibly assist you better, so do not go into great detail with the person that answers. If by chance no one answers, do not leave a message, just call back because the may have stepped away for a minute. Just trying to help... I hope you get the help you need.

GC Services can be sued for harrasment.
GC Services contacted my wife regarding a defaulted student loan. They first represented themselves as Greatlakes and asked for a credit card number to pay a severly reduced amount. The amount of reduction raised the eyebrow of suspicion so I requested a call back number, I finally got the person to admit they were connected with Greatlakes. Then they informed my wife that they were turning the matter over to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution and that all wages would be garnished and bank accounts drained along with ruined credit. They then solicited my elderly mother for a credit card number to settle the debt when she answered the phone at 7:30 am. Calls continue to this day at all hours. When I requested that they not call, I was informed that they only way I could be put on a do not call list was if they could verify that I lived here and to do that they needed my social security number. All done so smoothly it was no doubt common routine.
All these practices go beyond negligence and well into a violation of well established law. For those have encountered similar experiences, contact an attorney familiar with trade related law in your state, you may recover damages for these violations and harassments.

If you had student loans thru Sallie May they will haunt you even at work.....

This was absolutely the worst job I have ever had.
