While I know it is very shady what they do, they do spell it out for you when you order your free credit report. You click and agree to pay for this stupid monitoring. On what grouds do you believe you are entitled to a refund?
jentimus--who is your bank? I definately want to switch my accounts over to a bank that will give me credit for something I agreed to and then decided to dispute. I could not get my bank to help me stop my PDL withdrawls. You are one lucky person.

My sister in law was here one day and talked me into going and getting my "free credit report" ... so i did, after doing so i left the room, leaving my paypal debit card laying on my desk.... she used it for her report too ( without my permission ) and still hasnt told me... But loggin onto paypal seeing they were trying to debit my account 12.95... twice everytime....I dont have enough funds in my account for them to debit, but if i did it would be gone... I did not realize when she had talked me into it but this was on the front page when i looked it up today:

" When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring. If you don't cancel your membership within the 30-day trial period, you will be billed $12.95 for each month that you continue your membership."

I found this : " CANCEL MEMBERSHIP
If you would like to cancel your membership, for your security, please call our toll-free number at 1-877-481-6826."
the representitive I spoke with claims he cancelled both memberships... i guess i will wait and see...

I had 2 charges of $12.95 on my card for the same thing. I called and they canceled my account as well reversed both charges. However, when they processed the refund they actually charged my card. Right now they owe me $59.90. I will be calling them today and I will let you know what happens.

I'd like to tell my story about this CIC fraud.

I am pre-law right now, so I found this whole ordeal very fun, even though I know very little when it comes to these types of things.

I noticed the transaction ($12.95), looked around the internet to find out what the charge was for. I found their number and called, they agreed to cancel my account but the operator said it wasn't possible for her to refund the charge and that the only way to get a refund was to mail some sort of separate center. I received the address from her and a claim number then informed her that I would have my attorney mail a dispute to the address and that I would have that I would contact the BBB about the situation. She immediately discovered that she actually did have the ability to refund the charges and the $12.95 was refunded before the original charge even left the pending transactions list of my checking account.

Some people here say that they continued to charge them after canceling their accounts. I plan on following up on the situation a lot more... ruthlessly... if I find any more companies from this fraud company.

To anyone having trouble canceling their account, certain words seem to make them work very quickly, such as BBB and attorney. THe whole process, from finding the charge, to getting the refund took possibly 10 minutes. (Well the refund wasn't posted until the next Monday, but you know what I mean.)

After reading supersire's VERY helpful post, I too called CIC at 877-481-6825. I chose to speak to a representative, and verified the card # for the acct. being charged, my full name, mother's maiden, and the last 4 digits of my social. The rep told me she could cancel the membership, but was only authorized to refund 2 months of charges:$24.00. I had been charged a total of 4 times (4 months) for $48.00 total. I asked what further steps I could take to get all my $$$ back, and she referred me (like supersire) to a seperate customer service org. I told her that I would be contacting the BBB if she was not able to refund the full amount. She put me on hold, and upon returning, she had received authorization to refund the full $48.00. She put me on hold once more to cancel the membership and process the refund, which will come in 7-10 business days. I will definetely post as to when the cash is back in my account, but thanks to this message board I think i'm on the right track. THANKS TO ALL!!!

I also have found this on my account. To state the obvious they are a "free-credit report company" But they charge, How convienient!

After reading this thread for about 3 hours ive come to the conclusion that this site is obviously a depot for a trojan virus.

I have contacted this company and wouldnt you guess. They needed my credit card info and "all" of my personal information to process a termination of service. I also called my bank and my credit card company. There is a phone number that you can call to report identity theft and if enough people report this site somthing "will" happen and or the person(s) responsible will be brought up on fraudulent charges for identity theft.

If this company has withdrew money from your bank account i strongly urge you to contact your local authroity, then call the following number to report identity theft. 1-877-438-4338. The person(s) who are responsible for this activity are very professional at what they do and seem to be experts in Intelligence and networking. I have siezed all of my router logs and will be sending them to symantec and the proper authority to ensure anybody coming across my router in the past 3 years related to this incident be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Information obtained by these person(s) included very personal information all the way down to my (work email, mothers maiden name, favorite pet name, home address, social security number, date of birth, and credit card number.)

If this comes across your billing statement and have no record of the incident or reccolection of signing up, you are most likely the victim of identity theft and you should take this VERY SERIOUSLY!

Just think, They have all that info, Now they know what your credit score is. It seems to me like the person(s) responsible are nit picky about their victims and seem to be looking for people with good credit so they can do somthing... I do not know who or what their issue is or how damaged they are in the brain, but one thing is for sure. They will go down and i will be there personally for the trial to stare the dirt bags in the eye just to see the fear in them.

I found out that CIC* Report charges on your bank account or credit card, is from a company called
Free Credit Report.com and the fee you are being charged is for a monthly fee to view your credit report for free.
And they will charge your account every month unless you cancel.
And you can easily cancel your account.
Just call 1-800-787-6864 and tell them to cancel your account. They will try to talk you out of cancelling your account just tell them that you don't need their services and to cancel you. Make sure you make a note of when and who you talked to.
Then next month if they charge you again.
Then call them back and inform them who you talked to and when.
Hope this helps.

Same here.. But maybe filing with the FTC.
https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01

Will get their so call free report site shutdown and them investigated for fraudelent business practice.
Maybe even get the parent comapnay in hot water and hope they lose their license.

When I ended up calling these scammers, I got some guy I thought sounded quite foreign. I didn't know what I was dealing with. I couldn't understand him.

By law you are allow 1 free credit report from each of the companies. The site forced you to unwittingly join their service. This is a fraud.

Maybe mailing the California governor will get this company investigated on the state level. But if your not from Cali then it become a federal matter.

I've been charged monthly also for a free credit report and did not read the fine print. I've called several times at 1-877-481-6826 and been able to cancel. I've been charged for 3 month and want it canceled and credited to my visa.

I too, was charged 12.95 on my credit card. I emailed them immediately because I couldn't ever get anybody on the phone, and MAC J responded almost immediately asking for the last four of my social security number and the email address that I signed up with. After I sent him that, I got an email back that the membership has been cancelled and that the refund should appear in my next billing cycle. I'll keep you posted if it happens.

The same evening that I posted my previous message, A credit was posted to my Capitol One credit card. I logged in to the Triple Advantage CIC site and all of my information was no longer there. So maybe emailing may be a better way to deal with things than calling. You can't get the runaround through email.

We have lost over ten credit reports that were charged on four different credit cards and sent to who now whom or where. This company allowed for us to now be victims of identity theft. CIC is not going to work with us and the local authorities are not sure they will be helpful either. Be aware that if this company is that easily accessed and you've sent them your information or someone else has established accounts with your information you to will find yourselfs suffering from identity theft like we have.

The CIC Advatage is a joke. They say you get a free credit report and then billed me $12 for 10 months for doing nothing. I never heard of them and they gave me a $24 refund of the $120 they stole from me. They are a cooked outfit.
I don't even know what they do, except take $12 a montgh and they have never sent me anything-do not know how they get their INFO. - but it cannot be legal - KEEP FIGHTING TELL WE ALL GET BACK OUR MONEY AND WE SHUT DOWN THIS BOGUS SCAM. :(

These things are such scams. That one advertisement on TV (I don't want to mention which one, but I am sure you have seen it) offers a free credit report but then automatically enrolls you in some bogus monthly subscription. My mother in law fell for it. I wonder how many tens of thousands of people are in her company.

You are allowed one free credit report annually, legit, no hidden fees. Just check out experian transunion or equifax.

The same thing happened to me. i was charged by CIC for an unauthorized charged. I called 1-800-220-2626 and spoke to a representative and I was refunded my money back. You can obtain a copy of your credit report for free at annualcreditreport.com. Its free, safe and you don't have to give them your credit or bank card info. You get a free copy of your report free once every 12 months with them. You can also obtain a free copy of your credit report at any one of the credit bureaus if you write to them and request it

I contacted them and asked for account to be cancelled but charges continue to appear three months consecutively for a total of $70. That's a brilliant business plan for criminals and greedy individuals.

This is how you get rid of CIC credit Monitoring and Get your money refunded!

First of all, If you email them they will not cancel the account. I did this and even got a confirmation email. Then they charged my bank account two days later. YOU MUST GET ON THE PHONE WITH THEM TO CANCEL THE ACCOUNT. They know this but of course they won't tell you this because their goal is to continue taking your money as long as they can..

Forget about that other 1-800 number on your checking account statement. I believe this is a phony number purposely put into place by them to deter people from cancelling. I was on eternal hold until I finally decided to hang up 15 minutes later into the call on my cellphone.

Call this number 1-888-888-8553. Write down the time, date and who you are speaking to. Let the representative know that you wish to cancel immediately, (doesn't make any difference why you wish to cancel it is your right!) Make it crystal clear that if they don't cancel immediately you will file an immediate complaint with the BBB, FTC, and California State Attorney General. (more on that later)

At this time you may also want to request a refund of some or all of the charges depending upon your situation. (But even if they say No! All is not lost. There is other ways to get your money back) I am not sure what their specific procedures are for giving refunds, but I do know this. They are authorized to do an immediate refund at any given minute. That 7-10 day refund wait period is a bunch of crap. I checked my bank statement and the same morning I got off the phone with them, I had one of the charges posted immediately back into my account.

If you cant get them to budge on a refund: You can

A) Get refunded via your credit card company or bank. According to consumer affairs in CA, You can contact the issuer of the credit card charged or bank and have the charges reversed within 60 days of receiving the first bank statement with the charges on it.

If its way past the 60 days and the bank or credit card company won't refund the money you can also

B) Inform the State Attorney General's office and BBB that you wish to get a refund as resolution and see if the company will be motivated to give you the money back. If its too late for your bank or credit card company to intervene and you can't get refunded from the bank or credit card company, you should clearly state this in your complaint to the BBB and STate Attorney General.

C) File a claim in your local small claims court. Its cheap and no attorneys are involved. I know this sounds daunting but it might be enough to motivate the company to settle your complaint immediately to avoid negative publicity.

Last but not least, If you really want to put some fire behind these people Idle Threats will not work. I actually went to the websites for the BBB, State Attorney General, etc.. and immediately filed my complaints online. I then copied and pasted entire copies of my online complaints into an email and emailed it to CIC Credit's cancellations department to let them know that I mean business.

cancel(at)consumerinfo.com

The very next day I had the remaining amount refunded back to my account.

Good Luck!

I found the charge the following month from when I cancelled. I called the number on the billing statement from the bank, and was told by a recording that the "Office was now closed, Call back between normal business hours of 6 AM - 6 PM." I called at 10 AM this morning! Class action lawsuit anyone?

Just a few FYI's from someone who works for those big bad credit card companies. Threatening to contact the FTC, BBB, Attorney Genereral, a lawyer yada yada will get you absolutely nowhere with us, actually you will probably be treated worse. We listen to people complain & threaten & brag about how great their credit report is all day & you know what I do....I put you on mute & crochet a couple more stitches. We can see your credit report we know you are lying. Also if you try the route of getting an attorney they will laugh in your face because
1) you are taking on a HUGE company who will have 50 lawyers to your 1
2)you agreed to your terms & conditions when you signed that application so you pretty much gave us the right to do anything we want
3) most companies have an arbitration clause, again when you signed that agreement so you won't even make it to court.

If you want to get anythinig done to your satisfaction do something totally out of the ordinary....be nice. Don't be overly sweet (we know you want something in the first 10 seconds) just be polite ask for what you want, LISTEN to the person you are talking to they don't want to be on the phone as much as you do. If you can't get thru an automated system it's because you aren't listening to the options. Companies test their IVR systems daily to see if there are problems, if you can't get thru it's because you missed an option. Yes companies are slick about getting you to sign up for programs but DISCLOSURE LAWS require that we tell you everything up front so READ EVERYTHING first & you wont be in this mess.

I hate to burst your bubble but nobody is out to get you, in this day & age I'm really surprised people feel they are being taken advantage of considering the disclosure laws, you can't blame a company if you didn't read everything

I never asked for any credit report from CIC. I have never heard of this company and I just looked at my bank statement and they have charge 44.95 to my account. How do I stop this from happening again and more importantly how did they get my debit card number?

I checked my bank statement today on line and there was a charge of 12.95 to someone that I hadn't heard of. It was CIC, so I called 1-877-481-6825 and waded through the run around part of the call and finialy got a real person and found pout that since I didn't cancel after 30 days, the computer thought that I wanted to keep my membership (Great computers thinking for humans now). I asked them to cancel my membership and they said that they would and I asked if they would refund my 25.80 and they said they would. We shall see in a month.

I just noticed the 4th ($12.95) charge on my cc.
I called the cc company and they credited my account for me.
Then I called CIC to cancell the membership. It wasn't much of a hassle, so I hope that the problem is solved.

I cancled this membership today. The gentleman I talked to tried to convince me to stay signed up, but I just firmly told him I wasn't interested and he cancled the membership. As kind of a weird side note, I was never able to access the creit report even. They said I had to prove who I was by ansering some questions, and told me that I had the wrong answers even though I did have the correct info. I never even got to see my credit report.

BEWARE!!!! There are many fraudulent websites on the net that pose as authorized bodies and claim that they are helping the consumers in getting their credit report. But in reality they run these sites to get the personal information of the consumers. The consumers unknowingly provide their name, address, Social Security numbers, date of birth, credit card numbers, bank account information, passwords, and other personal information. This is their modus operandi to get the exact information they need to assume the victims identity; they open up multiple credit card accounts on the victim????????s name and commit credit card fraud and more.
