Well I also signed up for this..but I say state for them they do put on the web-site and the page where you HAVE TO put your credit card in that you are signing up for something with a charge. I think common sence now-a-days should tell yuo nothing is free....you should read everything...especally if your putting your credit card number in*

I have had problmes with several credit report agencys online double billing and just plain ripping me off so I got a card I put the exact ammount I need on it when I order online and had my bank re-issue another debit card, gotta be careful shopping with it on the net, just yesterday I spent 4 hours arguing on the phone with about 5 places who either overcharged or charged for things they werent authorized to,I agree also they hold too much power and charge too much.I got a great monitoring of all 3 credit through mysocalled"credit building card" through 1st premier bank for only 9.99 a month. sara

:( sorry to say, I just checked with my bank and if you google the company, they are a FRAUDULENT COMPANY- call your bank about them--and report them to the better business bureau---doesn't that suck? It's bad enough you have to watch your credit report but then the "free credit report.com actually sends you to a site that is a rip off--mine is with experian, rip off, rip off, rip off, and God knows when I'll ever get the issue resolved. By the way-- free annual report- transunion- questioned the fraudulent charge- they e mailed me the next day with a corrected credit report!!!! What a bunch of phonies to make money on people who really don't have it to waste--now I have to play the wait and see game about getting this taken care of, why doesn't the government step in and say- hey, they contacted ONE BUREAU, CAN'T YOU TALK TO EACHOTHER AND STRAIGHTEN THE PROBLEM OUT FOR THESE PEOPLE? NOOOOOOOOOO, that would be too damn convenient for us suckers.............good luck to you.

Fyi---call your bank immediately after it posts to your account-- and tell them it is fraud---they will automatically investigate the company and you will get your money back, not fast, but you will within 2 weeks.

Beware of any company--check them out on google first and don't trust the first 10 pages--they hide the bad companies 20-30 pages in..........been burned at christmas by bidz.com

Just a note to everyone...I've had the same problem, CIC credit monitoring has been charging me 11.95 here, and 9.95 there. I went to the better business buruea (sp)and found a website for them...it is consumerinfo.com. It's a branch of experian as you probably know. Anyways, to cancel (even though, WHY should we have to cancel if we didn't even join), call 1-888-888-8553. Give them a good balling out from me too, they're going to get it from me!

Now wait a minute. I'm kind of confused here. Everyone is trying to make a buck even if they say they are helping? Huh? This place (I'm assuming) is somehow related to Experion (from what has been posted). Now, when I was checking my credit reports, I did see places where you could request some kind of "service" from these places regarding your credit report. Could this person have accidentally (not intentional) let this be "checked" as saying yes, so this company provided the service? Which, in turn, they charged for it? I just noticed it while I was checking mine and just made sure I wasn't leaving anything "checked" as a "service" because I knew I would have to pay for it. I don't think this company is just trying to make a buck by saying they're helping. I think something may have been overlooked and it went through as saying "yes, I want this service". Luckily, it can be cancelled. I just made sure I read every word so I didn't let anything surprise me.

OMG! I have had this problem just happen to me. I called the number right away. The lady was at least nice but I almost couldn't even understand what she was saying her accent was soo thick. And of course she kept trying to get me to stay or she told me our records show that now your a paid member and you haven't checked your latest report but since your a full member you have unlimited access. I'm like I don't care I just want to cancel. She said but it would be best if you checked I said I don't need to check my score I just did it once for free and I know the site says after 30 days blah blah just cancel it. Finally she did I'm supposed to get a confirmation e mail or something like I said I couldn't even understand her. Man I could have swore I did the free credit report like months ago. I cant even remember I forgot I even did thats how long ago it was. I'm just glad I caught this before I was charged more. I don't remember the site looking that good either it was a basic site when I tried it. And of course now they have that whole membership after 30 days thing on the front page so no one can complain they didn't see it anymore. I didn't ask for a refund I didn't feel like fighting. It's just $12 if it were more than that you bet your ass I would be on it! Man This pisses me off.

You guys do make a good point thats why I didnt fight them I just wanted to cancel. It was obviously my fault for not reading carefully. They shouldn't advertise too much of the Free aspect of their site tho. Because it mislead a lot of people. I mean no one would complain if they did sign up to be a member because then they are getting a service they paid for. Its just those of us that either didn't see the fine print for one reason or another. like i mentioned its not really fine print anymore now they have it on the first page. So hopefully this problem wont happen anymore.

canface, completely understandable. I believe it's kind of "small" and it's already "checked" that you want the service. So I'm sure a lot of people get the service without even being aware of it. But, after going through a lot of crap, I've learned to read every single word and look at every single box, etc. to make sure I'm not signing up for anything I don't want! I'm glad you were able to cancel it.

About 4 months ago I tried to get a free credit report and I noticed from then I was being charged by this cic, 9.95 a month and I didn't know how to reach them or even get back on their site. I guess I will just have to get my bank to stop payment to them. hopefully it does effect my credit later in the future.

Got my "free" credit report from freecreditreport.com about a month ago. 5 minutes after viewing the report online, I called and cancelled the credit monitoring service. The next month,a $12.95 charge appears on my credit card statement. I called CIC credit monitoring to dispute the charge. Even though I cancelled the service, they claim that I looked at my credit report again a few days later and this reactivated my membership. This is untrue. I had never looked at the report since the first time. I told them I would be contacting the FTC, my credit card company, and joining the class action suit. After talking to the supervisor, they refunded my money. It was credited to my account on the very same day.

I just called them. First the 877-481-6825 where, after a minute or so of waiting for next available operator, I got a continuous busy signal.

Then called Experian at 800-220-2626 and asked for immediate removal from the service. This was granted without problem and I have a couple of e-mail confirmations to support the fact. We'll see what happens next month!

Perhaps they are giving up attempting to argue you into staying, as the fight and victory was almost disappointing!

I just called the number above and they cancelled my services. Lets hope there are no more charges, but if that worked it was very easy and not even a long wait!

 I found the charges also on my credit card at first I did not remember the CIC Name but when I saw freecreditreport.com I thought How could I be so stuped.
I called my credit card company and told them I did not want the service any longer and didn't want to go to the trouble calling them to cancel. The credit card company removed the auto draft from my account.

they told me that there was a link "entitled important information." On it they can charge you $12.00 a month. It is a scam and I am having my bank investigate it.

I checked my credit score recently and apparently unknowingly I had also signed up for CIC credit monitoring service. I didn't even know about it until my bank called me about suspected fraudulent purchases. I didn't even have an email from these guys, a phone number, or even a website to contact them by. My bank gave me their number 800 388 8725 to which I promptly called to cancel the service.

I'd like to say thank you for putting all of what everyone has to say about CIC..I ordered a credit report and looked on my account to find 14.95 deducted.

I'm not getting my credit report online

I just found this charge also and called the 800 number found here. The wait time was less than a minute. The lady was nice...but did try at first to tell me she had to transfer me to another number to get a private access code to view my account? After three times of telling her I dont care about viewing it I just want it CANCELLED!She finally said ok, I took her name down and ask for a cancellation number. Seemed easy enough, but still concerned I will be charged next month. I will probably change my credit card number just in case!

CIC is a website owned by Experian under their Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring program. It's found at a website very similar to the official government sponsored website.

Google "free credit report" and watch what happens:

When you get to that website, click on "Get Yours Now" and see Free Trial Offer that really isn't free and this disclaimer, in small type: "This offer is not related to the free credit report that you are entitled to under Federal law. To obtain that free report, you must go to _________" (Sorry, can't write the website's name!)

Add to this a pop up menu that appears: "Get 3 credit reports and 3 credit scores in seconds" and you get to another offer: "Receive a personal 3 Bureau Credit Report and 3 Credit Scores for the special discounted price of only $39.95!"

You are entitled to 3 different credit reports annually, from each of the 3 credit reporting agencies. Once get your credit reports, you are on your own trying to understand what they mean.

There is only one central source for free credit reports, despite TV ads and websites touting what sound like legit sites. It????????s _____ (if you really want to know this website, ask your bank).

By the way, all of this information is a direct cut and paste job from other reputable non-profit websites.

Now, it's not a total rip-off/scam to some people. If you have some credit problems, it allows you to watch your monthly status as you rebuild/repair your credit history. That may be motivating if you're trying to claw your way out of seriously past due debts. It may also help if you have multiple past due accounts so you can keep track of what you owe to who and how to reach them.

Typically, people who get in this kind of serious debt tend to have poor file management in addition to their other problems. The $12-13/month may be worth it if you have a hard time keeping track of paperwork.

Other than that, it doesn't really offer any additional advantages.

Screaming at anyone won't get you any results--the operator is a person too and can hold a grudge. I wouldn't be surprised if they may have added an account out of spite. I probably would have if I was a college kid working as an operator to pay the bills. If you want to take care of the problem, be professional about it. Record the phone call if you want to. Or get a lawyer's help. If there's an agreement to cancel the service, make sure you get it in writing (this is where the recorded phone call comes in handy!)

I called and spoke with a rep named Kerri, she immediately asked for my social security # so I could dispute the charge. Appearently, she handles quite a few complaints regarding the "mysterious" bank drafts. Supposedly, when you sign up for your FREE credit report...unless you cancel within 30 days, according to the "TERMS" that you "AGREED" to...you have given them authority to make these withdrawls.
ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT!
She was not able to provide a physical mailing adress (so I could send a certified letter) nor was she able to provide any information regarding a business adress from where she was working. Good Luck

I have an account with CIC/Experian credit reporting - I am trying to cancel it and have found that their 800 number showing up on my statement doesn't work - The point is I have liked the fact that my credit was being monitored and I could check it online when I wanted to. However, they raised their rate and I'm guessing they are going to everything they can to prevent me from ending the account. Another point: you are allowed to get one free credit report every year (at least in CA). You shouldn't have to pay for it, especially if you didn't order it.

I fell for this too...the first 7 days are free and then you have to call to cancel. DO NOT call the number listed on your credit card. Call this number (888) 888-8553 and hit option 1. I have been charged three months before I realized what this was, they refunded 1 month... be sure to ask for at least one months refund when you cancel.

You need to use annualcreditreport.com not freecreditreport.com otherwise this will happen to you. Annualcreditreport.com is the free site that you can order your 3 CRA reports for free (they will ask however if you want to pay for each of your scores though, and you will need to decline).

My checking account was charged $14.95 for a FREE credit report. Wow! Who are you people? The site I downloaded my report from makes no mention of YOU. Stretch the $14.95 as far as you...you won't get any more...I closed my account.

You know, I have been charged twice by this merchant, and I didn't even knew who the hell they were until I actually started a google search. I'm filing a credit card fraud dispute cause I have never ever been to that website and never the less applied for anything... I suggest if you're having the same problem do the same, raise a dispute with your bank and fight this one through cause they'll just keep going at it.

Legally, I believe you are entitled to one free credit report within 90 days of every inquiry made by a financing company.

Sadly, I am being scammed on this as well, and with poor scrutiny upon my card/checking account, I just realized I've been losing quite a bit of money to them... If you found out how to stop them at all, please email me @ Army_Garner@yahoo.com.

thanks

I noticed a debit of $14.95 and disputed through my bank. The bank could not get a hold of anyone to dispute. I called and spoke w/ a rep to cancel whatever this account was. He explained it was for a credit report someone ordered monthly. He processed the disconnect but when I asked for a confirmation he said he will email it to me. i advised if I didnt set up this account he dosent have my correct information. Basically told me I was SOL. I finally just put a fraud alert on for this company and the debits have stopped so far. 1 month and counting.....
