Debt collection from another country

14 years 11 months ago
I've been contacted by West Asset Management regarding loans made in 1987 (and was paying off through the original lender, which stopped contact with me over 15 years ago). I've been living in Canada since 1989. What rights do they have over citizens of another country?

Debt Settlement-FICO

14 years 11 months ago
Hello, Last June I settled and paid a BOA line of credit and my FICO dropped 100 points. What can I do to increase my score? I am paying all my other bills on time, except an ED loan of $30K I have in forebearance. BTW-do education (Sallie Mae) loans hurt your score too? I have one MC card I owe $6K on and they too have closed my account because I agreed to go into a low interest hardship plan. So I am sure that will surely affect my score too. Just how long will it take to see my score go up if I keep paying on time. The home I live in is paid off and its' estimated worth is at $325k.

How to deal with Zwicker and Associates?

14 years 11 months ago
So long story short, over the past 2 years I ran into some financial problems. Slowly but surely I was able to pay off a Chase CC and one from BofA. The only outstanding debt I have is with an AMEX card with a balance of roughly $5,000. Today I received a call from Zwicker and Associates and they were very insistent on me putting down a $400 payment and set up a monthly payment plan. The guy whom I spoke with said this was for my AMEX Optima card. My card which I owe on was a blue cash, I've never had an optima card. I don't know if this matter or not.

Creditors

After reading your advice on how to settle debt, I am wondering what implications allowing a debt to be sent to a creditor would have for me. I am a student, and attending school completely on student loans - I have a high interest, high debt credit card, and the company refuses to work with me to make the payments reasonable so that I can pay it off before the 82 estimated years (of paying the minimum). Because of this, I am considering allowing my account to become delinquent so that I can negotiate to pay it off sooner. What advice do you suggest?

after charge off

I have three cards that were charged off late last year Boa, Chase and 1st Natl of Omaha. They were all sold to junk debt buyers, Asset Acceptance, Daniels and Norelli, and one other outfit. My question is this...after calling for a few weeks, they all have quit, except for a token call once a week or so. I am in a somewhat better financial shape than I was and could perhaps settle some of these if they were willing.

Took a $700 loan after paying back $500 + $707 interest.

14 years 11 months ago
So like the thread says I took out a $700 loan with AdvanceMeToday.com after paying them back a $500 loan plus over $700 in interest. That was before I learned that these loans were illegal in CA if they are unlicensed. Now my question is... Should I tell them to count my new loan as paid in full and send me the difference from the interest I paid on the other loan? Either that or I'll demand a refund anyway and use it to pay them the $700 principle amount. Should I tell them I'll withhold payment on the new loan anyway if they don't agree to my idea?

Finally FREE from the plastic

I started my process back in July of 2010 and today I settled my last account. I started with 3 accounts, BofA, HSBC and Citi. BofA was the first to settle mid Jan of this year. We were at $22,000 and they accepted $6300 in one lump sum mid Jan HSBC had a balance of $23,000 and it settled at $8000 mid Feb Today I settled with Citi. They sent it to collections at day 112 and the way I found that out was on day 114 I called to make a settlement offer. They said since it went to collections they would not discuss it with me and I needed to wait for the law firm to contact me.
