Hi, I received a letter from Michael J. Scott stating they represent Capital One Bank for a charged off auto loan I have. They show the amount owed is over $6k more than my credit report shows for the charged off amount and are requesting it in full within 35 days or possible lawsuit. Of course I cannot pay it (or I would have taken care of this already). What are my options? Thanks in advance.

I received a letter from Resurgent Capital Services telling me they had an overpayment on my closed Sears account. This account has been paid off and closed since 2004. How do I know this isn't some ploy to get my account information once I try to cash said check?

if i do this will it mess up my credit?

I was being charged an account that was not even mine, it came from verizon wireless, $1515 dollars. it appeared in my credit report, I called them and told me that I had to pay it, the account was charged off already and I said that I never had opened that account, i made a dispute but no success. I called to make an arrangement because I am trying to buy a house and dont want negative information in mycredit report, they reported as KD since january 2010. they reopened the account and my credit score lowered by 42 points, I was pissed offf.
