Anyone have any information regarding these companies? I have gotten myself into it with all three, had to close my bank account and so on...trying to figure out the best way to handle this

Is there a free website that lists phone numbers of these "debt collection" companies that one can go to for a reverse number look up. I would think these companies would be obligated to make their numbers accessible to the general public for verification purposes alone.

I live in Ohio. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I defaulted on my pdl with Magnum July 9. I know they are illegal to do business in the State of Ohio and that I only owe them back the principal balance. My original loan was for $600 and before default paid $254.71 leaving a balance of $345.29. On July 16, I was successful in working out a payment plan for the $345.29. I am to mail them a money order every 2 weeks for $40. They agree to my payment plan proposal in writing. I have made my payment faithfully as per the payment plan.

They left a message WITH MY SUPERVISOR at my work for something I don't even owe. Pissed me off. Do they have a right to do this?

Today in the Realtor Magazine there is a paragraph on the new Fannie Mae rules on strategic defaulters. FANNIE MAE TAKES AIM AT STRATEGIC DEFAULTS "Borrowers with a Fannie Mae backed mortgage who engage in a strategic default won't be eligible for another Fannie Mae backed loan for seven years, the secondary mortgage market company says. Fannie also will seek deficiency judgements against borrowers if allowed by state law. Fannie in late July was writing full blown instructions to servicers detailing its new policies.

Hopefully somebody will be able to help me out. Yesterday a summons was left on my door (I live in MA) in an attempt to collect close to 10,000 by LVNV funding (it's mine, was originally a citibank credit card). Long story short I defaulted on this card after taking a close to $35K pay cut 3 years ago and then losing my job (company went out of business) in October 2008 and remianing unemployed for 19 months. The only reason I have not filed for bankruptcy at this point is I haven't had the money to, even money for groceries can be rough sometimes.
