What is the statue of limitation on a credit card debt.

I received a call from Thomas Edwards stating that court papers have been drawn against me for a financial matter and that I needed to call him back immediately. When I called him back, he stated he was calling for Cash Jar for an upaid $250 loan from Cash Jar last year. I did in fact take out a loan from Cash Jar and did not repay it as I was told I was not legally liable for it since in it illegal in NC. He told me that the legal fees total over $2500 but they will settle for $794. I made one payment last month for $265 and have two payments remaining.

I have $17,500 in credit card debt. My 2 credit cards have been closed for one and a half years and I've been making on-time payments on them. I have been unemployed/underemployed since December 2008 when I was laid off from my job of 10 years. I am thinking about trying to settle these debts myself. I feel uncomfortable with stopping payments. Might the creditors be willing to negotiate while I'm current? Thank you.

Hi the creditior did not validate the debt however, when I sent the letter I did not certify mail it but I have a copy of the letter that I sent them. Also I called the creditor and they claim that they never got a letter from me what should I do?

Got a call today from someone claiming to work with Chester County Court Department asking me to contact Greenberg Law Office regarding summons that's to be issued to me about possible check fraud. Never heard of these people or anything about check fraud until today..left an 877-711-7321 # for me to call the law firm.

I recently received a letter from Michael J. Scott, PC Attorneys and Counselors at Law in Carrolton, TX. The letter was dated July 22, 2010. It stated that it was written response to my request that they verify a debt from Citibank. I did not recall any communication from this office or written notice that they were trying to collect a debt. I don't normally call, but I did call this firm. I began questioning the letter and why it was sent to me since I had not requested anything from them and had no prior communication with or from them.
