Name forged to consolidated student loan

15 years 6 months ago
I recently got a copy of my credit report and found past due debt showing up for student loan that was affecting my credit report. I filed dispute with credit bureaus and contacted the creditor to find out more information. From the creditor, I requested a copy of the promissory note and application. To my findings, this was for a student loan that was consolidated. The creditor has sent me a packet so they can investigate my claim for identity theft.

$40K Debt/Considering Debt Settlement

15 years 6 months ago
This is a great forum with a lot of interesting and helpful threads. I would appreciate some advice on my current situation and debt settlement. I am currently current with all payments. I'll be honest and say that I can pay minimums while struggling a little bit, but I simply want to be able to keep my hard earned money and don't have any money leftover after making minimum payments. I don't have a story to tell the creditors that I've lost my job or went through some bad medical experience.

the never ending circle of payday loans

15 years 6 months ago
I occassionally come to this forum and read that I am not the only one dealing with payday lenders... it has become so incredibly aweful..just to keep face with family and try to pay my bills with what little is left over every two weeks after the now 18 payday lenders take their fairshare... I've been living this nightmare for over a year... I'm tired, I need out, I can't do it anymore..I would close my account if I could but the minute I do, they'll start calling my employer then I will loose my job. i have become so depressed over the past couple months..

Settled all my accounts..now what?

15 years 6 months ago
A year ago I was $14k in the hole in 3 accounts, and have just finished settling all of them. What is the next step? When does this get reflected on my credit report (just the last one a week ago..previous one was 4 months ago)? How can I get my credit back to a respectable level? How long does the process generally take (I still have student loans left, and no other debts).

Student loan rehabilitation

15 years 6 months ago
Did the law change effective July 1 for Student loan rehabilitation? I've completed the rehab and my loans have been purchased by another lender. I received a letter from the guarantor indicating that they will remove my negative history from my credit report and the letter also indicates that the prior loan holder will also remove the delinquency from my credit report. But when I called the prior loan holder, they indicated that they would not remove the delinquency. When I called the guarantor back, they told me again that it was federal law effective July 1.

If you receive a 1099 for cancelled debt, you might not have to pay taxes

15 years 6 months ago
I've seen alot of posts here about receiving a 1099-c once you settle with a creditor. For example, if you settle a $30,000 debt for $10,000, the creditor will send you a 1099-c for $20,000 that essentially makes that $20,000 taxable income. BUT there is an exception! If you are insolvent (debts outweigh your assets), you don't have to pay taxes on cancelled debt. I'm not a CPA, so you should consult one for your individual situation. FIA Card Services Special Phone Number

15 years 6 months ago
Hello all, I saw a special phone number for senior account managers posted here for FIA Card Services. The number is 866-429-1097. I called the number and said that I wanted to discuss my account, but they could not help me. She said that she had to transfer me to recovery. Does that make sense? I thought this number was for the senior account managers. Any advice? Thanks!

I just won against Dominion Law and Midland Funding. I am so releived! If you have any questions please email me. I did not have an attorney - I did this on my own . I just received a non-suited matter letter from DLA 2 days ago because they did not have the correct information against me to proceed with their claim.
