I have two fairly small debts (about $700 each) from 3-4 years ago that have been sent to collection agencies. I want to get this all taken care of and paid off and thought it might be possible to settle the debts with them. How exactly do I bring up the topic of settling the debt with the collection agencies? Of course the agencies want 100% of the money, so how do I ask them if they'll accept less?

I am in a bind. I have 3 payday loans. totaling over $1,000,which I cannot pay off. The monthly fees are killing me, and I don't know how to go about having them handled by debt consolidation,or something of that nature. Plus, I have poor credit. Can anyone help, please?

Hello, I can across your website and I find it very useful. I was wondering about phone calls made from a debt collector. Though I am not positive yet, because I have not answered the calls from them, I believe they are calling multiple time a day. Two times from a visible number and at least 3 times from an unknown number. If my suspicions are right it is the same people calling from the unknown number as the people calling from the visible number. Where in the FDCPA would I find this??

My BF has defaulted on a federal student loan. Allied Interstate has been calling us and family members for at least a year or two. We made a payment or two, but don't have the kind of money we would need to even keep ahead of the interest. What can we do? The original loan is Sallie Mae, that's all I know.

Is this company legal or licensed ? We are in PA.

Hello everyone, As I have posted today.....we have been able to settle all of my husband's debt which was considerable.....now I am second guessing myself.....but I know we had no other choice. I paid all of the debt in my name and worked out a hardship plan on two accounts. So, I guess my question is for those who have preceeded me in debt settlement.... How does it compare with BK as far as credit score.....and also how long does it take to rebuild?

I received 2 calls yesterday morning and this evening from a Officer Robert Backum ( sp ) stating that I should not ignore his call and this a time sensitive matter. He spoke in a thick accent. I do not know the exact dialect. He also claims there have been several complaints filed against me. A few months ago I received some calls from an agency that was bogus trying to get me to pay on old pay day loans that we pd. in full. After successfully blocking their calls and letting the one that slipped through go to voice mail I hadn't heard a thing.

My charged-off Capital 0ne account got sold to Midland Funding. The balance I owe is around 7,400. I'd tried to settle with cap1, and then with NCO, but was never offered better than 50%. My goal is to settle this account but coming up with the funds is tough. Mostly though I want to avoid getting sued. Over the last week or so I've been contacted by they're lawyers, who are one state away. They're offering a 60% settlement in 2 payments, and they say I have until 6/18 (this Friday) to secure the two payments in post-dated autodrafts, one due end of June, then July.
