Can I go to jail for not showing up to court on a civil matter? I got served papers to go to court over a debt. It took almost a year from the time they served me before my actual court date since it was rescheduled. In all honestly I completely forgot about it. I had all intentions to go to try to question this debt collector. Since I've never heard of them before. But almost a month after the court date I got served a order of show cause. And the cop said I'm looking at 15 days in jail for not showing up to court.

How do i find out if the internet loans i have are legal in ohio?? I am in a real bind with these...

I am so embarrassed. I got caught up in this payday loan mess, and now I can't ger out. I can't afford this, and I don't sleep at night. How do I stop this cycle?? Who can help me? We had medical bills, and now I am in such a mess. Please-- can someone offer advice???

I attended a local 4 year college and something happened with the paper work and my tuition did not get applied to a loan. So therefore I had a bill for a full semester. I couldn't find funding anywhere not even thru my current bank who has all my other loans.

I have been reading the posts and I totally get it about the collection fees that are charged to your account once you default and its turned over to a CA. If they continue to move the loan from one CA to another, do you get NEW collection fees added each time? Also, does the interest accure on them forever? I am asking for my sister, who has been in default on her loans for a couple of years now. Cindy in Seattle.

I have gotten into the hampster wheel of payday loans---- 15 of them. I am embarrased and ashamed. Who do I turn to for help in to consolidate or close these loans??? I can not afford them anymore. can someone suggest a good program,,i was on one , but it was not the great...now i don,t have a job, and got my first collection letter from a law firm.....hopefully can get a job in a month, and get on some program.....the one settlement program i was on, owed 20000, and would end up paying 16000, 5 yrs...did not seem that good?

Ok I am about 5 months behind on 4 cc total $35,500. BOA offered settlement of $10,700. which they will break up into 4 payments. They want to debit out of my bank directly. Has anyone else done this? I don't know about giving up my bank info. This was their 1st settlement offer to us, I did call back and offer $8,500 but they said no. Please advise if you have experience with this. They also told me that it would be charged off at the end of this month. Thank you.

I have decided to settle my CC debt on my own. I'm only 2 months into the process and Citi has already offerred to settle my $13,000 balance for $9,000. Should I accept, or if I wait do you think the offer will get better?
