Family member is being sued in IA small claims court for fairly recent credit card debt from Discover Card. they have 20 days to respond and provide plea. If they plea the debt is not valid a court date is set. The debt is valid, excluding fees/interest.
Should they plea not valid and try to negotiate the debt at small claims court?
If a judgement is rendered, what can they garnish. I'm told only wages. The family member is on social security via a railroad pension. Can they garnish these wages. Family memer is also over 80 years old. Looking for advice.
