Paying off auto loan hurts credit score?

I have a car loan payment. This, along with one credit card that I always pay every month, are the only debts in my credit report. Every month my credit score goes up a few points. Must be because I am building a good payment history with the car loan and credit card. So what happens if I pay off the car loan now? how will it affect my credit score? I just ingerited some money and I want to pay off this bill but I am worried how it will affect my credit score!

Settlement letter

I bought a house last year in Orange County Calif. As part of the Escrow requirements I had two old collection accounts that I needed to take care of. The first was an old phone bill and I negotiated it to a lower price and settled it. The Second was an old Auto loan that was repossessed along time ago. On my the credit report it reported a balance of 3797.00 So I had secured this much in the escrow account. The loan was originally with ONYX but was sold to Capitol One Auto.

DIY - Success Story!

Hi Everyone! Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this forum. I wouldn't have been able to settle my credit cards if it weren't for this place. For all of you guys who are debating whether to use a settlement company or to do it yourself, I would say do it yourself! As long as you pick up the phone calls when the cc companies call and you're courteous to them, they're courteous to you as well.

Forex Automoney ??

So..for several years I've been pretty active in the 'regular' stock market.. and I'm not going to say by any means I've mastered the game.. but I'm certainely no novice. In any event, lately I've decided I would like to begin to expand my horizons trying new things and exploring different trade markets. So, over the past few weeks now I've been looking into and learning about this whole FOREX market. And personally, at least to me, the FOREX market is by far the most complicated and confusing. And to my understanding, also potentially the most risky. Now, as for my question...

Hi all -- everyone has been so great helping me get out of that payday loan mess I got myself into. (thank goodness for that) but now I have been on another trek.. Paying everything on my credit report, disputing, sending letters, etc. Of which I started about 1 month ago even before I was completely done with those payday loans. I have some questions regarding my credit report: On one for example, #1 *First Bank Of Delaware* (CC) and it says: balance = $0.00 past due = $0.00 Credit limit = $300.00 Account Status = Charge Off So, as far as this entry what do I do with this?

Question for Soaplady

Got another question for ya soaplady. I know you've said for federal loans that after 25 years the remaining balance is 'forgiven'. I was in repayment for 3 years before going back to school and now my loans are in deferrment again. After I finish school, I plan on consolidating my federal loans and getting on ICR because I am paying huge amounts every month for my private loans. Do those previous 3 years of repayments count towards the 25 years or does the clock reset because i'm currently in deferrment?

counter offer to collection agency

hi there I have a question regarding making a counter offer to collection agency. They said the original balance was $17,000 and they are offering $12,000 settlement. I'm about send them a counter offer letter. Due to my health issue, I want to resolve as quickly as possible. So I'd like to offer a lump sum of money. but I only have very limited amount. i don't want to jeorpadize this negotiation process by offering too little. ( I have some amount that I have in my mind that I can pay tomorrow..but I'm afraid to offer...it's so low) what would be a reasonable offer????
