Opt out of the rate increase

17 years 1 month ago
Has anyone read about this? If you have a credit card and they are increasing your interest rate because you have reached your credit limit, apparently there is an option to "Opt out of the rate increase". I read an article at the link below about this but I'm not sure I quite understand the benefits of it.

Stop Calls and Harassment

Subject: Course of Action against Palisades Collection: In February, Palisades Collection started calling me every day except weekends. I filed complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) about it. The FTC handles complaints from the Federal Communications Commission because they are one in the same now. If you have a complaint about calls from Palisades, contact the FTC online and file a complaint. Also, if you do call Palisades, don’t give them your social security number. Chances are they only have the last four digits.

Sallie Mae private loans

17 years 1 month ago
I have a good amount of private consolidated loans with Sallie Mae. My monthly payment is ridiculous and I take full responsibility for it. I have no other debt but have 200k in private loans and my credit is great. The problem is I can't reconsolidate because my debt to income ratio wouldn't allow it and really wonder how the heck Sallie Mae approved me. I have talked to a lawyer and he thinks a chapter 13 would atleast buy me some time to where I could be making more money in 5 years.

loan shop online

17 years 1 month ago
The loan shop online keeps e-mailing and calling me claiming that I owe them money. I have had a loan with them in the past (7/07); however, I do not believe I owe them what they say I do. I have asked them to send me, in writing, details on the amount of the original loan, any payments made, fees etc, to show how they are getting to the amount they are claiming. This has been going on for more than 8 months. They keep asking me to send them a notarized release in order for them to send me personal information. They will not say what is suppossed to be included in the release or anything.

Like many people here I too got a phone call from Mr. Sargent demanding full payment of a payday loan otherwise I would be served Court papers and be charged with fraud. What I want to know is: this debt originated in Nova Scotia but now I live in Ontario. Can they even collect on an out-of-province debt? Also, if they actually proceed - could I nip this in the bud by making a partial payment to the creditor? I'm documenting all correspondence since I'm told threats of criminal prosecution as a means to collect on a debt is actually extortion. Thanks!
