so do i have to be late on payments for a cc to settle with me?

When you get sued in court for a debt and the collection agency says that they bought the debt and own it (assignee owner), are you allowed by law to know exactly how much that they bought the debt for? (reasonable and valuable consideration) I think this is a very good and important question here.

Can someone please tell me,...when you settle your account with a collection agency (even get a settled in full letter from them) why they turn around and sell the remaining balance to another collection agency?! I really just want to know why or how legally they can do this? What are we supposed to do to prevent this from happening? Are we, as citizens that are willing to pay our debts (even pay way more than what should be due) supposed to suffer like this?! I guess I'll just have to wait around untill I get sued for the same debt again!?

Because i just signed up on this site :D On Tuesday, I went to Wells Fargo and tried to open the College Checking account but unable to get approve due to my credit history. However, they let me open the account which is called Opportunity Package (second chance account), they gave me all the paperwork and helped me to deposit $100 in the account. Then today, I received a letter from Wells Fargo said that they will be closed my account because of the information from ChexSystem.

If I make a payment to a creditor once they have sent the debt to a collection agency but the creditor cashes my check, is my debt discharged? I paid Dr. Cash almost $1000 that they said I owed, they cashed the check, but now their collection agency wants $2000 to settle the debt - through phone and letter. Details: I missed a payment to Dr. Cash payday advance and contacted them at the same time that I would have the money to pay them in a couple weeks.

I was wondering, this sounds somewhat crazy, but was wondering if anyone here has every let the online payday lenders debit your account for the full amount and then just deal with the bank at that point. Of course if I did something like this I would not have enough money in my account to cover the loans. Just was wondering if anyone has done this and how it went?
