how far back can old bills be collected on?

I have a delinquent car loan that has recently been charged off. A 3rd party was trying to repossess the vehicle but where unsuccessful in doing so. The car is still in my possession. I was issued a summons by the original creditor for the principal for the vehicle or for the vehicle to given back to the original creditor.

Is there one place with an organized list?

I have $40k in credit cards and need advice on what to do. apr on the cards is an average of 10% so it's not that bad. When I signed up for this service it says you are charged 15% of your debt for their service. I believe the Consumer Credit Counsling Service is free so why should I use this service? Is a settlement program a better option where an attorney will work to reduce my debt? I am very concerned about ruining my credit because although I have high debt I have good credit and always pay on time.

I have a question about the effect of canceling paid-off credit cards. I have 3 (and only these 3) credit cards - Citibank, Capital One, and GM Card. They are all paid off - yea! So now I have zero credit card debt. I have considered canceling the Capital One and the GM Card and keeping just the Citibank CC (I like how Citibank enables one to create 'virtual account numbers' for web purchases). However, I have heard that canceling credit cards has a negative effect on the credit score, because it lowers your total credit ceiling. Is this true? Please advise!

I am using Oakview Law for debt settlement. I had some concerns in the past with them. When I first signed up I authorized a $900.00 payment to them on 03/09/08 which was a monday. They didn't take payment until the next Monday. I was led to believe that the power of attorney was sent quickly after payment. They never sent the power of attorney until april 2, 2008 almost a month after payment was allowed. Now another payment is due and they were supposed to take it on april 14, 2008 now if they take it monday the 28th that will be 2 weeks since they were supposed to take it.

Hey all- I was talking with a friend at work about financial problems, and my co-worker stated that one of the things she was going to do with her tax rebate check was "catch up on her car payment" because she was two months behind. I asked her if she meant she hadn't paid for 2 whole months, and she said no, her monthly payment is $320, but she has only paid $100 the past two months that it has been due.
