You should never deal with a collection agency on the phone: Avoid telephonic conversations with the collection agencies while negotiating your debts. Get everything in writing: Never expect a collection agency to meet an agreement that was made verbally. Maintain good records: Keep a record of every written communication you have with the CA. Send letters via certified mail with a RRR. Keep a copy of every letter you send them.

I need a loan bad. I have really really bad credit. I have online payday loans and storefront payday loans, plus american general loan, and another finance compnay. I gotinto this mess cause my husband was on workmans comp last summer, and I was trying to pay the bills. PLEASE HELP!

Well our account was turned over to a lawyer and I had payment arrangements with them, but only a temp. arrangement for 3 months. Well I made the last of those payments and had to set up a new arrangement. So I called the lawyer today and our balance there is still $719.36. I wanted to still try and make the $80 a month payment and he came back with a counter offer of a settlement of $360 and I have until April 15th to pay it. hmmmm, what to do, what to do lol. I am pulling in the belt and going to make it a little tight for 2 weeks, but I took the offer :) I am saving $359.36.

Hey everyone. Well, my wife and I are going to be filing chapter 7 bankruptcy. My question is what about the illegal payday loan that I still have. I've made a couple of payments but still owe $600.00 which is what I originally borrowed. What do I do when I file? I'm going to put them down as one of my creditors but will they follow the law or continue their tactics. My lawyer has told us to refer the creditors who call to him and they will leave us alone but does that apply to the payday loan company. The PDL is PaydayYes. Thanks, Ed.

i have bad credit and I owe a bank can you still help? I just want my life to be better now that I have a daughter. I want her life to be as good as possible.

A girlfriend and I had a joint credit card account (0% for life of loan if paid on time) but I was the primary name on the account. She was the only one that ever used the account (2 balance transfers and a hotel charge.) I did it to help her out of debt since it was at 0%. She always paid on time and then she defaulted, like they hoped, and the interest jumped to over 30%. Now she refuses to pay the bill or even talk to me. Do I just chalk this $10,000 and a credit hit up to poor judgement on my part or can I get her to pay me back?

If I owe Discover Card $2540, will they sue me? I was doing a payment plan WAY out of my budget and the collection company wouldn't work with me so I canceled my payments. I guess the debt is back to Discover since they posted that I owe them $2540. I've paid $500 of the original debt to date.

My firs step was to close my bank account and then I am sending letters to them but the letters are not being accepted. What is my next step. help Marty2
