Negotiating a settlement to 10% of debt owed

18 years 1 month ago
I've heard that banks are often willing to accept 10 cents on the dollar as opposed to nothing when someone is facing bankruptcy. Is this true? And how do you negotiate a settlement like that on your own?

Suggestions on where to start repairing credit?

18 years 1 month ago
Hi, I'm new here and looking for advice. I'm 21 and have got myself into a bit of mess with credit cards. I looked at my credit report tonight to see just how bad it was I have 8605 worth of charges off on my report. I would like to start repairing credit but right now but I don't have much money to work with. I had 3 major cards (citi, chase,&capital one) and the others were store cards(goody's,buckle, old navy,Dillard's,American eagle, and a few more I can't remember right now). Just looking for suggestions on what I can do to start repairing my credit?

Has anyone had any dealing with discount advances? If so do you have an address or email address for them all I can find is phones numbers I would rather have something in writing than talking to them. Also when trying to work out something with them can I ask them to consider the amount I have overpaid them on previous loans? I got a loan in Dec for 240 and have pd 0 on it due to closing my checking account.

How do they know-- is it legal?

I have been recieving calls from asset acceptance llc for a few months now, on a near daily basis, which I let go to answering machine. Sometimes they leave a message requesting I call back, other times they hang up. Today I recieved a letter claiming that this debt is from a department store credit card I had in 1995-96. Admittedly, I do believe that this credit card debt was never paid.

I received a letter in the mail stating that I owe $528.73 because of an accident I was in back in the summer of 2007. The vehicle I hit was a Pen Waste Garbage truck. The driver claimed chest pains and went to the hospital for MRI's. He came out with not even a bruise. When I attended the court hearing his boss told me that he was fired because he was a bull-crapper. I am now being fined the above amount for the drivers hospital bills. I was insured and the insurance company is called Able Insurance located on 127 West Ave. Lockport, NY 14094 at the time. There number is (716)434-2026.

I think it is a good idea to monitor your credit report to make sure that no one else is trying to be you. You probably are all well aware of the fact that you can get a free copy of your report once a year. It seems that I have been hearing these horror stories on the news more and more.

Thank You

I have read so much on here about how people are getting ripped off by these payday loan companies. I want to take the time to thank all of your for sharing your stories so that the rest of us learn from you and don’t go down the same road. I feel for each and everyone of one you that ended up in this situation, Life is hard enough with out the extra added stress. It is good that you have a place like this to come too and discuss it. Then you find out that you are not alone and can share common problems and resolutions to the problems. Again, thank you for sharing your stories.
